My family and I stopped by yesterday to get some new outfits for church. We were greeted as soon as we walked in which is always a plus for me. It's a smaller shop and when the owner saw us looking at the clothes he immediately told us let us to let him know if we were looking for anything in particular and that he also had more sizes and styles in the back. It was my husband's first time buying a dashiki and the owner was really helpful with assisting him find one that fit well. He also let us sample his amazing shea butter and was helpful with finding a good outfit for my daughter. Amazing customer service, quality, well priced items, and a true gem! I've been coming to this place for several years to mostly stock up on my favorite incense, ethnic knick knacks, and camaraderie with the co-owner behind the counter. However for the past year or so, I've become more turned off by this place because this young cat who's been behind the counter as of late has TERRIBLE customer service. He has never acknowledged me when I entered the store, doesn't speak unless you speak to him first and rarely does he look up from whatever he's doing (reading) to see if you need any assistance. Twice on different occassions I've taken a friend with me to this store to purchase incense and they noticed the same thing. This has got to change. I have recently moved back to SD and was so happy to see that this place made it thru COVID. Previously I lived here for over 20 years and always loved popping into this shop from time to time. Well now I don't know what to think. I walked in and bought an item without looking at the sticker (my mistake) and just asked the man the price. He stated $55 and I paid it. I liked this small store. It has a variety of items including sweatshirts, hoodies, etc with Bob Marley and the like and some "traditional" dresses and shirts. They also carry stickers, glass pipes, incense, sage (that i wish we had purchased to eliminate the bad spirits from our house - oh wait, those are teenagers), and jewelry. My daughter found a pretty nice steering wheel cover that was reasonably priced around $15. I definetely think this small store should be visited. read more

I've been in here a couple times, and I DO like what the store has to offer, the stickers, clothing, music, incense, etc. However, I did not find the storekeeper to be very helpful at all. In a 'reggae' shop, the storeowner or whoever is working at the counter, should be friendly and helpful. No one likes to be hassled or pressured, but this guy did not even greet me when I entered the store, nor did he offer and any assistance ("Hi! Can I help you find something? Let me know if you have any questions!") When I did ask him a question about a product, he was not very forthcoming and looked at me like I was stupid. Also, he music he was playing was so damn loud I almost left immediately. The music itself was pleasant and I liked it, but this was too loud. He barely turned it turn to answer a question. In my opinion, that shows a lack of respect for your customers; drowning out your customers is NOT welcoming. Again, I liked what the store offered but I admit I believe nearly everything in there is overpriced. $2.00 for a plastic sticker? Please. I don't know if I will go back there for merchandise, I will probably find another shop like it, because I was so put off by the staff. Maybe this guy hates his job. And if he doesn't, he should find ways of showing it, because he was not friendly or helpful. And in a setting like a reggae shop, the staff SHOULD be friendly, helpful, NOT condescending (which was the vibe I got from him). read more

All I can say is Zulu is the nicest man on the face of the earth. I've had contact with this gentleman since I started doing work on the house next door. Mind you, I have never made a purchase from his store. He found it within his huge heart to help me get my car running. He even closed his store to help me. I always try to support black owned, and in a military city like san diego, Reggae World is a gem for the afro-centric and just overall conscious-minded individual. I've been a customer for years, whenever, I need some more black soap, music, clothing, necklaces etc i'm there. We need more small independent businesses like this in san diego and Reggae World is a prime example of a tenured and successful one.
