Food: The carne asada burrito was like the ones I love in California, no rice or beans, just tender carne asada with nice creamy guacamole and a little salsa fresca. The meat was properly salted and with no gristle. The adobada taco was equally delightful, a single corn tortilla coated with guacamole, salsa fresca, and heavily-loaded with wonderfully-spiced pieces of pork. This is the most flavorful adobada i've found in the midwest, so if you've never tried it, this would be the place to give it a try! I've been going to Renee's off and on since they first opened back between 2000-2002. It's the perfect hangover food for those ungodly early morning hours, better than McDonalds, Dennys or IHOP. My favorite item is the Colorado burrito. The beef can be a bit tough and chewy, and I personally don't like the large volume of beef in it. So I always do something taboo. I take it home, unroll it, collect all the meat, throw out the toughest parts, then mince the rest up pretty finely. I'll then combine the beef back with the rest of the burrito filling, skillet fry it for a couple minutes. Roll it back up in the flour tortilla, and skillet fry the burrito on each side for about 30 seconds. This may seem odd, but it takes any issues the Colorado burrito has, and turns it from a 7/10 to a 10/10. Very much worth 10 minutes of my time. read more

I like to go for the breakfast burritos. Now this big ol' boys and gonna make your toes curl, but they are definitely worth the money. They come with a red and a green sauce and I like to mix them like it's Christmas morning. But like I said they are big ol' boys so be prepared to party. I eat em in one setting because like my wife likes to say I just don't know when to quit. But if you have self control you could probably make two meals out of them. I love this place! I probably should have tried more menu items after eating here a million times, but I love my "usual" so much, I just keep ordering it. I get the Supreme Quesadilla and the Carnitas Burrito and make 2-3 meals out of it. My favorite thing about this place is the flour tortillas...they are thin, huge and amazing! What is there to say about Rene's? My dear Rene's. I always give a dumbfounded look when someone tells me they have never been to nor heard of my little diamond on the rough.I first discovered Rene's years ago, when I live just across the highway. Like many, I started with the Colorado, a burrito of cane asada and copious amounts of cheese. Literally the size of your forearm, it was the perfect end to a night of drinking and debauchery. Eventually I grew to try the super nachos (still a favorite of mine), the adobado tacos (to die for), and the tamales (mouthwatering). No longer do I only visit in the shadows of night. Its nice to go when there aren't droves of drunk people heading home from the bars. Make sure you try the breakfast choices too. The bacon - egg burrito pretty fulfilling too. They are open 24/7 (less Christmas), so you have no excuse not to go. You're welcome. read more

Driving past Rene's all the years gave me the impression they were a fast food place. Probably because it says so on their sign. But it's not the fast food Mexican like Taco Pronto or Taco Shop or Taco Bell; it's just a 24/7 taqueria, which are inherently quick through design. Upon opening my takeout container, I was surprised to see my adovada, carne asada, and carnitas tacos a bit more colorful than I was expecting thanks to hefty helpings of pico de gallo and guacamole smeared between each tortilla. Better yet, all of the meat got real nice and comfortable with the grill. My al pastor meat* was very nicely browned on their sides, as were the carnitas and asada. Flavors were deep, rich, and punchy for all except the carne asada, which was a little bland and a little chewy. With as much food as was packed into each of those tortillas, it's easy to see why this is such a popular late night drunk location. *I know I said I ordered adovada, but given the final product, the lack of an al pastor item on the menu, and the relative difficulty with finding carne adovada in Wichita, I think it's just a difference in naming conventions. Something that could be applied to a lot of Mexican restaurants around here, I bet, since I don't see most of them roasting anything on a spit in the classic al pastor style. I equate Rene's as the west side's version of Alejandro's and maybe in the same category of 24/7 Mexican as Abelardo's, but Rene's blows them both out of the water. read more

Great food. Big tacos for two bucks each. The adobado tacos are incredible with so much flavor. They made me visit two days in a row. The burritos are equally great. I loved the salsa bar. It reminded me of a taqueria I used to frequent in San Antonio a few years ago. The service can be hit or miss depending on who's behind the counter. My Husband had eaten here with a guy from work and came home raving about their tacos. We decided to go and get a variety of their items to bring home and make our own Margaritas. We got 2 Carne Asada Tacos, 2 Carnitas Tacos, 2 Tamales, their # 12 Relleno Plate, 1 'Colorado' Burrito Smothered (because so many Reviewers had recommended it) and a Side Order of their 'Hot & Spicy' Carrots. We figured we could eat both Lunch & Dinner off of this variety. Hubby picked out a Movie and made Margaritas, while I selected a variety to test (and made Puppy plates). Popped open those 'Take Home' Boxes and I picked a Carnitas Taco, one of the Rellenos, about 1/6th of the Burrito and a Tablespoon of their Refried Beans that came with the Relleno Plate. Figured that we give me a good idea of what to order next time. I passed on the Tamales because they are more my Husband's thing AND they looked dried out. The Carnitas was Awesome! I also thought the Relleno was pretty good too!! I liked the texture of their beans. My few first bites of the Burrito I liked and then hit a pile of french fried potatoes. Hubby said that the Tamale was very dried out and that he wouldn't order them again. He liked the Burrito and got another slice of it for about 1/3 total. He LOVED the Carnitas Taco. The 'Hot & Spicy' Carrots weren't in our order and it was too far to try and retrieve. So we had 2 Carne Asada Tacos, 1 Relleno and it's remaining Rice & Beans, about bout 1/3 of a Burrito left for dinner. And a Tamale (that no one wanted). The reasons that I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 -- parking is a bit of a challenge (although they have a 'Drive-Thru'), the missing Carrots (which I was really looking forward to) and the Tamales. I would definitely go back. I intend to order their Carnitas Burrito 'Smothered' (Green Chile Sauce & Cheese) and probably a Side Order of Beans -- and I will attempt to get those Carrots again :) read more

After several years of driving by and wondering, I finally stopped in and was greatly underwhelmed. I ordered the #2 combo (taco and enchilada) along with a side of guac and sour cream. The rice was fine and the beans were okay, but bland. The taco shell was the best part of the meal while the meat itself was just all right. My disappointment mostly stemmed from the absurdly runny sour cream, guac and salsas. I seriously could have drank them. The two salsas I picked up were basically tasteless except for the burning sensation they produced on my tongue. read more

Ordered a Colorado burrito with extra sour cream, my go to, drive 20 minutes all the way home just to find out it had no sour cream, which is $1.50 up charge, and almost no steak either.
