I traveled from Boston for a quick getaway. This renaissance hotel wasn't like others I'd stayed at prior to. For one, it appeared pretty dated. Additionally, the shower was clogged (gross). Someone was sent to fix it which took a little bit and ran into our dinner plans since we needed to get ready. It also begged the question of whether the shower was cleaned since the housekeeper should have noticed the backed up water. In any event, the staff was nice but Im not inclined to recommend this location or give it another chance with my coins. read more

This is one of my favorite kinds of hotel. They've taken what is clearly a historic, awesome old building and they've converted and updated into a comfortable, modern place to stay. A renaissance, indeed. They have the important things down: the bed is comfortable, the shower pressure is good, the towels are soft, the products are solid. The fitness center is pretty good. Overall, it was clean, and spacious, and the people I dealt with were friendly and helpful. There are a few oddities, like the fact that the closet has another door that opens into the bathroom and the Trump rally happening a block away (not affiliated with the hotel), but those are overshadowed by an amazing view of the Capitol building (through some pillars), and an excellent location a block or two from the train station. A gorgeous, historic, and classy mason building converted into a hotel. It was built in 1927 but construction was put on hold due to the Wall Street Crash and start of the World War II. The building was eventually fixed and opened in 2007 as a hotel. The Greek Revival architecture was grand and magnificent; right next door, a wonderous view of the Rhode Island State House. There was only valet parking available, which was $40 a night. The lobby was spacious and the restaurant, The Public Kitchen and Bar is attached to it. The Veterans Memorial Auditorium is connected to the hote also; events such as comedy shows takes place there. There's a fitness/business center and 10,000 sq. ft. meeting space. We stayed on the 8th floor. The room was spacious and clean; we had slightly obstructed views of the state house, we still saw a bit of the landmark. There was a balcony with large railings outside of our window, but it's not accessible. It had a flat screen TV, mini fridge, and coffee machine. The bed was comfy and the pillows were down feather so it was too flat for my liking. There was a laundry bag for our dirty clothes. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of counter space. There was a hand towel rack and plenty of towels; this may mean nothing to most people, but the little details does matter! The first night was nice and quiet but the second night, the people next door were partying from 2:30 am to 4:00 am (loud and rude). I get you're having fun but no need to be screaming the entire time; thankfully my kids stayed asleep during that timeframe. The hotel was in a central location and we were able to walk everywhere; Providence Place Mall, Thayer St., North and South Main St., the Pedestrian Bridge, and Wickenden St. to name a few. Overall, we had a good experience at the hotel and would definitely stay there again! We stayed at the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel after Aloft overbooked us, and it turned out to be quite pleasant. The building itself is historic and full of character--it used to be a Masonic Temple and still has that grand, old-world charm from the outside. Inside, the lobby is elegant and welcoming, with high ceilings and rich details that make it feel special. The location is perfect too, right across from the State House and within walking distance to downtown spots. Check-in was fast and the guest services person was extremely pleasant, and gave us complimentary breakfast tickets, which was a super nice touch. Our room was clean and quiet, but the real highlight was the bed--so soft, plush, and incredibly comfortable. It made us want to sleep in all morning. The room had a nice vibe overall and felt like a peaceful place to crash after a very long day. The only downside was the water in the shower--it kept switching from cold to burning hot without warning, and I almost burned my shoulders. Also, the $40 parking fee felt a bit high. But overall, the service, comfort, and unique atmosphere made it a memorable stay. I would come back as long as the shower temperature was fixed. read more

This elegant transformation of a former Masonic temple was a real surprise since the photos on Expedia looked as if taken at a Holiday Inn. While the rooms are understated, they are just the right size, and everything seemed new and of good quality. (The bathroom hardware is especially beautiful.) The room was completely quiet, and, unexpectedly, the pillows were just right--one firm and the other soft and downy. The masonic theme, beginning with two regal thrones in the lobby, as smarly carried throughout the corridors and rooms. read more

