The hotel room was clean and really nice, mini fridge and microwave, large flat screen tv etc. The location is also located near many places to eat within walking distance. (They offer free parking) garage behind the hotel, there is a small amount of street parking which I utilized the entire weekend, much closer to the front entrance and convenient for loading and unloading bags/luggage. The only downside was a wedding reception was scheduled in the ball room located directly under our second floor room, the music was loud!! I didn't want to complain because it was Saturday night but it was too loud for other paying guests to endure. After informing the front desk and asking if the bass could be turned down a little, they did so. Again, really nice hotel with nice accommodations and nice staff. I would stay here again.

The attendant wiped off the table beside them, but left the pills. We threw them away before any children could get them. While we were at breakfast, house keeping had entered our rooms and was stripping beds before we had even checked out. As we are checking out, there was still dried blood on the floor. There was obviously little to no effort to clean it up. If they can't clean up blood borne pathogens in a highly trafficked area, what exactly do they clean??

There are some good things about this hotel. It's generally clean and well maintained. The front…read moredesk folks are generally friendly and helpful (with one exception we'll get to in a minute). It's within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and attractions, and very close to multiple bus lines and the blue line train. There's a lot of storage and space in the room, and having a kitchen is super convenient (don't count on the dishes being clean though, you'll want to re-wash them yourself). The fitness center is very nice and has a lot of options - treadmills, rower, Peloton bike, free weights, etc. And the breakfast area has plenty of seating, so even during crowded times you can find a table. My boyfriend and I were in town to run a race that started and finished at First Ward Park, which is just a couple blocks away, so that was super convenient. But then there's the not so good - the annoying, the bad, and the really bad. First the annoying - you'll notice in the marketing materials for this hotel the frequent appearance of waffles. On the booking site, in photos in the elevator, and even on the walls in the breakfast area. And multiple waffle makers seem to have a permanent place on the counter in the breakfast area. Based on that you would assume there would be waffles at least sometimes at the provided breakfast. You would assume wrong. After being disappointed in the lack of waffles two mornings in a row, and hearing other people ask about them each morning, we asked the breakfast attendant when there might be waffles. Her exact answer: "We have waffles on Fridays and Mondays." Except we there on both a Friday and a Monday, and no there wasn't. Not a single waffle on any of the four mornings we were there. Waffle makers, yes, but never batter to put in them. So if you're deciding between this hotel and another and those photos of waffles at breakfast are luring you into choosing this hotel, beware - there will never be waffles. The bad - the beds aren't great. My boyfriend and I had a king bed, which was handy since we needed the extra room to avoid a spring poking up on one side. And instead of a few different firmness options for pillows they were all the same thin at bedtime and flat as a pancake by morning variety. As a side sleeper, I found one way too thin, and even stacking two together was uncomfortably flat by morning. The comforter and top sheet also barely covered the top of the bed, so with two people underneath it it didn't even fully reach the edges. But then we get to the bathroom. My blood pressure is rising just thinking back to the bathroom. The three lights in the bathroom (over the sink, over the toilet, and over the shower) are all on a motion sensor that you cannot turn off or disable in any way. So if you get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and don't want the lights on to wake you up, too bad. They're all going to come on blindingly bright and jolt you wide awake. But then in the morning, when you'd like them to stay on while you're in the shower, too bad. The sensor apparently doesn't reach the shower end of the bathroom, so your options are either showering in the dark or opening the shower door to wave your arm out to re-trip the sensor every 60 seconds. And you're going to be in that shower for a while, because the water pressure is not great. Slightly more than a trickle, so washing the conditioner out of your hair will take multiple rounds of arm waving if you don't want to be in the dark. And you're going to need to sacrifice one of your hand towels to put at the bottom of the shower, otherwise the trickle of water hitting the metal drain under the showerhead is going to drive you crazy. You can't move the showerhead away from it, and it sounds like someone is banging non-stop on a metal pan right in your ear. And whoever you share a room with can witness all this, since the sliding door to the bathroom has a good inch of a gap between it and the wall and you can see right in when you walk past. We stopped by the front desk after our first night to ask if there was some trick we hadn't discovered to turn off the motion sensor for the lights at night. The reaction of the woman behind the desk? She laughed. Apparently many people have complained about this, but instead of trying to make the situation better they think it's a funny joke? Not the reaction we were expecting. So, despite the good things this hotel has going for it, the main two things I want out of a hotel are good sleep and a good shower, and I didn't get either here. I definitely won't be making a return stay the next time I'm in Charlotte.

I appreciate the ladies letting us grab some breakfast, even as they were clearing out the counters. Our elders don't rise early when we travel. And the continental selection was great. Eggs weren't too runny for a hotel buffet.

