Lentil burger noms
Josy A.

I really enjoyed our stop in Relishes Cafe. The view from the patio is gorgeous and the dishes we tried were seriously good. We tried: - The noodle salad with prawn skewers - The lentil burger with lots of tasty pickles and perfect bread They were quite light meals, made with fresh, good quality ingredients. Each one packed in fantastic flavours. This was just what we needed after a long hot drive to Wanaka. The only thing that could be better was the service. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly good either. We had to ask for water a few times before they remembered to bring some to our table. Then, I spent quite a long time waiting to pay as the staff were so busy chatting that they ignored me standing my the till. I guess they have such a good location that they'll always be busy no matter what the staff do.

OMG!!! We had brunch here and got Okinoyami (Japanese Vegetable Pancakes) and Mango turmeric smoothie bowl. Both of them were so unique, flavorful and delicious. This is by far our best meal in NZ so far. All of the other dishes were so unique that we were confused for the first 10 mins about what to order HIGHLY recommend this place if you want to try and experience non-standard breakfast fare.

A quaint little restaurant near the lake. The food was decent and the waiter was pretty nice. The salmon was pretty juicy and the soup it came with was quite good. The asian wonton was pretty meh and I would've rather just got some more noodles :)

Sunny and cheerful place, with very accommodating staff! We had custom vegetarian breakfasts with eggs, toast, spinach mushrooms and potato cakes. All well prepared and quick to arrive. And as a bonus their tip bowl was an artful stack of international coins around the rim.

This place was ok for breakfast but didn't have any wow factor in the two meals we shared hence the three stars rating. I ordered the salmon dish and felt that it was mostly potatoes. They should add an extra poached egg so that two eggs are included with the meal. Also the salmon portion should be increased. As for the taste it was just ok as mentioned in the intro. My wife went with the edamame dish which I also found just ok but my wife really liked. If you are a sweet tooth like us then you won't find anything yummy from the menu. We decided to eat dessert in Patagonia chocolat. Overall good place for breakfast but don't expect anything special from the food.

Wanaka's not a big place, but with only one morning to enjoy, we really wanted to find the best breakfast spot in town. So we asked our server at dinner the night before, and she didn't even take a moment to think before blurting out: "Relishes. No question. Best coffee and brekkie in Wanaka." So it was sorted. Thanks Yelp beta! And even with such high expectations, we were not disappointed. It's tough not to love the place immediately upon walking in - old pots and pans hang from the walls, a gorgeous display of home-baked goods (cinnamon rolls come to me now) sit on the bar and there's a stunning view across the lake from the wide open entrance. On this wintery morning, the 3 grain porridge with vanilla bean and brown sugar topped with hazelnuts and warm poached winter fruit (in cinnamon and star anise no less) was exactly what the doctor ordered. I didn't even try the coffee because the tea selection was too fantastic!

Banana bread with Greek yogurt and Hawea honey - the best breakfast dish in NZ
Travis W.

One of the better breakfasts I have had in NZ - on par with my breakfasts at Buffalo Cafe in Remeura, Auckland, NZ. We had: the banana bread with caramelized pineapple, Greek yogurt and Hawea honey; eggs Benedict with smoked salmon; bacon and eggs. The banana bread is some of the best I've ever had, and the pineapple, yogurt, and honey were perfect compliments - this is a 5 star dish. The eggs Benedict was great as well, and although the eggs weren't as runny as I'm used to, they were great - I actually preferred the way these eggs were poached so I also highly recommend this dish. The bacon and eggs, as simple as they are, were also delicious. Outside of food, the coffee was very good. The flat whites and long blacks are as good as any cafe in NZ - I've found that Kiwis take coffee very seriously and it really is hard to go wrong with coffee in this country. The ambience is also very warm and inviting - with a full wood fireplace, wood floors and tables, and simple decoration. All in all, great breakfast experience in this quaint cafe on lake Wanaka.

Very slow service and ditzy waitress.

Really slow service and ditzy waitstaff. People seated after us got their food before we got our drinks.