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Providence. My only issue, you must valet your car during your stay. I'm not a fan of anyone driving my car. If you don't know how to drive a Tesla, practicing on my car is no bueno. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful. From the elegant lobby to the freshly updated rooms, everything during my stay was top notch. Funny story, In the elevator I saw a few nerds hosting a political party for Gov Dan McKee. I crashed the party, had the bartender pour me a Makers neat and took a selfie with the mayor (?) and said four more years! As a lifetime Platinum on Marriott this is in the small minority of hotels where the rooms are bigger and nicer than they look in web site pictures. Book with confidence if you like what you see in the pics. Late 2010s renovation was very tasteful and well-done, and you can tell that housekeeping/ maintenance staff goes the extra mile to keep it very clean. Rates can spike a bit at busy peak times like beach season or university events, but otherwise great value for the dollar especially with Boston as little as a 30 minute train ride away. Only thing keeping it from a 5th star is that downtown Providence seems to have gotten a bit more dangerous and sketchy since COVID and the walking directions to downtown are not totally straightforward if you're not familiar with the city , even if you have phone map. State House views are a nice added bonus and frequently part of status upgrades read more

I stayed here for 5 nights in room 738 around the corner of the lounge. The room and bathdoom were clean, spacious, and comfortable. Beautiful hotel located in downtown Providence so I was able to walk around and explore the area. Hotel manager was very friendly at checkin, staff in the lounge not so much. I didn't feel too comfortable being there too long; I mostly grab and go some snacks and beverages. I usually skipped the breakfast at the lounge but Wednesday was a special treat. They setup an omelette station so I was able to have a decent breakfast. The best breakfast was at the hotel Kitchen and bar. The Egg Benedict and potato was so delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the valet parking because I'm not comfortable having a stranger drive the rental that's not authorized on the rental agreement. read more

Fabulous hotel downtown. It was a perfect location right across from the Amtrak station. Providence Place Mall was right down the street with lots of places to eat there. The room was ready super early, which was a plus. There was fruit infused water or coffee in the lobby everyday. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was lovely! The bathroom had marble floors which were pretty cold so bring your socks or slippers. The TV had many cable offerings and the Wi-Fi was quick. I had a beautiful view of the state capitol from room 325. I would 100% stay here again and would recommend it! read more

One of the nicest hotels in Providence (well, only stayed in this one, but seems the nicest from what I can see of the others). Located walking distance of downtown Providence and the mall, the Renaissance is located just north of downtown next to the state house. Parking is decently expensive (valet primarily) so plan for that if you're driving a car. However, valets were always quick and efficient so that's a plus. The hotel doesn't have much a lobby and seating area, but does look historic (and well updated). Also, means there's a bunch of walls instead of a wide open space. Check-in was efficient, staff was friendly, and elevators get you to your quickly enough (no one likes slow or broken elevators). Rooms themselves are decent sized, bed is very comfortable and luxurious. Unfortunately the views aren't always great (small windows). Bathroom is adequate size, and wifi didn't have any issues. Valet parking is a must and the guys are wonderful! Hotel was nice but they never meet the request for connecting rooms despite the fact that we did what they asked and called the morning of check in and were reassured we were getting connecting rooms. I stayed in the king bedroom with views of the capital building. The bed was comfortable and very luxurious. I found the room to be spacious and the bathroom was also quite nice. I didn't like that you had to use their valet or pay per hour for street parking ($32 for over night per day). The gym was large and had plenty of machines, though I wish there was a pool! Their restaurant is only open for certain hours which sucked but plenty of food in the area. I also liked that they had fruit water in the lobby which was refreshing because it was so hot the days I was in Rhode Island. Overall, a decent stay and all of the staff was friendly. read more

