Thérapie constantly pestered me for a review, so here it is. I would absolutely not recommend…read moreThérapie Clinic to anyone after my experience with laser hair removal at their Liverpool One clinic.
I started my laser hair removal journey in 2024 and everything was going well until spring of this year, when my therapist left and I was given a new therapist, Abby.
Ahead of my first appointment with Abby, I completed the consent form confirming that I had not had any recent sun exposure. At the appointment, Abby asked me again if I had had any recent sun exposure and I said no, because that was the truth. I am incredibly cautious about sun exposure after losing a family friend to skin cancer.
Abby told me my skin looked burnt and that she would be adjusting my settings accordingly, despite me repeatedly assuring her that I had not been in the sun and was not burnt. She proceeded with the treatment on reduced settings. I left feeling annoyed because the lower settings made the treatment less effective and therefore felt like a waste of my time and money, but I hoped my next appointment would be better.
Unfortunately, it wasn't. The same thing happened again. Abby asked whether I had had any recent sun exposure, I said no, and once again I felt that she didn't believe me. This time, however, she changed my settings without telling me. I suspected they had been reduced because the treatment felt noticeably different from usual. I was too anxious to question it during the appointment because I found Abby very abrupt, but when I later obtained my treatment records, they confirmed that my settings had indeed been reduced without my knowledge.
When I raised this with Thérapie, they explicitly told me that they do not have to disclose changes in treatment settings to their clients.
At that point, I no longer felt comfortable continuing my treatment with Thérapie. I had lost confidence in receiving the treatment I was paying for and felt intimidated by the way I had been treated.
I had paid upfront for a course of 10 sessions and had five remaining. I requested a refund for those five unused sessions, which Thérapie refused under their "no refunds" policy. They suggested I try another therapist or travel to another clinic, with the next closest clinic being over 30 miles away in Manchester. By this point, however, my trust in Thérapie as a company had been lost.
I continued pursuing my complaint but was repeatedly passed from one person to another. Eventually, the Liverpool clinic told me they would no longer communicate with me, despite my complaint remaining unresolved and no refund being issued. I contacted Thérapie's support team instead, only to reach a third-party call centre who told me I needed to speak to the Liverpool clinic, the same clinic that was refusing to communicate with me.
In the end, I submitted a Subject Access Request under Article 15 of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 to obtain the personal data Thérapie held about me, and disputed the payment with my credit card provider.
Thérapie contested the dispute, but ultimately my credit card provider sided with me and refunded me for all five unused sessions. I think that speaks volumes.
I'm disgusted by the way I was treated by Thérapie, both during my laser hair removal treatment and while trying to obtain a refund for services I had not received. I do not believe it is acceptable to make changes to someone's treatment without informing them.
And if you're trying to obtain a refund from Thérapie, don't assume that their "no refunds" policy is the end of the matter. Consider submitting a Subject Access Request to obtain your records and, if you paid by credit card, speaking to your card provider about the options available to you.
