She said "enough is enough" when a customer asked to try one of the chocolates after the lady that was with him had tried one. They spent over 100 euros in chocolate. Customer service law, YOU TREAT YOUR PAYING CUSTOMER WELL. In the US, that woman would have been fired. I have sent so many people there to buy chocolates and I always get the same feedback: "amazing chocolate, horrible service". I will NEVER send anyone there again. Unfortunately, this is just another one of those instances that remind us that people are losing their humanity, their kindness, and their fairness. Please, just treat your customers better.

While you can find very typical Belgian flavors represented here --such as one filled with speculoos -- my boyfriend and I were delighted to find some very curious combinations such as caramel and banana, violet, and a Leffe (Belgian beer) flavored one too! Both times, we were greeted at the door with chocolates to try and met with the owner and chocolatier. Many chocolate places sell by the piece, but they sell by the weight. We found that our Euro stretched for quite a bit and were able to take a good selection home! While one can find Leonidas, Nauhaus, and Godiva in Leuven as well, it was nice to taste and take home chocolates one cannot find outside of Leuven.

I ended up picking up a few of their pre-packaged truffle assortments and also got a few individual truffles for me to eat. One of the clear case boxes unfortunately got severely squished in my suitcase, so I actually ended up eating them since they were not in a presentable state haha. Standouts of the ones I tried have to include passion fruit and macadamia. Yuzu is also high up there too. I think these were just more interesting flavors and more preferable to my own tastes. They're a solid choice for nice chocolate. Was my mind blown away? Not really, but the chocolates are high quality, handmade, crafted well, and certainly a LOT cheaper than what you can get in the US. My favorites were very delicious, and I would get them again or ask someone to bring them back if the opportunity ever presented itself.

In the Grand Place these chocolate shoppes were lined up almost next to each other. Neuhaus was the first and ultimately the finalist. I appreciated the welcome as I came in, an overview of the history as I drooled over the well stocked cases. Of course there were too many flavors and types to pick from. Overall my taste buds did its job and the flavor combos, the snap of the chocolate and taste won me over to Neuhaus. I ended up customizing the boxes according to the choices dictated by family back home which covered pralines with caramel, yuzu, coffee, speculoos, etc. In the end buying direct avoided tariffs and what I saved went to more pralines but the tradeoff was a fuller luggage. Neuhaus had a frequent buyer program that I signed up for. Not sure how much I'll make use of it.

Part of Rudolf Braun, this delectable Manneken Pis themed chocolate shop is located across from the…read morefamous statue. Manneken Pis is a famous sculpture of a boy peeing into a fountain. The idea is meant to showcase the humor of Brussels. The fountain sculpture was created in 1619 by Jerome Duquesnoy and it still stands today. The shop carries a variety of peeing boy chocolates as well as other fine candies. They've got truffles, bon-bons and more. We bought quite a few Manneken Pis chocolates to take home to friends and family. They were all well received not just because of the fun but because of the fine Belgian chocolate used to make the creations.