Came for the Room... Left Remembering Anthony Logan…read more Let's start with the important part: Anthony Logan at the front desk deserves a raise. Seriously, Hilton, don't let this one get away. By the time I arrived, I had been awake since 2:00 a.m., hadn't eaten, hadn't had coffee (which should probably qualify as a medical emergency), and it was 13 hours later. Transportation had been an absolute dumpster fire, and I walked into the hotel somewhere between "mildly irritated" and "one inconvenience away from being featured on a viral airport meltdown video." Then I met Anthony. Within minutes, this man had me from a Level 20 angry down to a full-on woo-sah. His positivity is so contagious it should probably come with a CDC advisory. He greeted me with a huge smile, made me laugh, answered every question without missing a beat, and somehow convinced my brain that maybe humanity wasn't doomed after all. Anthony is the definition of exceptional customer service. He's friendly without being fake, knowledgeable without making you feel clueless, and genuinely enjoys helping people. You can tell he doesn't just check guests in--he changes the trajectory of their day. If you've had a miserable travel experience, Anthony is the human equivalent of finding an extra fry at the bottom of the bag... only way better. Now, the hotel itself definitely deserves credit too. The rooms are modern, clean, and surprisingly spacious. The bed is comfortable enough that I considered setting a second alarm just so I could ignore it twice. The armchair and desk chair are actually comfortable (a rare hotel achievement), and there are USB ports and outlets everywhere you need them--not hidden behind furniture like you're on a scavenger hunt. The refrigerator and microwave are always appreciated, especially after a long day of traveling, and the lighting gives the room a sleek, modern feel. One of my favorite features? The window shades. You can go full sunshine, a light-filtering shade for privacy while still letting daylight in, or complete blackout mode if you want to pretend the world doesn't exist until checkout. Overall, this is a fantastic Hilton Garden Inn with comfortable rooms and thoughtful amenities. But if I'm being honest, Anthony Logan is the hotel's greatest amenity. Only complaint is that when my room was cleaned they did not replenish the water, coffee, cups, sugar, or bathroom essentials, this happened twice and I left a good tip, oh well. I'm cutting and pasting highlights from my email to the management here: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Someone from Wyndham called me a couple days before my trip to confirm my reservation and see if I had any special needs. I asked for a late checkout. The woman told me she couldn't guarantee a late checkout, that I would have to ask the hotel when I checked in and that there might be charge for it. I asked about the late checkout when we checked in on 9/30. The person who checked me in said she saw it in the reservation and she even knew the time I requested, 1:30. She said we were all set. On 10/5, at 11:07 I went down to the front lobby. We were gone for maybe 15 minutes. When we got back the housekeeper was in the room, the bed was completely stripped and all of our belongings were gone. I left my phone, purse, laptop and jewelry on the bed. My tablet was charging on the nightstand and my luggage was packed. At no time did anyone attempt to contact us to ask us to vacate. We were understandably upset to find ourselves kicked out of our room with no notice. My husband was rude to the front desk manager and cursed at her. That's when she trespassed us from the property and threatened to call the police. I was simply trying to get my belongings in order so we could leave. Whoever collected my stuff threw it all into my overnight bag. I wanted to make sure everything was accounted for. I think that's reasonable. My husband apologized to the front desk manager and she apologized to him. She said we could stay in the lobby until our 1:30 ride to the airport. She was still adamant that there was no late checkout and no note indicating we had one. She said they didn't even allow late checkouts so I don't know why we were told we were "all set." I am well aware that hotels can't always accommodate late check outs. I'm at a loss as to how this situation escalated to a situation where I was literally removed from my room less than a half an hour past the check out time of 11:00. A simple conversation with me would have resolved the situation with far less drama. Having to check out sooner would have left me unhappy, but not feeling violated with strangers rifling through my personal belongings. It was a shameful way to treat hotel guest and something I hope they don't do to other guests. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I didn't want to write a bad review for this hotel and my main complaint was how I was treated the day we checked out - deplorable. But here are some other highlights.... 1) The giant cockroach in my room. 2) We were in room 228, that's right next to the ice machine - this was supposed to be an upgrade and I paid for an "executive king" for my whole stay, despite not having one for two of the five nights I was there. Nothing like hearing workers fill up their coolers at 5 am. 3) The only difference between a king and an executive king was a sofa tucked into a blind corner with no windows or view of the TV. The only thing back there was the cockroach. 4) The first TV in the first room we had (326), everyone was blue. The person at the front desk said that meant the TV was going out - said we'd get a replacement, that didn't happen so I asked for new room, the "upgrade." 5) No hair conditioner in the second room. Just the cockroach. I would say don't stay here except the employees are awesome. Just check out on time and bring bug spray. Rooms: 1/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 4/5 Rooms Minimal - not nice at all. Beds are very mushy. Someone mistakenly decided that mushy pillow mattress toppers on the bed would make them more comfortable. They do not. Nearby activities close to a grocery store and quite a few places to eat Walkability very walkable Food & drinks advertises as having a "bar." It kind of looks like a bar and there's a pool table there, which is nice, but the bartender is also the front desk person. They only have 4 types of beer and Cupcake wine. But it's open until 10 and the front desk person/bartender is super nice. Leave her a nice tip. Noteworthy details I don't think I need to mention the cockroach again, but I will.
