The hotel is good, but the service overall is average. Housekeeping was poor, front desk was fair to poor. Notably, a/c in our room was terrible. One day, it was cooler outside than in our room. We made 3 calls about this issue, but they were never able to cool it down. They did quickly offer and deliver a portable fan, so I suspect this is a common issue here. If you're like us and prefer a cool room to sleep in (it was always 23 degrees Celsius or more in our room), you should check elsewhere. read more

I stayed in room 602 and I swear everything is broken in this room. The air conditioning would not get below 24 c/75 f degrees and when we complained we were told it worked and to open a window. We had a guy open the window for us (the handle is broken) and had to call someone at 3 am to close the window because it was flapping in the wind. There is a plug in the bathroom that is dangling off of the wall that we complained about 4 times that no ones fixed. It's a hotel. Nothing really wrong with it, but it also doesn't really do much to distinguish itself. Beds are comfy (but no fitted sheets!) and the bathrooms are fine. Although, while my shower was good, in the grand tradition of European bathrooms, it was designed so that the entire room got wet when you took a shower and there was nothing you could do about it. The scant glass partition that did nothing to prevent water from bouncing in to the room was also not sealed to the tub, allowing what little water it did hit to roll down it, through the broken seal, and in to a massive puddle under the vanity. Nice. We visited in the middle of a pretty good heat wave, so the hotel was warm, and I've been hurt before by European hotel A/C, but my room worked fine - didn't impact my ability to sleep at all. Staff were friendly about it too - comping cold drinks from the little convenience store in the lobby as we checked in. So, would I stay here again? Sure. Would I say it's exceptional? No, not really, but it's fine. And to be fair, I was in Brussels on business, and I did not have a chance to do any sightseeing, so I can't even comment on it's proximity to anything good to see or eat, honestly. read more

The staff is SOOO nice here. Sandra in the dining room may be the loveliest person I've ever met: kind, warm, gracious, remembers every detail of what you order. Andrea and Zinna (sp?) are so kind and helpful. Informative. Location is excellent; styling of lobby and room: very nice. Going with four stars for two reasons: 1) mattress is squishy which I ordinarily wouldn't notice but it's that bad. This is a nice hotel in Brussels. The service is very friendly when you check in and the rooms are clean and a good size. There are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance. You're also close enough to walk to the Grand-Place or catch a quick bus ride there. It's convenient to the European Parliament too. read more

As a big Marriott fan with status and tons of points, almost always book Marriotts when traveling overseas because I find the traditional European hotels to have very very tiny rooms with very tiny beds! This Renaissance is in a great location next to the English Parliament and a minute walk to one of the stops on the hop on hop off bus tour. We were able to walk to the center of town and explore by foot from this location. We were upgraded to a large corner suite with a king size bed, pull out sofa, a closet with plenty of storage, a nice sitting area and lots of natural light. It was a bit loud as we were on the first floor but fortunately we do not have problems sleeping but it could be problematic for someone who did. The bathroom was a bit small for this size room and I would have gladly given up a bit of room space for a bigger bath. Two people could not comfortably get ready in this space. The staff were all very accommodating. Aidan and I ate in the restaurant and were helped by Guna who was very kind and greeted us both times with a smile. The club sandwich was a bit light on meat although it did taste good and the pizza was ok but not great. read more

