Paid them £1000 for nothing…read more We were trying to do a move to beat the stamp duty deadline. Got a few quotes, went with AGB as they seemed really good. They explained the process that a place in the queue wasn't guaranteed, they would warn us if availability wasn't assured. And indeed, they kept calling us back and letting us know. As the original date approached and it was clear that we may not make it due to issues our side, they tried their best to accommodate us. But ultimately we had to pay a cancellation fee of £1000. Now, I appreciate why these things exist and I accept it sometimes happens that you have to pay a fee, especially because the issue was on our side. At that point things seemed to turn. The company gave us a new target move date which we then began to work for. What was different this time around is that they didn't keep calling us back to keep us appraised of the queue. A few days prior to move, once everything was confirmed our side, we called them back. First they said let us call you back, later they called back to say they didn't have any availability. It feels like after having paid the £1000 you'd expect or assume a stronger place in the queue. I'm not sure we ever were properly recorded in placed in the queue for the second move date. In the end we had to pay for another company as AGB were unable to do the move, and we are therefore £1000 down for no service received. Again, I understand why cancellation fees exist. But it's a little hard to believe the company was unable to find another customer for our move date and financially impacted during the rush to beat the stamp duty deadline. Feels like we've paid out £1000 for nothing.
