For years, I've been working out of Starbucks, first at the Y, and then in Dripping. I've been searching for the perfect place to work that's not my home office (cats!) that entire time. Last month, I found "The Workplace" (attheworkplace.com) and I met Thomas the owner. The facility and amenities here are first-rate, and the price-to-value ratio is off the charts. Thomas is the easiest "landlord" I've ever worked with and goes out of his way to make sure that folks here have access to everything they need to be productive -- from fiber-optic Gigabit Internet and high-performance WiFi to 24/7 access with good HVAC and 4 (!) dedicated conference rooms and telepresence/video conferencing equipment. They even have a dedicated network printer/copier/scanner that's included at no cost. They provide free snacks and drinks (including beer!), all-you-can-drink Mazama coffee, and if you have any special requests (as I do for Coke Zero), they will stock the kitchen however you like -- all included! I'm an Internet snob, and I thought I had good connectivity in my home office with Spectrum's Gigabit (1000mbit/40mbit) service, but the network at The Workplace is off the charts. The Fiber makes all the difference. Sub-10ms latency and symmetrical 1000/1000mbit bandwidth is addictive, and it makes video and VOIP conferencing buttery smooth. My GoToMeetings, calls, and Skype's have never been as good or clear... They offer free trials -- which is how I got hooked -- and you can get anything from an hour in a conference room to a dedicated office all month-to-month. Honestly, the pricing is almost too-good-to-be true. I'm afraid he's going to realize how expensive places like WeWork and Capital Factory are and adjust accordingly...