I wish I could give this place both a five star and a one star review, so I'm splitting the difference. Following the review style of my friend and fellow Elite Yelper Kate R, I'll break it down into the good and bad. The good: Check in was quick and easy, the restaurant staff was phenomenal and the food delicious. Room was lovely, very clean. Loved the fitness area / pool and sauna. Love the nice touch of using Tokyo Milk products for soap/shampoo, etc. The bad: Our first night, our phone rang exactly one loud ring about 3 in the morning. I was never able to fall back asleep. Between that and the traffic noise, sleepability was an issue. Our second night, we left the phone unplugged to avoid any risk of being rudely awoken in the middle of the night. We hung a breakfast order on our door at 10 p.m. (instructions were to put it out by 1 a.m.) with a request for breakfast delivery between 8:30 and 8:45. We figured the knock would suffice for a wake-up call. But breakfast never arrived. When I awoke at 9 and realized they'd never picked up the order, I phoned down to room service. She agreed that since it was their fault, we wouldn't be charged for breakfast and noted that it would be at our door within the half hour. It took a full hour, and when it arrived, it came with a bill. It took several phone calls to resolve the issue since apparently the person I'd talked to hadn't let the delivery person and another manager know that we shouldn't have been charged. We wound up not even eating it because the eggs ere undercooked and cold. It boggled our minds that the breakfast order wasn't picked up, since someone clearly came by in the middle of the night to slide our bill under our door. Vexing. read more

This hotel is situated on a quiet street across from the Bruxelles-Luxembourg station and near the European Parliament, and the rooms are beautifully renovated and luxurious feeling. The staff are extremely helpful (and English speaking) and the club lounge amenities are wonderful. The only real downside is this is a long walk to the central part of Brussels (about 25 minutes to Grand Place). I don't mind the walk, because we don't plan to do too much sightseeing in Brussels itself. I like the quiet neighborhood and the quality of the property. It is also a quick walk away from central Brussels, to Jourdan Place, which is a great non-touristy area to get some fries and a beer at one of the many cafes. read more

I enjoyed this hotel in the EU Quarter. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, they have an indoor pool and a sauna which were nice. The staff were very helpful and friendly as well. Rates can be high seeing as it's more of a business hotel but they do have good weekend deals for tourists. It's in a pretty good location too. It's quiet at night and it's only about a 15 minute walk to "lower town" and Grand Place. I would stay here again next time I'm in Brussels. read more

Very close to Parliment - great if that's your bag, but not as cool as old town Brussels. The staff is very friendly and fluent in English. The workout facilities are A+ as the Renaissance is connected to a local private gym (think a smaller 24 hour fitness). When I was checking in, some dude in the lobby had his laptop stolen right from under his nose - it was on his carry-on, and he was standing there with his hand on his luggage, but the thief just walked by and snagged his laptop bag. No one noticed for a few minutes, a chase ensued, police contacted.. quite a fiasco. Just a good reminder to keep your bags connected and under your control. read more

This review is being written under unique circumstances as I want to start by emphasizing some things that stand-out, which I most appreciate. First off, I am nearing my 50th night at this hotel between September and now (4 December), which I feel is a unique circumstance. To actually stay in one place that long and give 5 stars means something. I may not have given 5 stars if I was comparing one short term stay to other short term stays I have had at Renaissance or Marriott properties. That said, there are features that are worth noting that I encourage short-termers to pay attention to. The future of hospitality looks bright if Renaissance and Marriott invests in hiring (long-term) and continuing to motivate their high-performing interns. Two remarkable intern staff members made such a positive difference in my experience here: Ksenia from the Club Lounge and Kirsten from the Front Desk. Kirsten actually just finished her internship and I didn't get to properly wish her well (I hope she sees this). She was actually the first person I ever met in person at this property. These two young women exemplify a high standard of service. They pay attention, they are patient, they are kind and they are solutions-focused. In fact, after an extraordinarily exhausting day, I am compelled to write this review due to Ksenia's "above & beyond" service. I had some lovely hors d'oeuvres from the Club Lounge (that I will write about in an update), which lessened my appetite to the point that I just wanted dessert. I asked Ksenia if she could describe the chocolate mousse and confirm if it was what was pictured in the "room service menu". She looked into it and said that what was pictured was not the chocolate mousse and was no longer being offered (it looked like a chocolate souffle). I said I was not interested in anything other than the souffle pictured. Not long after, I heard a knock at my door and it was Ksenia with a warm chocolate muffin, warm chocolate sauce and strawberries (picture to follow). She was so resourceful, kind and solutions-focused! To listen deeply to what my needs were, find a solution and actually deliver such a creative result is extraordinary. She is currently an intern and I seriously recommend to Renaissance & Marriott to recruit her assertively before sister company, Ritz, or competitor, Four Seasons, reaches out to her. She is an amazing service-oriented person who shows potential for great leadership through her insight and personal influence. Long story not much shorter - it is people like Ksenia and Kirsten who make experiences at hotels memorable. Amenities and beautiful surroundings catch our attention in the short term, though the people make a difference from start to finish. After being here for nearly 50 nights, I am writing this review now because of the people. There are others that set my stay up in such an accommodating way like Pierre (Regional Director of Sales) and Kalliopi (Front Office Manager) that I am extraordinarily grateful to, though it is the day-to-day kindness of Ksenia and Kirsten that move me to write what I have just now. read more

