Went into REI ready to buy new hiking boots and left without trying on a single pair. I stood in the boot section waiting for help while an employee nearby chatted with what appeared to be her friends instead of assisting customers. When I asked another employee for help, she barely stopped walking, pointed back to the same girl, and dismissed me without even listening to what I needed. As someone who has worked in sales for years, I was honestly shocked at how quickly and rudely I was brushed off. Really disappointing experience. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I read an article about mosquito sprays in Consumer Reports that Ben's 30% DEET was their pick for best mosquito repellent. I searched retailers and couldn't find any in stock online or in-store except at REI which is located in Mid City. I don't know if people really like the product or maybe the manufacturer doesn't produce enough for inventory to be on shelves. We committed to helping a friend maintain their pool and I knew I had to buy mosquito repellent. We went to REI which is a camping type of store. I do not camp do the only thing I was interested in was the Ben's. Apparently this store has a membership program that I was not interested in hearing about as I do not camp. I found Ben's by the front entrance. So lucky! The store has a variety of gear at prices higher than other nationally known stores. I went to pay and was asked if I was a card holder and I said I am not and I am not interested in being one. I paid for my Ben's and snd the sales clerk handed me my purchases back. I asked for a printed receipt and a bag. I didn't want my receipt emailed. The lady told me they were going green or are green, I can't remember. I asked her if I am to walk out of the store holding the products and she said yes. I felt eyes on me as we left. I was glad they had the product. Many mosquitoes tried to land on us while we are maintaining the pool but they left. Ben's works very well. read more

I came to REI to pick up an online order. REI offers a lifetime membership for $30 which gives you annual rewards. I don't know if this was a special deal or if it's ongoing, but you get a $30 reward when purchasing the membership - so it kind of works out to be free (if you don't overthink it). Anyway, I now had $30 to spend in store. We were heading to Yellowstone the following week and I thought a day pack would be a great thing to spend my reward on. So, I'm roaming the store and decide on a Northface pack. As I'm walking to the register, an employee stops me and asks if I needed any help. I said no but then she asked me if I saw the packs on the other side of the store. (I hadn't). We discuss my needs then she proceeded to show me each one, telling me the pros and cons of each. Unlike most stores, I didn't feel like she was trying to up-sale me. Yes some packs were higher in price but others were lower than the one I selected. We took them over to a counter where she pulled out a weighted bag. She stuffed the bag into a pack and walked me to a mirror. She showed me how to adjust each pack so it fit me correctly. We probably spent close to an hour trying on and adjusting packs. In the end, I ended up buying the original Northface but now I have a much better understanding of how to use and how to wear a daypack. I was just so impressed with the customer service offered. I knew I'd be back anyway but now REI will be my first place to look for outdoor equipment and clothing. Next stop ... Yellowstone!! read more

I am impressed with the customer service we recieved. I brought my 88 year old mother in to look at hiking poles. We hope that hiking poles will help her remain active and help strengthen her shoulder after surgery. There was quite a large selection to choose from. The lady who assisted us understood the assignment and quickly fitted my mother with a lightweight pair of poles. She even recommended rubber tips to make sure she wasn't annoyed by the sound of the tips hitting the pavement. Very thankful for the product knowledge and care shown to us during our visit. read more

LOVE REI! I pulled in when I saw it from the highway. We don't have one anywhere near where I live now. This store didn't disappoint! It looks like it's in a newer area, and I'd guess the same from the inside of the store. It's we'll layer out, with everything you'd come to expect. read more

I was incredibly turned off by the cul her like attendant at the front of the store. We were basically blocked from walking in and forced to listen to their sales pitch about getting a membership. Also, after seeing the prices of stuff that you can easily buy anywhere else or online for a fraction of the cost... I'm pretty sure that will be the last time I ever walk into an REI. read more

Man, I loved REI in Seattle. One of my favorite places, but this location wasn't good. They have hardly any sizes, and everything was more that other outfitter stores. The had REI clothing "on sale" but it was basically "normally" they say as expensive as the brand names but you can get them 30 dollars off if you join their club so they sales people (who relentlessly get you to sign up for it) tell you "so it basically pays for itself"... um no it doesn't , I wouldn't be paying that price for the knock off brand to begin with. 1 star for good location, but I won't be back. Face mask gestapo wouldnt allow me to shop in the store because I was wearing a medically approved full face shield instead of a face mask. I tried to explain that my shield was legal and recommended by my doctor but she insisted I couldnt shop unless I wore the paper mask she provided. Her priority seemed to be obedience, not public heath. I'll spend my mother elsewhere. read more

Five stars for service! Doing very late Christmas shopping. We called on Sunday before Christmas, asked if they could ship to Canada. The sales clerk initially thought not but immediately checked with her manager. Went to the store, stood in line briefly as they were careful about the number of people due to Covid. Found multiple items, the manager took our information and informed us that REI would pay customs. Did not expect that! I jokingly asked if it would get there tomorrow, the manager laughed then said let me look. Well, the very large package got to Canada on Christmas Eve just like she said it would! I am not enough of an outdoorsman to comment on the various products and manufacturers but there was a wide variety, even more online . Also, the sales people were very helpful and knowledgeable. Joining the co-op is inexpensive, only $20 for a lifetime membership, but not necessary to purchase items. No yearly fees. Would recommend to anyone needing outdoor items. read more
