We had a great time at the annual 'gingerbread house' event at Relish. Our 11 and 18 year old grandsons decorated a gingerbread house from the supplied kit and decorated it with the supplied candy. We'll be back next year for sure! read more

I did the foraging experience at Merriam Vineyards in Healdsburg. It was a really fantastic experience overall, despite the downpour we found ourselves in. It was held at a beautiful winery and Healdsburg, and we were greeted with a glass of rosé. Donna was very communicative about the event, details and weather conditions before the event and engaging during the event. While she obviously couldn't control the weather, she was very effective at accommodating different comfort levels for walking in the rain. About half the group went back to the tasting room early. I stayed out with the group. Our guide David was extremely knowledgeable and fantastic at answering any and all questions. The lunch was both beautiful and tasty, and accommodated for both vegan and vegetarian needs. Overall a great day. I've already recommended it to several of my friends! read more

I learned the basics of key recipes, explored an array of herbs and gained awareness of many culinary and medicinal plants. All the culinary treats and beverages were delicious. The conversation invited lots of discussion for creative mixology, cooking and health. Wandering the farm, tasting and learning made it a perfect Sunday retreat. read more

Their facility is a class act. Very impressed with their cookware, cook tops and many cooking utensils. However it was way too crowded at the dining tables and some of the stations. The winemakers chosen to help pair their wines and cook alongside the students was great fun. (Some a lot more than others). Next time (if they repeat this event), they should announce who these winemakers are well before the evening of the event. Most of us attending are locals, not tourists. They need to improve on details. Each station was not equipped with towels, potholders or a means to clean the knives. Had to constantly reach out to staff for these items. In addition, it would have been a nicer touch to light the tea lights on the tables and have cloth napkins at each setting instead of cheap paper ones (waste). I have attended many other cooking classes at other facilities and feel Relish needs to make some major improvements before I sign up again. read more

An absolutely wonderful experience, from start to finish. We gathered on a crisp winter morning in Sonoma, took a gentle hike led by some of our area's leading mushroom experts, and then enjoyed a delicious outdoor feast, on a terrace overlooking vineyards, featuring many different (and surprising) kinds of mushrooms. We went on a farmers market tour and lunch time cooking class recently. What a wonderful experience!! Meeting farmers and vendors, selecting beautiful produce, then learning some new kitchen tricks was just part of the fun. We then got to enjoy the fruits of our labor, eating incredible food! I went to my first event here in December and enjoyed every minute of it! We decorated gingerbread houses as a group! It was a blast and we had 5 people and all did our individual sides. Oh, I should add that the 5th person was a almost 2 year old so he was happy just eating the candy! There was definitely enough types of candy to decorate with and eat! They also served home made hot chocolate to die for! We are going to try to make this an annual event! read more

We attended the Wild Mushroom Foray & Demonstration Lunch last Sunday. It is now one of my favorite adventure experiences...learning from experts in the field, tromping around the picturesque hills of Anderson Valley foraging around like an adult easter egg hunt, and then enjoying a gourmet menu with tastes and textures of many varieties of mushrooms, all paired with lovely wines. Attended a Yelp event that included an informal cooking class of quick do-it-yourself snacks. The kitchen is well laid out, as one would expect from a facility that earns its cash from cooking classes and event catering. The owner is a high energy engaging and funny gal. Instantly likeable. Her husband owns MacPhail wines (Tasting room located in the Sebastopol Barlow complex). He was in house, pouring two very good pinot noirs. The cooking class schedule shows that the price range to create a single dish is in the $79 - $100+ range. For me, a retired senior citizen cheapskate, that seems a bit high for a 90 minute session. But then again that's the price range for a Sur la Table cooking class - Though at that price Sur la Table often creates an entire meal. If you are a Healdsburg tourist and want to do more than just shop the plaza and drink wine, Relish can offer you an interactive fun experience. read more

Fresh. Ricotta. Room-temp, simply salted, creamy, perfect. I've never had just-made ricotta and now I'm afraid all else pales in comparison. Must learn how to make it. :) It opened up visions of a Tuscan breakfast complete with coffee, crusty bread and the honey-drizzled ricotta . Thank you Relish, and Yelp, for introducing me to one another. I'm a fan of cooking classes so my first Yelp Elite experience here couldn't have been more enjoyable. I got to socialize as well as prepare a variety of foods, all the while learning about the items I was using in the appetizers. Great spot in Healdsburg but it was made even better by an awesome owner/instructor, Donna. She clearly loves what she does and is knowledgeable to boot. Fantastic! read more

My husband and I received the Mushroom Foray event at Relish as a Christmas gift from our children. I have done this adventure before and was eager for my husband to have the experience. Even though the mushrooms were few we had a wonderful time outside hiking and foraging at Notre Vue Winery. This class is great because foraging experts and chefs gave an intense informative mini talk about everything mushrooms! We went back to Relish and were served a beautiful unique lunch with wine accompaniment some which came from Notre Vue. The mushroom dishes are unique and creative and the best part was being able to watch the chef cook and prepare the dishes right in front of us! Relish owner, Donna Reyes does not disappoint. I attended a mushroom foray and wild mushroom lunch created by chef Julie Schreiber at Relish. We foraged on a wonderful property owned by a winery and then continued back to Relish for a 4 course lunch and wine pairing. I need to say that I felt the whole day was amazing. It is unfortunate that there were basically no mushrooms to be found due to the dry conditions we are experiencing in Sonoma County right now. The walk on the winery property was a treat. Once back at Relish we were treated to a cooking display on how to cook wild and domestic mushrooms. Julie talked us through the various ways of cooking 5 types of mushrooms. We then got to taste them all along with our yummy salad. The main course was a generous helping of short ribs, polenta, and broccolini along with black trumpet mushrooms. We were poured 3 different Balverne wines.....Prosecco, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. All paired wonderfully with the food....then we were served a yummy cake with candy cap creme anglaise (candy caps are wild mushrooms as well.) My friend and I felt royally treated. The experience was well worth the price charged. We talked about bringing our husbands next time. read more