Let me say that this hotel has some of the RUDEST staff I have ever encountered in a hotel. They are so tight with their dumb RULES that it makes the experience unpleasant for any guest that is unfortunate enough to stay at this hotel. Where to begin, lets start with the bartender who told a guest he could not drink a drink he brought from the outside even though he was sitting at a table with 6 people that ordered drinks from the bartender. We told him it was his birthday (which it really was) and he said "Well does that mean he gets special treatment?" and then made him leave the table. The next annoying, disrespectful treatment was at the Lounge Club where they always ask you for your room number and then question you when you bring a friend with you. I brought someone with me at the lounge and they said she could not stay there even though she wasn't eating anything. I brought a glass of water upstairs to my room and they told me to bring a paper cup of water next time. Other issues was the fact that I had to switch rooms because the toilet was not working and they DOWNGRADED my room. When I asked to get upgraded, they ignored me and I had to follow up with them twice. Someone else in my party had a leaking ceiling in her room that leaked right into her suitcase. The customer is not always right, but if you want to keep them as your customer, you have to treat them right. This hotel is probably a 3.5, bordering on a 4, but am putting it as a 3 for now as it has so much promise, but just needs some small extra things to make it really great and reach its full potential. So first of all, the good things 1. The quality of everything here is impressive - expensive furniture and wallpaper, v. comfortable beds, nice toiletries (with a wide array including sewing kit and emery board), robes and slippers, english tv channels (and not just the news). 2. The hotel has a pool, sauna and gym attached for free use. 3. Location - only a 15 min walk from town, easy to get to from the airport as very close to the European Parliament, area feels safe to wander round. Now the not so good things... 1. The staff were slightly hit and miss in terms of being helpful - on arrival we were told that we were too early and couldn't check in, but could leave our bags. However, the person on the desk didn't tell us what time we could check in at (we had to ask!), or even offer us a map of the local area (despite having them behind the desk). Similarly on trying to use the pool, very hard to get information from the staff there on the first day (including where the changing rooms were). Sunday staff were far nicer, helping to work out when the next bus to the airport was, and where to find lockers in the changing rooms. 2. Lack of information generally in the the hotel room - I'm used to arriving in hotel rooms and there being a general information booklet (with information such as check out time, breakfast time, using the leisure facilities, useful numbers etc, etc). However, nothing like this existed. 3. Tiny little touches would make a difference - e.g. for two people staying in a room provide toiletries such as shampoo for two, or 2 tea bags, or even things like milk (or lemon?) to go with the tea 4.Breakfast - a large array of food on offer, but once more could be a little bit better as some things seemed to be out a little long and cold pancakes were served on one of the days. Overall, its a nice hotel to stay in, it just has the potential with a few small changes to be a really really nice place. read more

Stayed at this hotel for a week & my room was ready by 8am as requested which was a plus since I had an overnight flight in. I had a note from a Supervisor under my door on my first evening to offer assistance during my stay. I also found that the bellman working in the mornings was great - he always smiling, cheerful & ready to assist in any way. The room was a decent size & has several drawers available for storing belongings. The concierge lounge is closed on the weekends, including Friday evening. The lounge breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, assorted croissants & bread, fresh fruit, a varitety of cereals, juice & coffee. I ordered lasagna from room service late night once which was ok. I took off a star because a couple of the front desk staff and the concierge could be more friendly. When I asked for dinner recommendations on my first night I was told there was plenty of restaurants within walking distance without being provided names or addresses. Another night when I asked about shopping, I was given some recommendations from a different concierge then I asked on the prior evening & he provided a map & told me I could walk 20 minutes or take a taxi from the nearby square. I would've preferred that he offer to call a taxi for me given I was traveling alone. I did notice that 1 of my bathroom lights on the mirror was out but fixed quickly. read more

