Lincoln Furniture Warehouse is advertised as The Big Yellow Building on St Peter Street and it…read morecertainly is. From the outside it looks like a big yellow warehouse and not very welcoming, but go inside and it is absolutely crammed full of furniture. This doesn't sell your average, run of the mill, furniture, but very nice pieces manufactured in oak, pine and walnut to name a few. They have everything from coffee tables, through dining suites, to bookcases, CD racks and sideboards. Go through to the other side and they also have wardrobes, bed frames, chests of drawers etc. I bought some oak pieces for my lounge and am very impressed with them. They are well made and finished and extremely heavy - nothing flimsy about them. You can choose to have either a waxed finish or lacquer coating on the furniture - depending on which pieces you buy. If you are fortunate enough to find a piece you like in their sale section, lucky you - you can pick up some wonderful things at up to 50% off their normal price. The staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful and if you don't want to take the furniture away with you, they will deliver it for you very quickly. All in all a fabulous store with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere (once inside that is - not the yellow warehouse look of outside!)

If you don't go for all the sumptuous sofas, chairs, beds, gifts, lights, dressers and a rather natty drinks cabinet built into a ship's trunk, then go for what is one of the city's best-looking buildings. Opened in 1903 and originally home to the Laurie & McConell department store, it has a stunning staircase that weaves up to a huge skylight, which bathes the space in light and air. Quality.

We kitted out our daughters bedroom in amazing stuff all made to look brand new, for a fraction of the cost that we would have spent even at Ikea.
