This was my second visit in the same week to this establishment. The first visit was amazing, great food and service. So naturally I returned with my partner for another, what I thought would be another great experience. WOW! Was I wrong!!! My partner ordered a coffee made anywhere else without a problem. Evidently it WAS a problem for Damon. He very rudely retorted " I'm not going to make that". When we said It has been made before he again replied in a snarky, sarcastic tone "I don't care, Im not going to do that". Both my partner and I immediately cancelled our orders and left. Never to return. This visit was such a disappointment after we came straight from climbing Mt Iron and he ruined what started out to be an epic morning. Very, very poor customer service! read more

Wonderful. We had a long day ahead of us so we ate up and I had what I'd call their version of the English breakfast and it was amazing. Perfect really even if the fennel sausage wasn't my favorite - still tasty. My wife had the three grain porridge and still thinks maybe it was her favorite breakfast on the trip. I really enjoyed our stop in Relishes Cafe. The view from the patio is gorgeous and the dishes we tried were seriously good. We tried: - The noodle salad with prawn skewers - The lentil burger with lots of tasty pickles and perfect bread They were quite light meals, made with fresh, good quality ingredients. Each one packed in fantastic flavours. This was just what we needed after a long hot drive to Wanaka. The only thing that could be better was the service. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly good either. We had to ask for water a few times before they remembered to bring some to our table. Then, I spent quite a long time waiting to pay as the staff were so busy chatting that they ignored me standing my the till. OMG!!! We had brunch here and got Okinoyami (Japanese Vegetable Pancakes) and Mango turmeric smoothie bowl. Both of them were so unique, flavorful and delicious. This is by far our best meal in NZ so far. All of the other dishes were so unique that we were confused for the first 10 mins about what to order HIGHLY recommend this place if you want to try and experience non-standard breakfast fare. read more

This place was ok for breakfast but didn't have any wow factor in the two meals we shared hence the three stars rating. I ordered the salmon dish and felt that it was mostly potatoes. They should add an extra poached egg so that two eggs are included with the meal. Also the salmon portion should be increased. As for the taste it was just ok as mentioned in the intro. My wife went with the edamame dish which I also found just ok but my wife really liked. If you are a sweet tooth like us then you won't find anything yummy from the menu. We decided to eat dessert in Patagonia chocolat. Overall good place for breakfast but don't expect anything special from the food. read more

Wanaka's not a big place, but with only one morning to enjoy, we really wanted to find the best breakfast spot in town. So we asked our server at dinner the night before, and she didn't even take a moment to think before blurting out: "Relishes. No question. Best coffee and brekkie in Wanaka." So it was sorted. Thanks Yelp beta! And even with such high expectations, we were not disappointed. It's tough not to love the place immediately upon walking in - old pots and pans hang from the walls, a gorgeous display of home-baked goods (cinnamon rolls come to me now) sit on the bar and there's a stunning view across the lake from the wide open entrance. On this wintery morning, the 3 grain porridge with vanilla bean and brown sugar topped with hazelnuts and warm poached winter fruit (in cinnamon and star anise no less) was exactly what the doctor ordered. One of the better breakfasts I have had in NZ - on par with my breakfasts at Buffalo Cafe in Remeura, Auckland, NZ. We had: the banana bread with caramelized pineapple, Greek yogurt and Hawea honey; eggs Benedict with smoked salmon; bacon and eggs. The banana bread is some of the best I've ever had, and the pineapple, yogurt, and honey were perfect compliments - this is a 5 star dish. The eggs Benedict was great as well, and although the eggs weren't as runny as I'm used to, they were great - I actually preferred the way these eggs were poached so I also highly recommend this dish. The bacon and eggs, as simple as they are, were also delicious. Outside of food, the coffee was very good. The flat whites and long blacks are as good as any cafe in NZ - I've found that Kiwis take coffee very seriously and it really is hard to go wrong with coffee in this country. The ambience is also very warm and inviting - with a full wood fireplace, wood floors and tables, and simple decoration. All in all, great breakfast experience in this quaint cafe on lake Wanaka. read more

One of the coolest things about New Zealand is its emphasis on organic and locally sourced foods. I ordered the mushroom Eggs Benny and it was absolutely delightful. The eggs had an orangish yolk and were some of the freshest I have ever had. The mushrooms were roasted to perfection. My friends got a wintergreen salad and a ham and cheese croissant, both looked to die for. All in all eat at this cafe and you will definitely not be disappointed. read more

Dinner was excellent. Highly recommend the lamb which literally melted in my mouth. They also had a drizzle of two sauces, a baslamic and fennel oil. Breakfast was good. My wife particularly enjoyed the banana bread. However, when we went to pay at the counter, there was a bowl there with a sign soliciting contributions to assassinate Donald Trump. We removed the sign, and handed it to the cashier telling him to throw it away. We explained that whether people wanted Clinton or Trump to win, that attempt at humor was over the line and in very bad taste. If we had seen that before ordering, we would not have eaten there. You may want to look for the sign before you order, and if it's still there voice your opinion and walk out. read more

We came without reservations for dinner. The food was mediocre and forgettable and I would of given it 3 stars for that. But their service and bad attitude take it down to 2. If you don't want to serve people that don't have reservations, then say you're full. We would of left and had an enjoyable meal elsewhere. But, they weren't full and seated us. They then proceeded to ignore us for 20 minutes before taking our order. It took an obscene amount of time for the food to come out given that the restaurant did not seem busy. A couple that had reservations and who arrived after us received timely service and food before us. The whole thing left a bad taste in our mouth. If you don't care about customer service for people without reservations, then don't serve us! If you don't want our money, we can gladly spend it somewhere who wants our business! read more

adorable place with good coffee, friendly staff, and a good menu. i had breakfast at Relishes before climbing Roy's Peak and it filled me up well! the cafe's front opens up to Lake Wanaka, which is a beautiful sight to sip your flat white to around sunrise. while my coffee was great, my meal could have been better. i ordered the quesadilla with salmon, and found the salmon a little too soft and moist to be paired with the spinach also inside the quesadilla. also had one of their lemon and ginger protein balls which was great, as well as their in-house biscotti. read more

Good food, rude service. We decided to try Relishes as it was recommended to us by our hotel staff. We did not have reservations, but the restaurant only had a few tables seated and the rest of the restaurant was empty so we decided to give it a try. The staff proceeded to tell us that they had reservations coming in, so they could seat us if we would be willing to eat in an hour and 15 minutes. It was 7:30pm, I couldn't imagine they had the whole restaurant filling up at 8:45, but okay fine we were hungry and figured we would finish in that time anyway. The clams app and the lamb entree were excellent, the ribeye was overcooked and just okay. As we ate, 3 other couples came in and were seated without reservations or any time limit given to them which we found odd. By the time we finished there were NO other reservations that came in and the restaurant was the same level of busy as when we arrived. We found it extremely rude that we were most likely stereotyped as a younger casual couple who I guess they didn't think deserved service for dinner. This is the first bad service experience we have had like this in NZ, everywhere else we have eaten the staff has been polite and welcoming. In summary, the food was good but wouldn't recommend because of the service and how we were treated. read more