What an absolutely ridiculously fun time! We are here with a church group visiting the area, and we somehow got hooked in with the lovely people of Breathless winery (go check out their awesome tasting and bottling room tour!!!) and had an amazingly fun competition. He had about 25 people, split into teams, and with the help of the staff and the head chef, all made little tapas dishes to share with the whole group! What was even greater was the addition of breathless sparkling wines not only to drink, but to use with and in our dishes! This is a great place to have a work event, bachelorette party, or just to learn some new techniques! I highly recommend Relish to groups coming to visit! Bon appetite!!! read more

My friends and I attend the On the Farm: Dinner at Dry Creek Peach & Produce recently and had fabulous time! We had a fascinating tour of Gayle & Brian Sullivan's Dry Creek Peach Orchard. Dinner was in the orchard strung with lights. Fabulous food prepared by John Ash (yes, John Ash) and his staff, which featured Gayle's gorgeous peaches. And wonderful wine pairing from Bella Wines. We went to a special Yelp Mashup version of the Culinary Adventures put on by owner Donna and her team. She explained that there are a lot less people than the 50 we had today so you make a full sit down dinner together. That sounds like a lot of fun. I really would like to do the mushroom foraging that we missed due to the rain. We made spring rolls, Lavash bread and mushroom tarts, YUM! We also had some lovely wines, a sav blanc from Longboard and two Pinots from McPhall's (Somona Coast and Pratt Vineyard). Double Yum! An authentic culinary experience. I love the word "relish" and this place is a true contender to the meaning. Here you can test your chops at being a better, gourmet, home chef. That afternoon it was a fungi extravaganza, we learned about mushrooms of many varieties, we embellished (another favorite word) mundane lavash flatbread & made a hero out of it with brushes of olive oil, grated dry mushroom, thyme, Parmesan cheese, sea salt. Baked for 7 minutes. There, I gave out a recipe. We moved on to a mushroom tart, and then a Asian veggie roll. They had a participant making fresh ricotta cheese that was delish & pure. All this while being instructed by the chef and a couple of overhead monitors for not to be missed instructions. We munched,chatted & drank some great complementary wines. A Pinot Noir by MacPhail vineyards, Sauvignon Blanc by Longboard vineyards. The place is immaculate, well designed, down to the bathroom. They have on going classes big & small & they even go out & forage for mushrooms but that afternoon the glorious rain prevented it. In summary, this place rocks & the people that run the joint are humble, knowledgeable & generous. I'm excited to take another class, very soon. read more

I have taken three classes at Relish Culinary and enjoyed each one. I agree with a previous reviewer: carefully read the course description to ensure the class meets your expectations, i.e. demonstration vs. hands-on. I'm the hands-on type, and the Relish staff does a great job of facilitating an enjoyable and successful experience, while letting participants do the work so we all learn important technique. The class I took most recently was making gifts for the holidays, and each participant took home five home-made, beautifully packaged gifts: lavender limoncello, pecan brittle, rosemary pine-nut biscotti, home-made vanilla extract, and vanilla sugar. I took the class along with my 13 year old daughter and it was a great mother-daughter experience. read more

Enjoyed a wonderful hosted Yelp event here and was extremely impressed by all involved. There were three DIY stations with a lavosh cracker bread, mushroom tarte, and spring rolls. All stations were surprising simple and made me extremely excited to cook some of the recipes at home. Met with the owner and many of the staff and was impressed with their vast knowledge in the culinary world, whether it be knife cuts or how to obtain a specific umami taste in a dish. Grabbed a flyer on the way out to make sure I sign up for a future class to expand my culinary mind and skill. read more

Very disappointed in the mushroom foraging class. Half of the class was spent outdoors looking for specimens, but there was very little guidance on edible species. After this class, I do not feel confident looking for wild mushrooms on my own. Back in the kitchen. Participants just sat while the cooks did all the work for the cooking demonstration. While the food and wine was tasty, there was no hands-on portion for the cooking class. Basically, we just paid for a expensive lunch and left at the end with some recipes in hand - definitely NOT my definition of a "culinary adventure". read more

We took our 18 yr old daughter to the farmers market class before she took off to college. It was an excellent activity. We learned a lot about the local farmers and the history of Healsburg area as well. THe food was delicious and we used some ingredients that we were not familiar with in the class. We are avid home chefs but we did learn a few new things. Donna was very patient and welcoming and the staff at the cooking school was very helpful. The meal we prepared was delicious and yet simple to make. It was very healthy and we appreciate all the prep that went into making this event successful. read more

However, would have liked to learn more from the chef through the farmer's market about the food we would be making instead of having him just buy a bunch of produce for his restaurant that we wouldn't get to taste. For my birthday, friends and I rented a house in Napa. We had Chef Anne Cornell and her terrific assistant Larry Kimmel come to the house to do a cooking class for me and my friends. The five of us are pretty seasoned cooks, so while we were looking forward to a cooking class, we weren't so sure we'd learn too much. We were wrong! We all learned a lot and Anne's friendly and creative approach to cooking (she ended up including the fresh figs growing on the trees at our rental house on the menu) was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious and not overly complicated. Larry and Anne cleaned everything up. We were left with a wonderful memory and menus for all of the dishes we cooked. Great space! I took the Soups, Stocks and Stews class with Chef Jack Herron and Donna who is the perfect host. It was fun, interesting and I learned a lot. We broke into three groups and each worked on a separate dish. When completed, we all sat down and shared our yummy creations together.
