Today i was reminded of the day I was lashed out on & told by Gracie's (used to be Briana) rescue that she "wouldn't have adopted her out to us" had she known we were going to give her treatment she, personally, is against. After speaking with 3 vets, including the rescue's, all 3 told me the "treatment" the rescue was giving her for heart worm was inadequate & that there is one treatment only for heartworm & it's what we decided we were going to do. This all started before we even decided but because I had the audacity to ask her questions about the treatment Gracie was given prior to us having her & because I called her vet & asked, "I was wondering why she was given the method she was given," thinking I would be told it's effective and works but rather was told, "because we were told not to give her the real treatment." The rescue was outraged & basically accused me of being unfit for even considering REAL treatment. We have already spent over $1000 on Gracie between adoption fees, a vet exam, & lotssss of home supplies, goodies, & needs as well as chipping fees & licensing which MANY pet owners don't even do. We adopted her knowing she had heart worm disease. And I'm being told the rescue regrets making me her parent? Taking on a sick dog after everything we went through with my dog Mimi was a VERY big deal for us & could now cost up to $1200 to treat. But I am not the best mother for this dog? I was told it was basically a mistake she was given to us all because this rescuer "prefers" a method that *doesn't even do anything to help or cure the dog or expand her life expectancy.* She even called Gracie HER dog twice on this call & I had to tell her, twice, she is MY dog now & even getting 3 vet opinions proves I want the best for MY dog. I even had to defend myself by telling her Mimi died in my arms 9 months ago, which I relive every day but don't want to talk about, because she assumed I haven't dealt with the pain of losing a dog which she is convinced will happen to Gracie. She's lucky we are willing to pay for this treatment after being lied to, by her, about it even being needed. I also asked if she barks and was told no. That was a flat out lie. She even did it when we met her at the foster's house. She has digestion issues that causes her to throw up often which there is no way they didn't know about. She was shot, apparently they never did X-rays on her because she has birdshot in her body and deals with pain and needs medication. They failed to tell us she is dog aggressive. We can't take her to dog parks and the introduction to our second dog (a puppy) was a process but it's a good thing we have a backyard for her. When we picked her up it was clear she spent most of her time outside (which is against their own contract) because she was filthy and the water was brown when we bathed her. Upon having her examined we were told she'd need to have teeth removed. So last year (2021) she had ELEVEN teeth removed. None of the above was ever brought up to us. But WE aren't good pet parents? WE shouldn't have this dog? Laughable. Lots of $$$$. I see they removed any option other than Yelp to get reviews (which I left and is now gone). She posted on FB about me saying "someone we adopted to says they don't trust rescue people and it's hard for me" when what I said was I will trust the 3 vets I spoke to over a rescue for medical advice, and got hundreds of sympathy comments even calling me out despite them having no clue as to how she yelled at me on the phone after I called her vet, and what we've dealt with since. There's a $5000 fee if you rehome your own dog (which I'd never do) so if someone couldn't afford treatment at $1200+ or the $100s for puking & pain problems, $1000+ for dental work, and rehomed they'd be sued for $5000. The contract also states that you are required to tell them if you move lol and have them as the primary contact for the microchip while paying for the service -um, no. They also lied about her breed. Being a "lab mix" lol it's very very obviously she is a Pit Bull/Staffy Mix which is why we adopted her. Imagine adopting a "Lab" & your landlord kicks you out for having a Pit Bill or *you* have to pay to ship the dog back, or be sued. Beware. Reading over their contract didn't seem like an issue when I signed it but looking back it's actually laughable the things they require - but don't follow themselves - and threats they make and financial demands if you cannot keep the dog they LIED about. (Would a terrible dog family have this fabulous artwork in the entry of their home for all visitors to see? We absolutely love our dog but another person/family could have gotten rid of her after all the lies and financial problems that have happened since adopting with Reggie's.) read more

