We were very lucky to reserve a room in this small B&B located along the Piazza Navona. Although the Relais Al Senato does not offer the luxury of a resort hotel, it is a wonderful value with a great location.
The room is of good size for Rome. The bed offers a firm mattress, and there is adequate space to hang clothes in the closet and to set up ones suitcase. The bathroom is quite good, with a toilet and bidet and a shower (no bathtub). I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no noise from the lively piazza. Although the room offers limited amenities (soap and shampoo is provided but without conditioner or lotion), this is a wonderful respite from a long day of sight seeing.
Light breakfast is served daily from 0800-1000. The coffee is superb and might even be better than you will find at a cafe (this cup of coffee alone might be worth waking up!). Breakfast includes a croissant with a selection of butter, jam, honey and Nutella, Corn Flakes or granola, yogurt, fruit and orange juice and milk (and coffee or tea). After breakfast throughout the day one can help himself to water, juice or milk in the refrigerator and fruit, biscuits and cake on the table. And, of course, there is never a shortage of gelaterias nearby!
The door to the Relais al Senato is very discreet. The location is on the second floor above ground level behind a green door on an alley into the Piazza Navona. Do not bother giving the name of the B&B or the address to your taxi driver. Simply tell him to take you to the Piazza Navona and you will find your way on foot. You will need to be in contact with the Relais al Senato about your arrival time as the management is usually gone by 1500 (3:00pm).
The Relais al Senato is a wonderful place to stay in Rome for its superb location and modest price. Although this B&B is without great luxuries or amenities, it is an honest place to spend a few good nights in Rome. read more
