La Vida Restaurant - Seafood platter for two

Recently under new owners and decided to try it. One reason to come but definitely a great one,…read morethe seafood platter for two. The platter is huge, with oysters (probably the best item), clams, mussels, Moreton Bay Scallops, calamari with halloumi (probably the best non-fried calamari I've ever had), prawns (huge and very tasty), shoestring potatoes and a few other things that I don't remember but certainly enjoyed. Also, given their Tasmanian roots, some of the seafood is unique to La Vida rather than what you see at the other restaurants. This platter is definitely worth one of your evenings in Noosa.

Bugs. Moreton Bay or Balmain. Shovel Nosed Lobsters. The family Scyllaridae…read more I have loved these critters for ever. Up at Noosa Moreton Bay Bugs are a joy to behold, if you can find somewhere that be holdin' them. Problem is most places want to show off with my little guys and put them in a ravioli or turn them into some kind of foam or do something weird with them so that they aren't bugs any more. Not this place. It used to be called Lindonis I think - thats probably why I am the first to review it. Fact is its been here for twenty years, but for my 200th review I am happy to declare this place serves the best bugs this side of a dirty Chinese kitchen. BBQ'd with garlic and dill butter. Thats all. And eight, yep eight of the little bottom feeders! It takes very good chef to know that the produce is the star and not the cook. I remember an old mate once told me that in French cuisine the chef is the star and in Italian the food is the star. Here the bugs are the stars. We shared a plate of crumbed calarmari and a plate of veggies, which, because this place is classy, was called a 'stack'. The calarmari was sensational, even though it looked like the sort of meal you'd get at a suburban Pizza joint. I asked why they were so good and the owner told me they were fresh caught, marinated in kiwi fruit for just long enough to tenderise them but not so long as to cook them and that the crumb was a special Japanese technique known only to direct descendants of the Samurai Emperor Bugsansei. And I believe her. Left my phone at home 'cos up here you eat in boardies - your good ones for upmarket places and your old faves for the other places. Keeno has some photos which the kids may be able to upload to this review. I shouldn't even try or I will break something.

Exploring, & popping in for lunch drawn to its gorgeous upscale fit-out. Clean lines, Lots of dark wood, incandescent lighting, ceiling fans, retractable ceiling, and prominent surrounding plants and rock face. Ambience is relaxed, a nice way to have lunch. Service is excellent. Friendly, and ever-present, without being overbearing. Lunch Menu is divided into share plates ("Cicchetti"), Mains ("Pranzo"), as well as Salads & Pizza. Cicchetti & Pranzo prices ranged from $8-23, and $18 - $38 respectively. Start with some amazing sweet potato & pumpkin Gnocchi ($8), with buffalo ricotta, rosemary & sage cream. Unique & divine, available only at lunch. Follow it up with prosciutto & sage wrapped scallops with lemon parsley oil ($8). Another top-notch starter. Continue the gourmet experience with a Filetto di pesce. Snapper with Sicilian green olives, crispy kipfler potatoes, artichoke, white wine & saffron brodetto. Round off with some organic Acquerello Carnaroli saffron risotto, Moreton bay bug, & Gympie baby zucchini. Both mains, are "Wow"! But wait, there's more. If you have room for dessert, go straight to the heavens with the Bombolini. A hazelnut chocolate crème patissiere centred Italian doughnut, praline, & vanilla bean gelato. Add some Valrhona Chocolate fondant, cherry coulis heart, with Saffron gelato, & you have just completed one extraordinary lunch, both in taste & experience. Locale is a must-try if you want to treat yourself, to modern & upscale Italian cuisine. Definitely one of Noosa's gems on Hastings St. Open daily from 12pm.

Will someone please bring our brekky! Fifteen minutes to get…read moreserved and another fifteen minutes since, and we still haven't got our order! Never done a review in real time before but this is ridiculous! Righto - iced coffees have arrived and now Keeno's cappuccino has landed, each have been declared good so one star lifts to to two. Ten minutes later - still no brekky. Mr Douche (borrowed name from earlier review) tells us 'it's on the pass' in a manner that informs me precisely of his level of concern. 'Up your own pass'...I mutter to myself. The problem, Douche asserts, has been that they had a table of eleven. No ! Eleven ?? Presumably eleven whole people wanted some service and something to eat. Maybe a coffee. So why ignore the other twenty five people in the place? It must have stunned them into paralysis that so many people would choose to try and get fed at this dump. In retrospect, it seems like a mathematical quirk that at least 36 people who had never been here before - because this is a place you only go to once - would separately make the same mistake at the same time. OK - the wrap up; - D1's mushrooms are inedible. It's is impossible to burn mushrooms so the 'cook' (generously described) must have used a pan that he had already burnt something else in (possibly my bacon) and then added some sand or other grit to ensure they could not be eaten. I wondered if the delay might have been due to a trip down to the beach to get some sand? D2 thought it more likely that the mushies had not been properly cleaned and still had some dirt in them. She is a vegetarian who ate dirt when she was little, so I deferred to her better judgment. I took her plate back and spoke with Douche explaining that the forty minute wait should have been used to make something that people can actually eat. He responded very helpfully. He said 'Oh', and then took the plate away. -Keeno's muesli ? - "very ordinary, from a packet and a bit stale and dry" -D2? Ate her toast and jam without comment but that was probably because she was sulking after D1 scolded her about ordering bacon on the side. Which she ate, in silence. -My bacon and eggs with semi dried tomatoes? Burnt bacon, plain unseasoned scrambled eggs topped with two wilted basil leaves and no semi dried tomatoes. -GHB - ate none of the scrambled eggs at all. Dumbfounded. My first ever one star review.