Our toilet got clogged and flooded our bathroom. I called service before 7 AM to let them know, and they told me they would send housekeeping. After more than 1 hour of waiting, I called them to get an ETA on housekeeping only to have them tell me housekeeping doesn't arrive until 9 AM. It would have been great to know when I originally called so that my fiancé and I could have gone back to sleep instead of waiting impatiently, fearing to fall back asleep. I am literally waiting to use the restroom while staff figures out if maintenance can help since housekeeping isn't here. What a disaster! For all the positives of the hotel, I do not recommend this place, nor will my fiancé and I ever come back here. read more

The nicer marriott property located downtown. The space looks beautiful and the rooms i've gotten both time were nice. One was a suite with a nice view of the RI state house. They have a lounge, but its closed on weekends which seems to be the norm at some marriott properties. Parking is valet and they say theres self-parking, but not clear how that works unless you ask. Not a big deal for short stay, but if you are staying a few nights, take that into consideration for your budget, its $32 a day. Staff is friendly and rooms are clean and spacious. If you find a good rate for this one, i would pick it over the other nearby marriott properties! read more

When I was in my early 20s, I used to think that the Holiday Inn was the greatest hotel I could stay in. After some years went by and I had a bit more cash to burn, I invested in the Marriott rewards program. Next thing I knew, I could search for places to stay at a reduced government rate (ya know....so that I wouldn't go COMPLETELY broke). And that's how I came across this place. While not every Marriott establishment is created equal (trust me, I've stayed at some pretty bad ones), Renaissance in Providence shows you how other Marriotts should do it. From an on-ground restaurant, to stellar room service, to an immaculate view comparable to nothing short of Caesar's palace...this place is firing on pretty much all cylinders. But, as with all things, they aren't without their flaws (though I promise you, they are minor). The room: clean, immaculate, stellar, and comfy. Those are the words I'd use to describe it. While it was bizarre there was no microwave in sight, I didn't mind that much since I'm not normally a fan of holding onto too many leftovers whilst on vacation. The point of a vacation when it comes to eating...is to sample as many of the local restaurants as possible. And on my vacations, I'd rather eat fresh than two day old leftovers. The bathroom: HUGE! I mean...big enough to get your freak on in! One odd thing I saw was how the closet has a second door that opens directly into the bathroom. And there were no locks on either side. I guess they just assumed this was a couple's suite (granted, I requested two queen size beds). Room service: this was honestly the first time I've ever had the opportunity to order food to have delivered directly to my door. Not only was the service extremely easy to order from, but they are fast as hell, too! I adored the presentation of everything on the tray and seriously felt as if I was treated like royalty. I felt as if I should have answered the door in a fine robe or something. Oh, and the food was exquisite, too. Check-in/check-out: I mean, it DID surprise me a bit that despite checking in via the app, I still needed to come in to claim my very plastic magnetic key and not get a digital one via mobile. I also had to check out the same way. At least they don't automatically hand you a bill print out unless you ask for one. I'd rather have mine emailed to me and not waste the paper; which they kindly did. Valet: Okay. Let me ask you guys an honest question. Whenever you hand over the keys of your car to the valet, you expect them to literally be able to drive anything, yes? Okay. So..riddle me this, Batman: how in the ever loving f*ck is it possible a company hires a valet who....CAN'T *clap* DRIVE *clap* STICK *clap*?! Yeah. That really happened. I honestly thought I was being punked when the dude walked out to the car (which was parked a mere 100 feet from the entrance for some reason, but whatevs), attempted to start it, but then did the walk of shame back towards the entrance of the hotel after only 2 minutes of inspecting the vehicle. After he sheepishly admitted to us that he never learned how to drive a stick and I was half tempted to revoke his man-card right there on the spot, we ended up retrieving our own car from the parking lot....only to find the key left in the "ON" position. He....he couldn't even START the car, you guys. I...I've never seen that happen before! To his defense, the guy looked like he was about 20 and on the verge of losing his virginity. Naturally, names have been omitted to protect the emasculated. I should note that while you COULD go sans valet, I wouldn't really recommend it. Given the location, your wallet might hate you for paying to park on the street for 'x' amount of hours instead. BTW, the aforementioned diatribe is by no means a slight against this hotel establishment, nor its employees. It was just a bit ironic. Still, I had to share the story that had my friends and I laughing for five straight days now. Vehicular faux pas aside, this hotel was as close to perfect as a place can get. This is our 4th stay at Renaissance in the past year. Best stay yet - in part because the City (and hotel) were more open. You can't beat the location - downtown, the Mall, close to freeways, lots of restaurants and just a 10 min walk to College Hill. This time we spent just a bit more for a Suite with great Capitol view! Great value! What really keeps us coming back to this hotel though is the staff. From the front desk to the restaurant and bar staff to housekeeping and valet, these folks rock and are very customer focused. read more

