So I looked into Wellspring of Life Acupuncture in Riverhead, Long Island... 45 minutes by car from my house. Of course, just as the treatment center in Manhattan, they couldn't take my insurance. Anyway, I decided to give it a try. Melissa Peters has studied Chinese medicine in NYC and California for years. Her office is in a small strip mall off of Old Country Road, right across the street from Target. It is a pleasant office and the treatment rooms are clean, modern, with piped in New Age music, and very comfortable. Naturally I am a little wary of acupuncture therapists who are not from China. My first treatment was an evaluation session. What kind of therapy was eventually decided upon...and I must admit, after three once a week sessions I feel much better. Much better. To be 100% honest, the lower back pain has gone from a pain scale of 5 to....2 . My energy has increased dramatically. My knees are much less cranky. I wanted to take an affordable workout class that wasn't this overstimulated loud experience like Barry's Bootcamp or SoulCycle, so I ended up giving this class a try. The class is located inside the Ed & Phyllis Davis medical office where they have a workout room full of every kind of workout gear you could need. The class consisted of around 10-12 people, but there was enough space for everyone to spread out and move. The class members consisted of women in their 40s-60s, with a few in their 70s. Still, the class was easy to modify and either amp up or take at your own pace. This workout focused on movements around a bosu ball, using hand weights as well. The music was fun and the pace was well timed. Price per class is either $25 per class or $100 for the month unlimited, which is an absolute steal. Highly recommend!

It took over a month, but I was finally able to book an appointment. I arrived to my appointment today a few minutes early to find the door locked. I was walking away assuming they were closed when the woman came to the door and opened it. I had been hitting a vape while headed back to the car, and she immediately went into a lecture on how she doesnt allow "smoking" because "she is very sensitive to smoke". Confused, I replied that I dont smoke, and obviously had no intention of smoking in her building... and her reply, verbatim, was: "What are you, stupid?" I wished her a good day and left. I have never been spoken to by a business in such a ridiculous way. I cannot NOT RECOMMEND this place enough.

They told me it would take 24 to 48 hours to know if I was approved. After 3 days of not hearing back, I called them and they brushed me off saying they had not heard back. I tried again in five days with the same result. After more than a week there was no word, so I called them a third time. Their response, "Oh, you were not approved." So I asked why didn't you call me? "Oh, we just heard." What a bunch of BS. I told these people that I had recently moved to the area and they were recommended by someone. I also told them that I was in pain and needed to see someone. They did not care in the least! They never offered that I could pay cash for my first visit while they run my insurance. They just hung up. I have never been treated this way by a medical office. Luckily, I found another provider and my insurance was approved within the hour.
