Located on Pearse Rd, which cuts through the city centre, the Pearse Lodge is about a 10-minute walk south of town. The size of the house is deceiving from its facade. What you'll find inside is an artfully-decorated, comfortable, bright and peaceful B&B run by a lovely couple named Mary and Kieron. They, with their daughter (their son is in university), live in the house as well, but this part is sectioned off from the B&B. Mary greeted us immediately and was full of passionate yet practical chatter, spouting off ideas and suggestions for Sligo without being pushy or overbearing. She had menus and maps and a really charming, charismatic way about her as she described that Sligo was a "food and music" town. Her enthusiasm for living in Sligo was obvious.
Our room was, in a word, awesome. Large, bright, with a sitting area complete with a cappucino machine, wine cooler, full-length mirror, ipod dock. I also appreciated her design sense. The place could have been an art gallery or a boutique hotel - swanky but comfortable with some flavors of art nouveau. It had the right feng shui, and that's not easy. The common areas were lovely and our breakfast in the morning was fantastic -- made-from-scratch french toast with honey and homemade pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup.
It's not often you'll find a B&B with friendly-but-not-overbearing proprietors, creative and tasteful decor, large rooms with bonus amenities, fabulous home made breakfasts and a short walk to town, all for 82 euros a night. Stay here in Sligo!