I came here for one night to see a standup comic that was doing a show right next door with one of my friends. We got to the hotel around 4pm and parked our car with the valet. There is only valet parking and no lot for the hotel, but the nearby lots are almost the same price anyway. The room was cute, smelled nice and was clean. It was a little small but did the trick for the one night stay. The check in process was easy and check out you were able to walk right out the door. The valet also had the car ready very quickly which was great. It is a great spot and near a lot of things downtown. Overall I'd recommend staying here while in the area. read more

We where here for the American Dance Awards and would be gone all day only to come back to our room that had not been cleaned of beds made. I am rather disappointed at the service. The hotel itself is quite nice and offers wonderful views. However, their subcontractor for parking leaves much to be desired as demonstrated by our experience and other's comments. I regret that this is negative, but lacking even acknowledgement to my correspondence (this was sent following our March stay), this is an open letter to Mr Brian Haley, Laz Parking. I do not expect a reply at this point, but hope that it will motivate the hotel to focus on this lacking area. Dear Mr Haley - *Yes, it is when someone's actions are creating unnecessary delay and risk to personal safety and property.* That's what I wanted to say. A S, a valet at the Renaissance Providence had just asked me 'Do you always talk like that when you enter a business?' We'd pulled up and saw another valet pulling an SUV out. I'd planned to pull in to allow vehicles behind me to pass. The valet pulled back in, then pulled out, then back, then seemingly picked a space and decided to move again. This was all as patrons left the hotel feet away and had to change their path. The situation was both frustrating and unsafe. My wife had already exclaimed 'oh my god' in response. Prior to my comment, I'd rolled down the window and, while watching the other valet, stated, 'what a fucking idiot' to my wife. Mr S overheard, prompting his question, which was asked near whisper after I got out. He'd later declare that it was very professional as he didn't raise his voice. Instead of giving the direct answer above, I was now confronted with concerns over how our rental car would be treated during our stay and my lack of desire to engage with a stranger about protocol matters rather than the safety one or the business at hand. I asked to escalate and Ms N I came over. She'd been leaving work. There was a prolonged conversation in the drive where we discussed alternative parking and the prior events. Feeling I had little choice, I even asked Mr S to bring the original valet over. He didn't know what was going on, so I told him, apologized and explained why I stood by my impression. Mr S was visibly upset that I'd included justification; the original valet denied anything like that had occurred until my wife stepped in. Ultimately we left the car and Ms I comped part of our stay as consideration. I was going to let this be, however, on Saturday evening we were leaving the hotel in strong winds and rain. I noted a tagged car with the moonroof tilted open. I informed the valet behind the desk. The reply? 'The owner drove it in like that.' What? It might have been different if he'd said our policy is to not operate the moonroof, but to imply that the owner, who likely parked when the weather was better, should be subject to a wet interior because they dropped it off like that? Wow. The net impression was one of an unsafe, unprofessional and uncaring business. And while the valet industry has a bad reputation as a whole the totality was worth mentioning to you. read more

