Imagine, walking in the rain to find this building that doesn't have a lighted sign to find...in a foreign country, with vagrants about. Sounds like something from a horror movie. The front desk was fine checking in. Although they did give me information that was misleading and not correct. I had an upgrade? Access to a Club Lounge? Weird...you didn't mention that. Oh wait, the Lounge is closed. And the restaurant, oh yeah, closed too - relocated into a weird corner in the Lobby bar. Internet, it's free. Would I enter any personal information on it (thinking it was secure and I might get my identity stolen)? Absolutely not. Want to print a boarding pass? Not as easy as it sounds! And don't look to Guest Services to help - because they don't know anything about it. Room? Outdated? Absolutely. Could I hear kids and other people out in the hall...as well as the sirens throughout the night? Absolutely! Was it clean........eh, a little. Sketch part of town as also indicated by the many, many signs in the Lobby that said "Thieves look just like you and me".... Was I glad to check out? Absolutely.

The magnificent Grand Place is 2 mins walk away and St Hubert shops and galleries are right next door. The room we were in was spacious, bed was a comfortable queen and bathroom was a good size. There's a bit of noise coming from the outside because it's in the bustling pedestrian street but nothing that prevented us to sleep. Shower pressure was great. We prepaid on Expedia and was charged €4 per person (cash) tourism tax upon check-in. This is a great base in Brussels. Day trips to Ghent and Bruges are recommended. We stopped by Brussels on our way down to Paris and stayed at this little hotel. Le Plaza is a bit…read moreaway from the main city center (~15 min walk), but it was a short walk from the train station that we arrived in. Hotel Le Plaza Brussels is an Art Deco palace built between 1928 and 1931 and has witnessed a lot of history over the years. You walk into the lobby and will notice they maintained a lot of the building's old charm with its arches, shields, faux wood beams, & wrought iron light fixtures throughout. It definitely gives the space a classic elegance. We had a corner room on the top floor that had a pretty sweet wrap-around balcony where we could see the top of the buildings poking through from Grand Place. The room itself was laid out a bit weird with a really long hallway, a large bathroom, but small room. This was fine for us since we just needed a place to stay. My only real complaint was that someone on our floor was smoking the whole time we were there & we mentioned it to the staff. I am really not a fan of smoke and it makes me feel sick. Luckily we spent most of our time out & about the city. It is an older hotel and the rooms could use some freshening up with a new coat of paint and upgraded furniture, but it was fine for the most part. What really shined and stood out during our stay here was the service. We arrived during a really strange time where the public transportation workers were having demonstrations and were on strike (our train into Brussels was delayed for hours because of this!). On the day we checked out the bellhop told us to wait in the lobby and he would hail a cab for us. After waiting 20 or so minutes and getting really nervous that we would miss our train to Paris, the most amazing thing happened. After trying everything to get us on our way (there was no taxi or public transportation running), the bellhop sincerely apologized for the wait because he could not find a cab for us. Understandable given the circumstances. He then offered to PERSONALLY drive us in his own car to the train station. He picked us up at the front of the hotel in his Mercedes and loaded up our luggage for us. He knew all the shortcuts & got us to where we need to be so quickly! I was so amazed and thankful and he was just so pleasant throughout the whole experience. Amazing, amazing service! I really wish I could remember his name, but thanks to him we made it to our train on time and he really left us with a good feeling in our hearts that there is still good people in this world. It's a great reminder to be kind to people & more often than not, kindness will be returned... Maybe even 10-fold. 5 stars Le Plaza!

We booked for two days and the first day it's like 90F/30C ish outside and our AC is not working and we called to ask them to fix it but nothing happened. We then asked to switch for a room, but they said no other rooms are available but they can bring us a fan, of which it came like another hour and half later. The second day we went to complaint again and finally they agree to give us another room and this time the AC works. The rooms themselves are definitely the most spacious and old-European looking but the facilities are not the best and the staffs really need to act more like they care and improve the service. The stars mainly points to the design of the place but not the practically and functionality of it.

