Most discussion boards are full of people with very strong opinions. ("The only three surgeons I trust in Turkey are A, B, and C. You'd be crazy to go to D!") What are these reviews based on? Most people have between 0 and 2 hair transplants in their lives, so how could a reviewer form an opinion about so many clinics? My guess is that many clinics hire people to write those posts. Maybe there are also some industry experts offering reviews based on years of professional experience. In the end, I found that price almost perfectly correlated with reviews. I wanted FUE with about 3k follicles. There were lots of options, mostly in Turkey, that cost a few thousand dollars. However, as far as I could tell, these were all "hair mills" employing people with no formal credentials. It may be that they get perfectly good results, but I decided it wasn't worth the risk. If I only had a few thousand dollars to spend, I might give it a try. I don't think hair mills are killing anyone. The worst-case scenario is that your transplant fails or looks awful, in which case you'd just shave your head, which is also your best option if you don't get any work done. I couldn't find any clinics with credentialed professionals that charged less than about 80% of the DiStefano price. At that point, airfare could easily cancel out the cost savings. And that's assuming you don't need to fly back again a few months later to fix any problems. For that matter, if something went very wrong, I'd much rather be near a hospital in my insurance network. The DiStefano sales person was very upfront about the limitations of a hair transplant. I even had to sign a paper saying I understood I would not be getting my teenage hair back. I don't think most people considering a hair transplant understand what it can and cannot do. I was replacing roughly 9k lost follicles on the top of my head with about 3k follicles from the back of my head. A transplant is for people with receding hairlines and/or bald spots. It's less helpful for thinning hair. The result of a successful hair transplant is having thinly dispersed follicles covering your whole scalp. It restores your hairline and fills in any bald spots. You'll still look pretty bald under fluorescent lights in an office. You have two options. One is to buzz your hair every few days. It's very hard to notice differences in density with very short hair. As soon as your hair grows to be about ¼" long, the difference in density becomes obvious. The other option is to grow your hair to be a few inches, so you have enough volume to create the illusion of density. I don't part my hair, because the line of the part makes it very obvious that I don't have density. I comb my hair straight back. Then it looks like my hair is thinning only at the front. I'm considering another transplant just at the front to complete the illusion. All those "experts" on the discussion boards couldn't agree on which parts of the transplant the doctor must do. They almost all agreed that a credentialed doctor was essential, and most agreed that nurses or techs could do a lot of the work. But they couldn't agree on whether the doctor should punch the holes and do the extractions, or whether the doctor should place the follicles in the holes. At DiStefano, Bonnie and Beth were in the room with me for every minute of both days. The doctor did come in a few times. I imagine he would have been more involved if something had gone wrong or if I had a difficult case. I'm completely happy with their work. My recovery was rougher than I expected. My head swole up like a melon. This is not common, but be aware it is possible. I recommend planning a vacation right after your procedure. You can wear a loose-fitting hat immediately (and should wear it any time you are outside, for sun protection). I spent two weeks as a funny-looking tourist. By the time I returned to work, it just looked like I had shaved my head. I buzzed my hair every few days for the next six months, at which point I grew it out. DiStefano hasn't tried to sell me anything else, including at my (free) six-month check-in. They've been kind and honest throughout the entire process. If I decide to get a touch-up, I will go to DiStefano again.

I feel that our scalp health is something easily looked over and I was looking forward to treating myself to this service. First, I went over some of my concerns with my specialist and she took photos of my scalp to diagnose any issues. This area is where I deducted a star because a lot of information was being discussed and it was hard to keep track of it all. She gave me a lot of tips and recommendations and I asked if she would be able to write them down for me, but she said they would be in my file. However the file did not really include anything other than the service I was given and recommended products, but not any of the several actions she recommended a incorporate into my routine. I felt this information was a part of the steep price so I would have appreciated being able to have a chance to write it down. After this portion, we went to the spa where I received a head, neck and shoulder massage along with an array of scalp treatments. This lasted over an hour and was incredibly relaxing and worth the money alone. I did not feel it was rushed, she really look her time with each step. After this, she took another round of photos, followed by 5 minutes of red light therapy and some light blow drying. Overall I really enjoyed my experience and while I wont be going the recommended once a month due to price, I will definitely do it once in a while.

Check this out though: made another appointment at Regeneris Medical & New England hair restoration, told them what happened and they were genuinely appalled by it. This place does the same "A-cell" technology that Leonard uses and they told that they straight up LIED to me, as there is no "short shelf life" to it (it was one of their excuses as to why it needed to be rescheduled and I lost my deposit, this new place doesn't even take a deposit! Plus, the very nice man at this place explained that is NOT true as the "A-cell" tech is added right before it needs to be used so there's no issues there, not only that but they tried to NOT push me into PRP and a 3k light cap, instead, simply a pill for now as it seemed like the best course of action as opposed to making me spending 6 grand in a year and instead only spent less than 100 bucks for 6 months of a prescription that would help all the same while the guy at Leonard hair tried to push the most expensive thing possible. Go to this New England hair and regeneris as opposed to these scam artists, it's a better facility and they also have more staff in place to help. They will give you honest opinions, not push you into stuff you don't need, don't require a deposit and they treat you much better.