As a Lifetime Platinum Elite member of the Marriott Rewards program, I have stayed at the whole gamut of properties in the Marriott franchise. I cannot recall a more dissatisfying experience in recent years!! What a series of missteps everyday by staff.....SO, buyer beware of this franchised operation!! I booked my three night stay with Steve in the sales department, a little more than two months beforehand. Boy, was I sold a bill of goods!! He told me he would honor my request to be on the Club Floor, since I would have access to the Lounge due to my Platinum Elite status. He additionally offered to place me in a "special" room, though my reservation was for a "standard" king. Since I alerted the hotel on day of arrival through the mobile app of my expected arrival time, and then circumstances caused me to arrive later, I telephoned the front desk to alert them of my delayed arrival, so that they would "save the special room" that I thought had been blocked for me. However, Dan at the front desk advised on the phone that there weren't any notes on my reservation, though he promised to place me on the Club Floor. Upon arrival at 9pm, not only were there no rooms for me on the Club 7th Floor, I was assigned a room on the 9th floor. I asked for the manager on duty, and Seda, Reception Supervisor came to the rescue, offering me a choice of two upgrades...a "Deluxe" room on the Club 7th floor overlooking the Capitol, or a two room "Junior Suite" on the 6th floor with a private staircase to the Club Lounge. I opted for the larger room for my working three day visit. Incidentally, the reception clerk who initially received me advised me that the Club lounge closed for breakfast at 11am. However, I realized at 8:50 the next morning that in fact the "hot" breakfast ends at 9am, while the "continental" cold breakfast ends at 10am. The clerk was additionally misinformed, as the lounge is 24/7, though not staffed all the time. Four unsatisfactory experiences with the club lounge at breakfast...1. Monday morning the floor leading to the private staircase was locked. When I questioned Rob, the attendant on duty, he expressed surprise, stating that it is not supposed to be locked, and commented that he'll have to start checking to make sure it's unlocked in the future. 2. The breakfast was meager.... I've had a more robust and diverse offering of breakfast items at Fairfield Inns!! 3. The scrambled eggs were hard as a rock, having sat in the warming tray for at least an hour. 4. Dirty tables and dishes piled up by the coffee service, though hardly anyone was in the room at that late hour. However, the evening service was much improved, as Adam had a beautifully presented array of cheeses, crackers, vegetables and crudites, and hot items. The next morning I went up to the Club Lounge for breakfast, and what do you know, the door was locked again!!! I took the elevator back up to 7 again, and lo and behold, there was a sign on the door advising that the Lounge was closed for a staff meeting!!! Apparently, staff has priority over guests in Club Lounge, and not notifying hotel guests are further examples of the thoughtlessness management exhibits. I immediately went down to the front desk and inquired about my breakfast. The clerk apologized about the non-notification, and gave me a coupon to take down to the restaurant for a "limited menu" breakfast. Fyi, the restaurant and adjoining bar is managed by an outside 3rd party (as is the valet parking, among other services provided in the hotel). At this point I was getting a little irritated with the hotel. I telephone the front desk and as Kim, the Area General Manager was unavailable, I asked for the Manager on Duty. I spoke with Keith, the Front Office Mgr, who volunteered that he also has supervision over the Club Lounge. Great I thought! My comments would be appreciated, acted on, and passed on to the General Manager. My expectation that action would result was obviously misplaced, as I experienced the exact set of circumstances the next morning in the Club Lounge....1. Door on 6th floor locked, 2. Hard, overdone scrambled eggs, 3. Dirty dishes (despite two attendants being present in the Lounge). Keith did apologize for not notifying the guests beforehand about the Lounge being closed, and said he would send an email to the Sales Dept about my reservation, and would insure that his front desk staff knew the Club Lounge hours in the future. He thanked me for advising him of the positive performance of Saed his front office supervisor, and Adam, the evening attendant in the Lounge. And, let me mention the poor attitude and performance of one of the 3rd party valet attendants....After bringing my car up front, normally the valet, or one his colleagues standing nearby with nothing to do would open and close the door for my wife, as passenger, and then attend to me as driver. Not here....he just stood at the driver door awaiting his tip. This completes my review. read more