We were really hoping to adopt a dog from a local shelter but couldn't find any dogs that would be a good fit for our family. Then, we found Reggie's Friends through the pet finder site. An extensive application process including reference contacts and photos of our yard and home ensued. Once approved, we had a FaceTime call with the Director and met our puppy and got to watch him interact with litter mates and people. Then, we sent $ and our dog flew via cargo to Seattle for pickup. The process was fairly easy and our puppy arrived with microchip, two rounds of shots and several rounds of dewormer. He needed another treatment for giardia but checked out ok I in all other respects. He's a wonderful, bright puppy and the entire family is smitten with him. LC was very responsive to all our contacts during and after the adoption. We highly recommend this rescue - especially after hearing horror stories about other rescues from our vet. I emailed and called and never got a response. Then checked the website and found that the dog I was trying to adopt was not on the website. Reggie's Friends has adopted out almost 200 dogs to families as nearby as Houston and as far away as Canada! They really go the extra mile for their dogs. I myself am a new foster (kind of fell into it when Reggie's helped me out with a stray dog that was found in my neighborhood) and I've gotta say I've never been treated so well as a foster. I was so happy with the first experience with them that I quickly signed up for another! I have fostered for another Houston shelter for a couple of years where the director took a REALLY long time to learn my name, and sometimes if my dog would go on a sleepover the coordinators would forget to tell me if the dog was being adopted or not...little things like that are forgivable of course since we're all fallible humans, but they add up to a lukewarm experience. Not so at Reggie's. The director is very involved and is willing to answer any questions I have - she's also super sweet and you can tell she cares about her foster humans as much as she cares about her foster dogs ;) It means alot! Their adoptions coordinator is also very gifted in the art of getting each dog some exposure. The stray dog I mentioned before had three applications waiting within a couple of weeks of me getting her! They are a fairly small operation doing great big things and they appreciate any help offered by our community. Got scammed from this place. They kept demanding money before we even met the puppy. The contract said we had to deposit money 3 days PRIOR to meeting the dog and states they can charge you $5000 but doesn't mention spay/neuter, heartworm, shots, etc. The woman called me all week with voicemails about "the owner" having extensive costs, vet emergencies and even some flight to Chicago emergency. We agreed to deliver contract/money electronically on site once we met the dog. My kids are devastated!!! Got a text halfway into our 2 HOUR drive to meet the puppy when she disappeared. There are many reputable LOCAL adoption services like "Emerald" or any of our shelters. Stay away from this one!!! read more

Even if I see the dog of my dreams I will avoid working with Reggie's Friends. We had a darling pup picked out, sent them home photos, were praised by them about our home, they approved our application and we agreed to prepay them. They said we would receive the contract and even gave us two possible flight dates for our puppy. We had a video visit with the foster parent (who happens to be the mother of the director or Reggie's) and - all of a sudden- they declined to allow us to adopt saying that if we happened to send the dog back that two flights would be stressful on the pup. Well, sending a puppy back was, of course, the last thing on our minds. Also, isn't that a risk with every pup they send out? I see other posts where puppies were shipped by air to happy adopting parents. So what is the real reason, Reggie's? I certainly hope is is not because we are a mixed-race couple, as you would have learned from the video visit with the foster mom. Or that there is something wrong with the pup that you did not share. Or is there some reason the puppy's vet never called us back to answer our questions about the pup's overall health? Or something else? I was told the director of Reggie's would call me and she never did, so I am left with so many unanswered questions. Even the foster mom has now ghosted me. We are moving on, but I feel for the pup we were going to adopt - she could have had such a loving home. read more

Had a horrible experience while trying to adopt a dog with Reggie's Friends. They believe God has given them the right to judge other humans and treat them like shit. If they treat others like this, wonder how bad they can be to the animals. We went through a stringent application, referrals, verification and event sent pictures of our home. Went to meet the dogs and we instantly fell in love. After stressful 7 days, they approved our application and couple of hours later, they just sent me a text that they are not interested anymore, without citing a reason. They just ignored my emails or text to atleast tell me why. I understand that pets here are put on an auction and whoever bids the highest gets the dog. What a shame for your greed Reggie's Friends. You can't be anybody's friend. If you love your family, go to other rescue shelters who respect you, for your good intentions of saving a life. read more