Nice Marriott property with expected amenities. Parking garage entrance is located just west of the lobby entrance on a one-way street so try to avoid driving all the way around the block to find it. Some people got stuck in one of the elevators one evening so I opted for the stairs most days. Great service including a nice surprise gift basket of fruit and few Belgian beers in my room congratulating me on recent Marriott status promotion. read more

It's a nice average hotel - not bad but also nothing special. I would have given it 3 stars, but would have expected more from a hotel in this price range. Location - depends on what you're looking for or where you'll spend time in the city. It's across from the Brussels-Luxembourg train station, EU Parliament, and some nice bars and restaurants - but it's far from the Grand Place and the subway system. Rooms - average. The decor is modern and the beds are incredibly comfortable. However, my room on the 6th floor (top floor) seemed dark without much light coming in and with slanted walls making it seem small. One big down side was the sheets - there were stains on two of the four pillows - if I could see them then so could the staff, but the sheets weren't changed the entire week that I was there (which was obvious b/c of the stained pillows). I obviously used the pillows that didn't have stains and thought about calling to request a change of sheets, but it was just one of a list of things that I could have addressed and seemed like more work than it was worth. Service - the front desk staff was pleasant enough but certainly didn't go out of their way to make the stay more pleasant or convenient. It didn't feel like they made any effort to make the stay more pleasant. For example, I thought my reservation (booked by my business) included internet, but was told that it didn't and that they couldn't do anything about that. When I got on my laptop and showed them their online rates (some of which were lower than the rate I had) showed internet included, but were able to fix the problem but were sure to emphasize that it was a courtesty they could offer this one time (if your rate says it's included online, then it doesn't feel like a courtesy, it feels like you're complying with your own policy after I've gone to the trouble to point out a problem). It wasn't a huge deal, but also didn't leave a positive impression. Housekeeping was ok - nothing special. I was there for a week and so some of the products in the bathroom needed to be replaced, but whether they would be replaced or not seemed hit or miss depending on the day. Sometimes I would have to wait 2 days to get conditioner, or a shower cap, and had to actually call about more soap. Also, see my comments on sheets not being changed above. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but not impressive either - just average as an experience and below expectations for a hotel in this price range. read more

Here for work. Nice rooms with nice sized desk and open refrigerator for your snacks and drinks. Bathtub and shower nicely sized and water always hot. Bathroom a bit small and would be hard for two to get ready at the same time if that is an issue. Great exercise facilities. Clean and tons of options. Pool looks very nice as well. Have t used yet. Breakfast has a good array. Negatives: for some strange reason my confirmed reservation which I have on mobile app and email (booked through my Elite phone number w a live person as well) is not accurate. Rate slightly wrong. Breakfast not included as my reservation shows. Have spent two days trying to get that fixed and Joshua was kind to try to fix it the first day and saw the info and assured me it would be taken care of and he would talk to the manager but it was not corrected when I checked evening of the second day The manager (I suppose bc she said Joshua had spoken w her yesterday) was a bit saucy. Repeatedly stating I hadn't forwarded them the emailed confirmation (which I was not asked to do the first time but did on the spot) So I told her I wouldn't leave the desk until it was corrected this time given I thought it was resolved. Her response was loud, aggressive and not Marriott normal but I wasn't deterred. I have the confirmation email and number so why they can't figure it out is completely beyond me, so minus a star for this wacky issue and the attitude. By checking out from the room, my wife forgot her necklace on the nightstand in the room. When we called the hotel, staff said: "they did not find anything, probably the next guests must have taken the necklace."