Wowza!!! It's been awhile since I stayed here, but let me share with you the renovations are wonderful! Fresh paint, new carpet, completely updated rooms, nice beds and linens, good sized bathrooms, and flat screen tv's. The concierge floor has not been updated yet, but still offers guests a variety of food and drink options. The gym is great and I should probably take advantage of it a little more? The service is impeccable! The manager working was so nice and since the hotel was full and we checked in late we were upgraded to the presidential suite... Which I can tell you is 2250 square feet and serious rock star status! Thank you for the fantastic treatment! There is honestly not a better hotel in the Providence area! read more

Wow....The Renaissance has really stepped up their game! I gave The Renaissance 5 stars in my previous review because it truly is the best hotel in the Providence area. I arrived today and was told that the hotel is going through a few renovations. Um ok I thought....it didn't take too long to figure it out. Once I was off the elevator I could see the fresh paint and new carpet. It just smells fresh and clean. I opened the door to my room and yes updates to the rooms too! Fresh new carpet, wall art, lamps, furniture, and a brand new flatscreen television. Most importantly new beds with updated very soft bedding! If there was any doubt of where to stay in Providence the renovations just removed it. Very well done!!! read more

This property is in a great location in Providence. You can walk to the mall and downtown area with no problem. It is across the street from the beautiful RI State House. The valets were friendly and efficient upon arrival and departure. It's valet parking only and the cost was $30.00 per day. Ashmit at the front desk was welcoming and recognized my husband's Platinum status which is always appreciated but not always done at all properties. He upgraded us to a beautiful room without our having to ask. The room was spotless and beautiful. Nick in the Club Lounge keeps everything super clean and nice. The gym was clean and had great equipment. Everyone at this property greeted us when we were coming and going. We will definitely return to this property. read more

Stayed here last night. Will never return. Most overpriced hotel in Providence. Before even arriving they had already screwed up our reservation and given out my wife's personal information to another guest with a similar name. Even after my wife spent hours on the phone fixing their screw up they still took us a horrible room with a view of a wall. The room was also dirty upon arrival. Crumbs on the desk and food behind the lamps. Gross. You'd think for that money they'd care of you better after screwing up so badly. No class. Stay at the Omni if you want a nice hotel downtown. read more

Fabulous! Immaculate. Relatively new so it's all still fresh. Great lounge open til 1:00 am on wkends. Very quiet. Great views. Friendly, courteous, obliging service. Valet parking. WiFi, flat screen tv,iPhone ports, sundries, in room coffee/tea, Aveda bath products. Nicely appointed. Lush linens. Marble bathrooms. Will definitely stay again. read more

Excellent customer service, from the greeting to the check in to the staff. My place to go when in town! With great pleasure I highlight Yvonne at the front desk who made the experience especially welcoming, William with great suggestions for places to go and directions and Rob in Concierge who totally accommodating. Visited Providence in early Oct '23 for an overnight stay. Traveling with my teenage son and friend. Booked 2 rooms about a month before our trip to Providence RI. Called the hotel 2 weeks before our stay to ask that our rooms be on the same floor. Said they would put a note in the system for the request. Called again about a week before our stay. Central reservation said that the front desk would take care of it. When we got there they said they could not accommodate. Pretty disappointing given how much advance notice I gave them. The next morning went for a walk and it was raining. Asked the front desk for an umbrella. They had none. Normally wouldn't complain about this but after paying $500 a room per night you would expect better customer service. read more

For the amount of money I paid and the starts this place has our experience was awful. Not only was there an eyelash extension on our facecloth but our shower water was cold. The front desk was EXTREMELY unhelpful nor did they care about anything we needed. I'm so sick of paying a lot of money for hotels that are soooo unaccommodating. Don't stay here. You're better off paying for the Marriott courtyard or the Omni. Not worth staying here ever!!! read more

Nice hotel in historic building right across the street from the Capitol. Not a huge hotel but very friendly and easy to get around The rooms were nicely appointed and bright. The gym was fine and the restaurant was pretty good although providence has a ton of boutique restaurants for the foodies in your circle. read more
