The tables were full of dish options and most were still steaming they were so fresh (at 5:30 on a Friday, before a hockey game) and the dishes were being refilled very regularly. I personally loved the ceiling mural that was light by the ceiling lights. The rest of the restaurant was very plain but well designed to keep noise levels to a minimum. A reasonable price for a buffet dinner on top of it all.

Honestly, these are authentic Chinese dim sum dishes, and I noticed plenty of customers eating them. They seem to be quite popular! Of course, they also had the more typical buffet offerings, such as dumplings, fried wontons, fried noodles, sweet and sour pork, broccoli beef, and even pierogies. For soups, they offered cream of broccoli and hot and sour soup. There was also a salad bar with sushi rolls. The dessert selection was pretty impressive, too. You could choose between soft-serve and regular ice cream, along with pumpkin pie, cream puffs, and pudding. Honestly, there was a lot of variety to choose from! I can see why this place gets so busy during lunchtime. I'd recommend checking it out, especially if you're hungry and want plenty of options to choose from!

On my way to be seated, I walked past the lunch buffet which looked liked there were plenty of tasty offerings. However, I went with a recommendation of the steak sandwich. First of all, it's not a sandwich. It actually is a steak with two half pieces of garlic Texas toast that comes with Cole slaw and a side. For my side, I opted for a tossed green salad. The quality of the meal was just so so, but my experience of a nice wait staff and the price ($11.95) elevated the rating to 4 stars.

After ~3 years & trying several things on the menu, I've learned to stick to 1 thing. The chef's salad, but even then you're not guaranteed to receive the same sized plate/bowl or that it will contain the same ingredients from visit to visit. I've tried sandwiches, wraps, potato skins, burgers, desserts, soups, etc. Many times the dishes are overcooked, so they're dry, dark in colour, & sometimes a husk of their former selves. If they're not overcooked, some are just not particularly tasty. Asparagus soup. A "chocolate" dessert that tasted very un-chocolate-like. Etc. The dining area has quiet corners which makes it an ideal restaurant for conversation. Something not easy to come by, these days. So, I enjoy the quiet, dimly lit corners, the pleasant staff, and try to eat before meeting friends. Or I order the salad...

The place is empty, dead, and dirty. Our drinks arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered them, and we were the only people in the restaurant. The last time I sent something back was probably in like 2002, but the coffee tasted like it was strained through a gym bag, and the pop my kids ordered had no fizz. Just syrup and water. The food prices are insane. $21.00 for sandwiches and everything we ordered was dry, reheated, and flavourless . My son ordered a grilled cheese and refused to eat it. I scolded him him, telling him it was impossible to mess up grilled cheese. I tasted it and it tasted like melted plastic. Absolutely would never eat here again.

Though many patrons opt for the hot buffet, for around $10 diners can eat from the soup/salad bar which offers several different salads/toppings, two daily soups, oven-fresh bread, and desert bar. (Note: You'll have to inform your waitress that you want the cheaper version of the buffet, otherwise you'll end up paying $5-6 more) Few people seem to take advantage of this great deal (fine by me, because I always get a table that way!) but it truly is a fantastic little spot to grab a quick bite to eat while on your lunch break downtown. http://www.reddeerlodge.ca/dining/index.asp
