I dislike the front desk and admin support. They don't seem to know that they work at a doctor's office. Why are they so spacey and unprepared when a patient shows up for an appointment?

# AVOID! NEW OWNERS HAVE RUINED THIS MEDICAL PRACTICE!…read more I was a patient of the former Cupertino Podiatry for many years and trusted its doctors with two operations. Since the practice became part of a large Bay Area podiatry network, the Cupertino office has turned into a disorganized, unprofessional disaster. I wouldn't trust this staff to trim my toenails, much less assist with surgery. The chaotic, noisy atmosphere inspires zero confidence in the quality of care. ### 1. INCOMPETENT STAFF The staff repeatedly blames its incompetence on the transition to a new electronic medical records (EMR) system and the expansion of the practice. However, the real problems are a lack of professionalism, respect and accountability. When I returned in July for right foot pain, Dr. Lee told me I would receive information at the front desk. I never received it and had to request foot exercises myself. I also received an unexpected text from a prescription website that had my birth date. Nobody could explain why an outside company had my personal information. Staff speculated that CVS had sent it, although CVS had never contacted me this way before. I was also promised information about shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis. When it never arrived, I contacted Judy, the office manager. She promised someone would send it, but nobody did. **If even the manager cannot ensure that staff fulfill basic responsibilities, the practice has a serious management problem.** ### 2. UNLABELED X-RAYS **The staff couldn't even ensure that my X-rays were properly labeled as right or left foot!** After nobody emailed my X-rays, I called and left a message. I eventually received nine images, although Austin had taken only six. Cherissa, who emailed them, apparently failed to notice the duplicates or that NONE of the images identified which foot was shown. My chiropractor's radiologist couldn't distinguish the right and left lateral images because they weren't labeled. When I reported this to Cherissa, she said she was too busy learning the new EMR system to investigate. She offered no apology and insisted the problem wasn't her responsibility. At my appointment, Dr. Lee and Austin confirmed that the original X-rays were properly labeled on their computer, but the labels had disappeared during PDF conversion. Austin had to take screenshots showing the correct labels. **Why did I have to identify and help solve a basic medical records problem? How many other patients received improperly labeled X-rays?** ### 3. BLAMING EVERYTHING ON THE NEW RECORDS SYSTEM During one visit, three front desk employees stared at their computer screens without acknowledging me as I stood at the counter. I was then required to complete numerous privacy and financial forms on an iPad in the noisy waiting area. These could easily have been emailed beforehand. The EMR trainer said patients should have received advance notice of the transition. I received no letter, and nobody mentioned it at my appointment two weeks earlier. Had I known, I could have arrived early or completed the forms at home. When scheduling my next appointment, the receptionist offered a date three weeks away instead of the requested two weeks. She blamed the computer template. A computer system does not excuse employees from thinking for themselves or checking their work! ### 4. EXCESSIVE NOISE The front desk was so noisy that I couldn't comfortably communicate my pharmacy information to Cherissa. When I requested a quieter location, she initially refused because she needed her computer. Eventually, she took paper into another room to record the information. Your front desk staff should be aware that they're dealing with many patients who are old and hard of hearing who make a lot of noise. It makes it harder for those of us who are not hard of hearing to actually communicate with the front desk staff when other patients are speaking loudly. Sometimes I heard patient's & doctor's conversations in the lobby because the people were speaking loudly. There should be a strategy for dealing with these situations where your staff can take a laptop with them and walk into another room with the patient who needs to give them information. ### 5. TERRIBLE CALL CENTER Unlike the former Cupertino Podiatry, patients can no longer call the local front desk directly. Calls now go through a call center in the Philippines, where employees can sometimes be difficult to understand. You must leave messages and hope the Cupertino office calls back. Sometimes nobody responds, requiring repeated calls and requests to speak with Judy, the manager. ### 6. TWO MONTHS TO REFUND A $250 DEPOSIT I ordered custom orthotics from Dr. Lee in July and received them in August. However, it took two months, numerous emails and repeated phone calls to recover my $250 deposit. The billing department hadn't even seen my orthotics claim, forcing me to involve Judy again. ### FINAL VERDICT: AVOID!

Dr. Douglas Robinson DPM, was highly recommended to me by the pediatric office of my son…read more From the moment we walked in, it was obvious that the staff, and Dr. Robinson himself not only care about patients but are really good with people of all ages (my son is 8 years old). Dr. Robinson talked directly to my son, and gave him instructions in a manner that was clear that he cared about reaching him on his level and vocabulary, and not that he was talking down to him. Upon listening to my narrative, he told me confidently that he could solve my son's problems, and spoiler alert he did! In probably 10 minutes or less, Dr. Robinson was able to diagnose what were the problems my son was having (flat feet, tight arches and feet that had outgrown his shoes). He was able to find for us orthotics in his office that fit him, which is great because we didn't have to go through the time and expense of having customized molds made. My son and I are now at home, he has new orthotics, and his new shoes in the correct size. I am so happy to report that my son is now walking regularly and comfortably. I highly recommend this office especially if you are a parent bringing in a child as a patient!

Through the years Dr. Robinson has cared for four generations of our family, and we truly appreciate the trust and relationship that has been built over the years. Every visit is thorough and professional, but also warm, kind, and usually accompanied by a good laugh. We couldn't be more thankful for Dr. Robinson and the exceptional care our family has received!