One of the coolest things about New Zealand is its emphasis on organic and locally sourced foods. I ordered the mushroom Eggs Benny and it was absolutely delightful. The eggs had an orangish yolk and were some of the freshest I have ever had. The mushrooms were roasted to perfection. My friends got a wintergreen salad and a ham and cheese croissant, both looked to die for. All in all eat at this cafe and you will definitely not be disappointed.

Dinner was excellent. Highly recommend the lamb which literally melted in my mouth. They also had a drizzle of two sauces, a baslamic and fennel oil. With a touch of deep fried capers, it was amazing. The waitress was a great conversationalist too. Wish I had more time to have another dinner there.

Flat white, just the right consistency.

We dropped in on an early Monday evening (just before 6:00pm) to take advantage of happy hour. The place is beautiful with a few tables outside to people watch and enjoy the lake view. Otherwise, there's tons of seating inside with hipster light bulbs, a fireplace and old vintage equipment as decor. The dinner menu is split into share plates, mains, sides and kids. The pasta of the day was a seafood linguini ($25.00 NZD). We saw a few mains come out to neighbouring tables that looked appetizing. Same with the coffee, which most tables ordered. There's also a separate dessert menu. The Alchemy dessert platter ($18.00 NZD) sounded promising. Nice touch with the complimentary sparkling and tap water. Only lame thing here is that wifi stops working at 6:00pm. Er... - Crater Rim Waipara riesling ($7.00 NZD) - sweet but not overly so. It's regular $11.00 NZD for a glass. - Soljan Estate Reserve Hawkes Bay syrah ($7.00 NZD) - a little drier finish. Decent. We only came for drinks but the food looked pretty legit. Chill, relaxed vibe.

Florence's Foodstore & Cafe - Such a wide variety to choose from!

Oh. my. goodness. Florence's is the best kept secret in all of Wanaka. This is a hidden gem and I…read moream so, so, so glad we discovered it! Myself and two friends were in Wanaka for the night staying at a nearby yurt. We stopped by That Wanaka Tree the next morning and decided to try to find breakfast on our way out of town (we were on a Camper Van adventure around the South Island). As always, Yelp led us to this magical paradise that is Florence's Foodstore & Cafe! So unassuming from the outside - particularly in the winter months - but once I stepped foot inside, I was greeted with this warm, homey feeling, among both a foodstore and cafe, that is not easy to do! I should note, it looks like the patio space would be quite a hit in the summer months. I was so taken aback by the delectable dishes in the display case and the assortment of teas, jams, mustards, etc. etc. around the store I almost missed the fact there is plenty of seating and even a fireplace to enjoy your meal(s) at!!! Once we took a second to collect ourselves from all the excitement, we ordered at the counter and had a seat at the table nearest the fireplace. I ordered the eggs benedict with salmon (eggs smoked salmon: sourdough toast, hollandaise) and a coffee (flat white, I'm sure). But, quite frankly, I wanted one of everything on the menu! What I ordered was simply melt in my mouth delicious and was delivered in a timely manner. Everything was SO good, we all ended up ordering something else to go (take away), for lunch later in the day. I ordered this amazing chicken salad on a croissant and a hot chocolate and even got my mom's souvenir from the foodstore portion of Florence's. If the foodstore wasn't great and if the cafe wasn't out of this world, then you must meet Florence for she is the true highlight of the place! Florence was so, so lovely - she ended up giving us suggestions for the remainder of our time on the South Island, much of which we followed and I'm glad we did as it made our journey that much more scenic. Florence - I cannot thank you enough! If you're in the Wanaka area, be sure to check out this place. They even host a high tea and community dinners throughout the month. Florence's is surely the place to be!!!

I placed my order and stepped away, my husband paid and a # was placed in front of him which he brought to our table. After a bit we were brought two cups of coffee when only one was ordered, the wait person was confused and walked away. We waited for the soda to be brought but after a wait we decided to go ask. My husband was treated rudely and was told that "he" took the wrong number and messed everything up! Although we are just passing through we would not come here again and would not recommend this place, there are far too many other eateries to choose from that will offer better service than Florence's. ~ Mona