My husband and I rescued a 3 yrs old American Bulldog mix, Rudy, from Reggie's Friends and had a great experience in using Reggie's Friends. We were looking for a dog that already had his basic manners (i.e. not a puppy & house broken) who would be good for a family with young children and wasn't too high of energy since we both work full-time. We happened across Reggie's Friends when we found that their site allowed us to sort by 'kid friendly', which is oddly rare for the online pet finder sites. After contacting Reggie's Friends about Rudy to see if he was still available, we received a prompt response from his foster along with additional info on his character. While we couldn't meet Rudy in-person, we were able to do a video conference call with the foster family and saw how he interacted with his family and other dogs. During our video call, we asked the foster (LC) about some of the negative reviews on Yelp and received explanations on the extenuating circumstances that one does not get from the reviews themselves. Those explanations helped us feel comfortable in completing the adoption process. If you have any concerns, I highly suggest asking Reggie's Friends directly about those reviews to decide for yourself rather than taking those reviews as pure fact. After our interview, the adoption & reference process went quite quick and Rudy was soon on a flight to our home (via United's Pet travel program) in Seattle from Houston, TX. Rudy arrived in a sturdy travel crate with water and a blanket. I can't say that the flight did wonders for him - I'm guessing it was pretty loud and all around frightening due to flying within a semi-cargo area - but there isn't a great alternative unless you can drive the dog back home yourself. That said, Rudy is settling in nicely and he seems to be relaxing as time goes on. Rudy went to the vet the following weekend that we received him and got a clean bill of health. He had already been vaccinated for rabbies, parvo, kennel cough, and was on a heartworm med (just in case the test came back positive later on). We've now had Rudy for 4 weeks and he is settling into our household nicely. His temperament seems consistent with how the foster described although I imagine we'll continue to see more of his personality come out over time. Overall, we had a wonderful experience in adopting from Reggie's Friends and would recommend them to others who are looking to adopt a dog. They are a small but passionate organization who we've found to be very responsive to any questions or concerns you might have about their dogs. read more

Such a disappointing rescue group. The dog we tried to adopt was heavily medicated. They indicated this was for the dogs benefit. The poor dog was terrified and needs to be working with someone say and night. Not be on massive amount to of medications. We tried a different drug under our vets recommendation to ween him off. Unfortunately it wasn't a success. When we got the rescue dog he was positive for three different fecal bacterias which we treated him for. Even after we were assured he was a healthy dog. Coming from Texas he should have been tested for heart worm and he was never tested. The foster home he came from was a home with heavy smokers. That is also not healthy for the dogs. We realized he needs a home where he can be with someone most all day. We couldn't be there for him and it was horridly sad for us. When we wanted to try and re-home him to to correct house the Reggie's Rescue Director was not willing to step up and have a conversation with us. She cowers behind her emails and refuses to address any situations. Yet they use social media to try and berate your character with leas than truthful statements. It's a poor example of positive leadership. There are so many groups out there and so many places to help reduce animals. My advice would be to look beyond Reggie's rescue to other groups. read more

I love that Reggie's Friends takes in all types of dogs without discrimination. I got my boxer mix Adrianne from them. She's the sweetest girl. I even had an instance where we were in a bind for where to leave her when we went on vacation. Her vet's kennel was full. I've had a wonderful, supportive experience with Reggie's Friends. I live in Portland, and I came across a beautiful, blue-nosed pit bull on Pet Finder back in April. Upon inquiring about him, I learned that he was in the care of Reggie's Friends in Houston. I had never considered out-of-state adoption, but there was just something about this dog - I had a feeling he was already "mine." The Adoption Coordinator was (and is) so kind and efficient in her responses to any and all questions; and I was amazed at how quickly I'd hear back from her during the application process. I will admit, I was wary about adopting a dog I wasn't actually going to meet in person beforehand, so I flooded her email with any questions and concerns I could think of. I also got to speak with the Director at length about the dog, and since she knew him best, she was able to tell me everything I wanted to know. She arranged a time for me to Skype with her so I could see him. I'd already fallen in love with him, but when I saw him in action, my fate was officially sealed. His adoption fee was higher than I'd anticipated, BUT it included his airfare, crate, bed, flea treatment, and a 30-day supply of medication for his mange and heart-worms. I felt like it was more than fair, especially considering how above-and-beyond they'd gone to ensure we were a good fit for each other. I learned that they'd turned down 8 other applicants for my dog, simply because they weren't certain it was the right match. This tells me how deeply they care about their dogs, and how dedicated they are to finding them the perfect forever homes. My boy arrived on April 18th, and I knew