We have used Reliable Tree Care for several years. They will send someone out to give you assessments and costs of services. They have trimmed our trees and have done a great job. The trees look esthetically nice after trimming. They are fast and cleaned up after they were done. read more

They came to my property and provided an estimate, they told me to get work done by May and June, for two pines, one a 40' high Scotch pine that was 20 years old. Three lower branches were dead but he said we could save the tree. I was out of town for several months and called in April to schedule May's first treatment, and was told it was too early yet. I called in May and was told it was still too early, I was assured that they would call me as soon as they were ready to treat. I returned July 1st to a completely dead tree, called them and was told they couldn't find my files and that I "must have dropped between the cracks..." I said a valuable tree was completely dead because of their incompetency and now it would cost me $500.00 to remove it. I asked if they were still planning on coming to treat the other tree and what would the cost be since they killed one of the trees. Was told the cost would probably be about the same, even though one tree was dead, and no discount for the other tree to make up for it. They sent someone by to assess the tree, he called to inform me that the tree was dead (uh, yeah) and to let them know what I wanted to do. I didn't return the call because of the obvious, when suddenly, two weeks after this I walked out to see liquid dripping from the dead tree. They were treating the dead tree! I asked them what they were doing and he said trying to save the tree... I said, is it not obvious that it is completely dead?! Stop what you're doing, don't dare try to charge me and tell your office that they have failed miserably. They never contacted me to try to remedy this disaster. They were responsible for killing a beautiful tree worth hundreds of dollars and they did nothing. read more

It saddens me to have to make this review but I feel obligated to put other prospective customers on the alert. When removing a large aspen tree from our property last summer, a limb fell, damaging a shrub. They offered to replace it and I foolishly said I would try to help it survive saving them the trouble and expense. As it happened, the shrub died and I called to ask that they honor their word. They declined. They told me that they would not because when one of their people came to my house to give me a bid on some work to be done, the worker cut off a branch of the shrub which apparently eliminated the option to replace it.!! They are nice people with qualified arborists but integrity is important. I am just glad that the limb did not damage my roof or my car!!! read more

My neighbor and I share a very old, very tall maple tree in our back yards. It's at least 50 years old and never been pruned so there was a lot of dead and useless branches that needed to be cleaned out. I hired Reliable Tree Care to do this job and to prune my two front yard trees, a Canadian Redbud and a Red Emperor maple that were growing into each other. We couldn't have been more pleased with the job these guys did. The assistant at Reliable kept me informed as to the time they would arrive and they were right on time. They took great care cutting the branches off the backyard maple so no damage was done to the fence that separated our properties. The also did a great job on my front trees, shaping the redbud into a dome shape and trimming the maple so they no longer run into each other. I supervised all work and they were very courteous, with great customer service. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. read more

Good skill, very poor business manners. The date of my tree pruning was pushed back and pushed back because they were putting Christmas lights ahead of me on their schedule. They finally arrived (double the length of time they had originally scheduled) and didn't complete the task as discussed during my consultation. They cited the contract and faulted me for not noting one branch specifically on the written contract that I wanted cut even though it was clear in the conversation and mentioned many times. I asked them about the branch when I noticed they were packing up and they said to call the office. It would've taken maybe 15 minutes with their gear, but they just finished packing up and left. So, if you don't mind them showing up three months late, just make sure you have every single branch written into your contract! read more

Jim is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable arborists I've had the pleasure of working with. He knows the trees. He cares, and he and his company have lots of experience in providing solutions to Utah problems, and keeping great old trees thriving. If you want good top notch local advice, they're great. If you want a more "corporate" service that comes on a set schedule, with no care for the changes in weather and disease from year to year, then maybe their service is not for you. I will also say that they are reasonable to work with, and have always dealt fairly with me. read more

This company is not reliable. They came out and diagnosed the tree and told me they would spray it. This tree is 4 stories tall that overhangs plants on my deck and produce growing of which i sell, eat, and give to family. I do not use chemicals on my plants and let everyone know my plants are chemical free. I told the arborist i wanted to be present during the spraying so i can cover up the plants i don't want chemicals on. After about 10 times of stressing how important this was he finally wrote knock on door. I was home the day he sprayed but no one knocked and found out he had been here because there was a bill on my door. I called to find out why and they told me their people do a good job and have the proper equipment and they knew he was there because they had gps in their cars and a monitor in their chemical tank so pay up. I am writing this because they do not care my plants were no longer chemical free, only that they got their money. I called legal aid and they said i would have to prove they did not spray. I obviously can't do this since the company made sure i wasn't there during the spraying. I don't have a problem paying them i have a problem with their lack of ethics. If you choose this company make sure you write in detail what you want done on the contract and don't let them tell you that you don't need to write it because the arbor will tell the sprayer. I should have wrote: must knock on door so i am present during the spraying or i will not pay this bill." I believe business should SHOW they care about their customers, this company just speaks it. read more

Monumentally dishonest. I lived in an urban area where there was no street parking available. I came home from a climbing outing and found Reliable Tree Care blocking my driveway. I left (went to the bank) and came back hoping they would be out of the way, they were not and I had to park illegally on the corner for a minute while I let them know it was time to go. I asked nicely three or four times for them to leave the property (they didn't tell us they were going to be there, they were using my hand tools, and my car top cargo box was damaged). The employee, who was just dragging a leaf rake through a thin layer of snow for some reason, refused repeatedly and eventually he called the boss over. The supervisor refused to leave and wanted know what "my problem was". As the argument heated he called over the rest of his crew in a threatening manner. I told him if it was going to be like that he was going to get himself shot (yeah I'm from Utah, I believe in the second amendment and I was being threatened on my own property). Well the tough guy backed off at that and they pulled back to their work truck parked two houses down; obviously not really worried about getting shot as they were in plain view... I moved their barricades, pulled my truck into the driveway from where it was illegally parked on the corner and went inside. I came back out to unload the rest of my climbing gear and was met by Salt Lake Police who arrested me for felony assault. They asked me if I had any firearms and threatened to get a warrant if I didn't let them in my home and surrender my antique pistol. Luckily the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor and eventually dismissed but it cost me about $2000; the mark on my record continues to cause me difficulty. Reliable Tree Care's mischaracterization of the event and the damage they caused to our home and property cost them nothing at all. What I believe happened to cause this man to behave the way he did: Reliable Tree Care was working for my neighbors when his crew dropped several limbs on my home, window mount air-conditioner, rain gutters and my car top box in the driveway. I believe this because when I returned from jail the next day I found that the window framing around the air-conditioner was damaged, the expensive aluminum roofing on our home was damaged and the rain-gutter on the back of the house was bent down 90 degrees; there was evidence tree limbs had been dragged over all of it. I believe instead of owning up to what his crew did he pulled the crew off and had one guy block my driveway until he could finish the tree he was working on and come do damage control. Do not hire these people if you are concerned about your property being respected. Do not hire these people if you believe in your right to bare arms. Do not hire these people if you believe in freedom of speech. There are plenty of other tree services in the phone book, I'm sure none of them are perfect but they'd likely be a better choice than an outfit that handles things the way Reliable Tree Care Does. read more