Walking in, it's clean and smells nice. The staff was super efficient and got me checked in within a few minutes of me walking through the door. There is a restaurant on site, but I can't comment as we did not dine there. I had a queen sized bed room and it's enough for 2 people. The room has a fridge and a coffee maker. Though, I didn't try using their coffee maker because I don't know when's the last time it was cleaned out. There's a pretty big safe in the closet. The bathroom has a tub and a shower. Though, the shower itself is a little tight, but manageable. Bed was comfy, but it did get hot during the night and we set the temp all the way down, but that didn't cool the room down enough. Bathroom is big enough and not cramped at all. A couple of caveats is that this place is about 30 minutes away from the city center. You can either walk to the bus stop, take the shuttle back to the airport and take the subway or use Uber. We decided to use Uber as that comes out to about $35 vs, $11 one way using the subway and will probably take at least an hour to get to the city center. The's only 1 restaurant on site and I didn't see anything else in the area. There was no store that I was able to see. There's also public transportation right outside if you happen to miss your shuttle to the airport.

For the price, you cant beat the comfort and the location. This hotel was exactly what we needed to spend 3 days in this beautiful city. Located right next to shopping, attractions and restaurants of Grand Place, as well as near one of the main transportation hubs. Tons of other historical and architectural attractions within walking distance also made this a great hotel choice. Be prepared: this is not your typical hotel experience. Since this is marketed as an extended stay property, it has a feel of apartments vs. actual full service hotel. Upon making your reservation, make sure to receive a key code for the front door. This hotel does not have a front desk or full-time on property staff. There is, however, an on-call manager who proved to be affective and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Your room key needs to be inserted into a slot right next to the door to activate electricity. Plenty of space for your belongings, an office desk area, queen size bed and a flat screen television surrounded by modern, inexpensive IKEA style decor. Here's our funny story: Arrived in Brussels and located the property in early afternoon. Our front door key code was not working or we just weren't using it properly. A nice young couple was walking by and used their key card to let us in. Once inside we located our room keys and welcome packages in a lock-box. All is well so far :-) I opened our room only to discover someone asleep in the bed. Oops! ...It's the right room number and the key card worked... Our friends, somehow ended up with the exact same scenario. We quickly huddle downstairs and call the manager on-duty. She promptly returns our call and starts working on the issue. Turns out, a large family had rented out the entire floor and was scheduled to check-out early in the am. Head of the family came downstairs to chat with us, and said he simply decided not to check-out and extend his stay...however he failed to get a hold of the hotel and let them know. The manager directed us to a near by cafe and took care of our lunch assuring our small group that this issue will be resolved promptly. We relaxed and had our lunch while watching the chaos of this large family frantically trying to gather their belongings and all the kids while making arrangements for alternative accommodations. Our rooms were cleaned and we were ready to check in within 2 hours. We all (us, hotel guests and manager) parted as friends. The rest of our stay was as any other hotel experience would or should be - uneventful :-) We had a blast exploring the city and walking all over Grand Place area and the rest of Brussels.

Instead, they email you two codes before you arrive, one to let you into the building and one so you can open a locker to get your key cards. Then, when to check out you just drop your key cards into a different locker. I guess it's efficient, it worked fine for us. Obviously it means there's no room service or anything like that (they have cleaners on weekdays) but that was fine for us. Apart from that strangeness, this is a great hotel. The rooms are apartments that include a room with a kitchenette, a small dining tables, a sofa with a TV, a desk and then there's a bedroom and bathroom. The room was warm, clean and spacious, although it was starting to show signs of wear and tear in parts. We didn't have much of a view, but given the fantastic location in the centre of the old town, you don't have to go far to find one. The kitchenette was handy for making snacks and things. The bed was huge and comfy. The only downside was that I think our room happened to be near some pipes that fed the other bathrooms in the hotel, and the noise of the running water could get quite loud. I think this would be absolutely ideal if you needed to stay in Brussels for a few weeks and wanted to do you own cooking and things. No doubt it's perfect for business trips. It's good for tourists too, though - it's only two minutes from the Grand Place.

The free breakfast was AMAZING -- I mean seriously United States' continental breakfast can't even compare. I also loved the bread bar (seriously like a wall of really fresh bread) and the compound butter and jam options. I'd stay here JUST for the free breakfast again!