instantly that I'd made the right choice. He was scared and confused from the flight, but I had no problems getting him home - he came into my apartment, found his water bowl, then he started playing with a toy I'd gotten him. He jumped right into bed with me, and slept like a baby. It was definitely an adjustment, and I was admittedly a nervous wreck - but I was in constant contact with Reggie's Friends, and I felt so supported. His separation anxiety is pretty severe, and caused some serious problems for me at first. He busted out of his first crate (the one he'd arrived in), so I bought him one of the metal wire crates from Petco. He figured out how to wiggle out of that one in about 2 days. I reluctantly tried to leave him loose while I was at work after that, and he did fine for about 3 weeks. Then, he started being very destructive while I was gone - he pulled down 2 sets of blinds, and started pulling the paneling off the walls by the door. I live alone, so I was out of options and very stressed about what to do for him. I'd taken every suggestion I'd been given, but I wasn't able to give him what he needed. The Adoption Coordinator at Reggie's Friends put me in touch with a friend of hers in Seattle, who was willing to give me a military grade steel crate. Imagine this - giving a total stranger whom you've never met, such an incredible gift. This crate has made all the difference in the WORLD. He has no hope of escaping from it, and he even goes in willingly now - he doesn't like it, but he goes! His separation anxiety is his biggest issue, and I know this is very common with rescue dogs. I'd dealt with it before, but never with a large dog who could do such damage. Otherwise he is a sweet, playful, mellow goofball who has no clue he's a pit bull. Had it not been for the ladies at Reggie's Friends and their CONSTANT support, I wouldn't have know what more to do for him. I still ask them questions now, 7 months later, and hear back from them almost immediately. They have my back because they care. I am very passionate about animal rights and rescue, and I've been telling everyone I know about this organization. As a follow up, I had filed a dispute on the $300 adoption fees with PayPal. After investigation PayPal refunded me of all fees. The rep also informed me that this business is classifying adoption fees as "donations" potentially (at least it appears that way) to potentially circumvent PayPal fees. Not only did a third party support my claim of fraudulent/unethical business practices, but they are also informed me that they will be conducting a separate investigation. They are truly looking out for the dogs best interest and making sure everyone fits, which yes that means they can be picky and they have every right to be! I know in our case we adopted an amazing soul, one who's background wasn't pretty. But once Reggie's Friends managed to get they're loving hands on her, our girls life turned around. They gave her all the love and devotion she deserved just as they do with EVERY dog that comes their way!! Our family could not be happier with our Bella, she fit right in! I have never been so disappointed in a rescue. We brought our dog up to find him a match for his personality. They not only told me that they strive for that, they believe in it. While I was there she told us this dog had been returned because she was to clingy. We fell in love and she seemed like a good match. They said they gave her benedryl for her allergies and when we packed her up they said she had "slight" heartworms and they would give me the medication which they did not. My vet informed me there was no "slight" to heartworms and the treatment would be upwards of 800 dollars. I was more than happy to invest this but it was a big shock. I took a look at the other dogs on the premisis and one was showing obvious signs of aggression and fear and was growling at us. One of the ladys started hitting the cage and yelling at him. Then she opened it up and started smacking him - he reacted by biting at her and I DO NOT BLAME HIM! After a month of having her she still refused to eat - which I brought her to the vet several times worried about her weight. I even texted Reggies Friends asking for advice. She had extreme separation anxiety which also didn't work as we were looking for a dog for PTSD and had explained that to them. They truly thought she would be and I appreciated them taking the time to consider her for it but she unfortunately was not. As time went on she became destructive and more aggressive during playtime, throwing our dog down and grabbing him by the throat. I hired a trainer to review their personalities and had him come on several occasions. I texted again asking for advice or help on how to help her calm down. Both the trainer and my vet agreed she may not be a good fit to be service dog and our dog. From calming collars, to a thunder shirt, making her homemade dog food to help her gain weight, etc. I continued to ask for advice from the organization. Finally, we took the trainers and vets advice and brought her back. Mind you I held no ill will even after they yelled at us blaming us for her behavior issues. They then turned to facebook, blocked me and slandered me. They claimed I returned her because she was to "clingy." Which was not the case. I even took the bigger step and apologized to them. I