Got a bunch of day old donuts for the office - the little guy said "some say my day olds are better than fresh Tims!" And you know what!? They were! Got a pizza shell which was 10/10 so fluffy I could take a nap on it! A pepperoni cheddar stick which was ok and we tried a bunch of cannolis!! They were so good!! So several years later, here I am. The ambiance is typical for a bakery run by a 70 year old man. There are old signs like "espresso yourself" up on the walls. One immediate problem stood out to me: there's no air conditioning, and it was hot in there. I got a blueberry pastry and a coffee. Although the coffee was just in a pre-made cannister, it was quite good and refillable. The pastry was very good and had a ton of fruit filling. There is plenty of seating, although I can imagine it gets quite busy at 5 in the morning when all the old people from Strathmore come in for lunch. It said on the window that it was a bakery and a cafe, but I failed to see any espresso machine and didn't ask. Strathmore needs a good cafe with great espresso and a friendly atmosphere--like Analog or Phil & Sebastian's in Calgary. This certainly isn't it, unfortunately. With that said, I'll probably come back again when I'm in the mood for a fresh pastry.

I've gotten a couple of London Fogs here and they're pretty on the mark. So many places make them way too sweet. The building faces east and there's some nice big windows at the front so you can enjoy your morning brew sitting in the sunshine and reading something from their sizable magazine rack. They do have some food options including sandwiches and baked goods which are pre-assembles and individually wrapped. The service has been friendly and served with a smile on both occasions I've popped in for a pick-me-up while out on a job site.

They hand crafted a menu to suit us specifically and it was the number one thing we bragged about to friends before the event and after. They were able to meet every single dietary restriction but not only that, they did it well. The vegan/vegetarian options were arguably the best on the menu which is rare and hard to accomplish especially when it comes to a big event (and it wasn't pasta!). When I say that I also want to highlight how good their meat mains were too. All the carnivores where just as satisfied as the vegans, which is no small feat. They thought of absolutely everything when planning our wedding and made us feel more like friends than clients. I also appreciated their focus on local and sustainable food sources but while also taking into consideration our (meagre) budget. They made all our food dreams come true. They served our 175 guests cocktail hour, dinner, dessert, AND midnight snack for less per person than an average prime rib dinner. While making each aspect of the event accessable and enjoyable to absolutely all dietary choices, minimizing waste, and focusing on local and sustainable food sources. Peach could have used a bit more flavour, but the raspberry mango was excellent. I also bought radishes and green onions from some farmers. Both were good. The bulbs on the green onions could double as a weapon against a robber breaking into your house--one knock to the head and he'd be out cold. I hope by late July to come here weekly for some fruit and fresh vegetables, and to get some corn in August and September.