have all the documentation from the vet and the trainer and offered to not only show them this but help with dog food donations because it didn't work out. I am very upset by the entire situation. They lied about why we made the tough choice to bring her back and people responded to what they said about us by saying that we deserved to be "punched in the throat." I tried to call them to discuss the situation and she kept sending me to voicemail. I even texted an apology and offered to give her the numbers of my vet and trainer as a show of good faith. I am really glad I am big on saving everything from situations like this. From messages from them, to the slander they put up on facebook - not being truthful about why she was returned and then claiming I wanted to "trade her in" for another dog (our messages to and from one another disproves their claims on why I had "abandoned her." All of the messages to them were me asking for help, advice on how I could help ease her transition, what they did for her so I could replicate it and what type of dog food they gave her because she wasn't eating (mind you, I took her in to my local organic dog food store and they knew her and me very well by the end of the month because they even started in on trying to help me find food for her as well as me making her home made dog food with beef, liver chicken etc.). I asked them several times how I could make it better for her because I was becoming increasingly worried about her. All of the messages I sent to them were about asking for advice to help her with her anxieties, how she was not eating, how I was worried about her mentally and physically - from my trainers and veterinarians advice - I continued to update them on the situation and ask for their advice on how to help her transition better. If she had been a good match for our dog and for ptsd training, which the trainer believed she was not because she had such high anxiety, I would have kept her and worked with her. I had no issues with her wanting to be around us all the time as they claimed, in fact that's why I loved about her. However, I don't believe in forcing two dogs to be a match for each other and she was not a good match to be a service dog for PTSD, which was the only reason why I regrettably returned her because my HOA has a cap so if we kept her we wouldn't have been able to get our service companion. I have never felt so demoralized in my life. I had a tall order to fill and was nothing but honest with them from the very beginning. They ridiculed me, lied about my character and the entire situation. I believe in what they are trying to do but I don't believe in the way they treat people. read more

They just keep saving more and more homeless dogs and do their best to find wonderful homes for each and every one. Constantly seeing extreme cases of abuse, cruelty and neglect can destroy most people but they keep rescuing the tough cases no matter how heartbreaking. I adopted a heartworm positive dog that I was fostering for Reggie's Friends. The director got mad at me for repeatedly asking her if she mailed the antibiotics she volunteered and promised to send that the dog needed desperately. Because of that, LaChrystal Ricke now refuses to send heartworm medication, vaccination records, or microchip information. I have been trying to get this from her since early March, and she refuses to respond to text message, voice mail, or emails requesting these things. This is a pattern with LaChrystal Ricke. She will promise to do something, and then get very aggressive and angry when you ask her why she did not follow through. She is very vindictive and petty, and will go off the rails if you act like anything short of a rescue groupie toward her. Hard to believe the director of a rescue would literally put a dog at risk just to satisfy her unjustified pettiness! read more

I've had a great experience with Reggie's friends. I first learned about my dog through petfinder. I saw his face and fell in love. I contacted Reggie's friends and they were very supportive and patient with me. I live in MA and have never adopted before so naturally I had a TON of questions. They were happy to answer each and every question thoughroughly. I was hesitant about and out-of-state adoption but they were great about explaining the entire process. I was also hesitant about adopting a dog I couldn't meet beforehand but they described him to me and there were no surprises at all when he came to me. They didn't try to hide his flaws in order to "sell" him to me. They were honest and straightforward. He had the same personality they described:) My dog was staying with a "foster" mom and she sent me tons of pictures and videos of him, which I loved. I had such a great experience adopting my sweet labradore boxer puppy from Reggie's friends. My family and I are located in Seattle and even long distance the process was quick and easy. Michelle was my contact person throughout the process, and she was very responsive to any questions I had. I was very impressed with how thorough the application process was, I respect all the work they put in to vetting the situations they are sending their dogs into. I was given multiple opportunities to see pictures, videos, and even Skype(although I did not use this option) with my puppy Daphne prior to picking her up from the airport.
