Who doesn't love (ahem...need) a getaway? I take them as often as I can, usually looking for…read moresomewhere nearby so I don't spend half my vacation time in traffic. I always think I'm ahead of the game when it comes to Inn's and B&B's, but I'm always surprised to find new places I've never heard of, especially when they are located in a town I've never visited. Last month, I hopped on Google to search for my next trip, and scanned on over to Faribault, where the pickings were slim. I hovered over an Inn on the property of an International boarding school (in Minnesota?). I figured it was private and almost clicked away, but was drooling over the photos and had to investigate. Sure enough, this is an Inn, open to the public, and tucked away so wonderfully, you'll feel far far away. The hostess was kind and helped me reserve a room over the phone, but you can also reserve online. There are simply not enough photos on their website...this place is gorgeous and spacious. It was built in 1817 as a library, then a dorm. then an infirmary for a school, and was recently restored and renovated in 2013. It has all of the modern amenities one could want, and yet they've preserved the beauty of the old architecture and incorporated it as much as they can. I reserved a Single Studio for $109 a night (a steal), which comes with a complimentary grab + go style breakfast, as well as coffee, tea and punch. The breakfast area seats around 10 comfortably, and we only ran into 3 other people in the morning. The Inn is also rented out for small weddings and company meetings, but we didn't wander into those areas. The hostess leaves in the evening, so we had the place to ourselves and were encouraged to walk around and make ourselves at home. We didn't notice any unwanted noise or disturbances, even with several cars in the lot. Note that you need your key to get back in after 10pm. We were upgraded to a King Suite at no extra charge, simply because the room was available. I was impressed and grateful for the wonderful customer service. The room was HUGE, and had a sweet sitting area, with a cute green couch, and flatscreen, as well as a flatscreen around the corner across from the comfy bed. It had a large armoire and desk, and big windows. The room was cozy, and we noticed the couch and ottoman could be converted to a hideaway bed if needed. The bathroom was large, but the shower was small - it could definitely have held a tub and bigger shower, but was fine for us. It was clean and modern, and I loved the smell of the toiletries made in NYC. Definitely take a walk around the grounds - we walked down an unmarked path down to the river and train tracks to explore a bit. I saw only a handful of students on the grounds, and wonder what it would look like while school was in session - however you are not in the middle of the school grounds so you have you own privacy. For the price, the comfort, and the location, this place is absolutely the best in Faribault, and I will definitely be returning next time I head south for an escape.

We booked a reservation back in November, which we were just informed, was cancelled by management…read moreas they are "reserving all rooms" for a particular graduating class. If that class was as interested in staying there for their reunion, as we were, they would also have booked well in advance. This is outrageous and entirely unacceptable.

My Mom and I stayed one night. I set up an online reservation ten days ahead of time. I was…read moreslightly upset as the online booking system did put a "hold" on my debit card for the price of the room and did say that it would charge my debit card once checked in. But when we arrived to the hotel we had to turn over the debit card to the front desk manager to complete the reservation. I did put in an accommodation request in the online system as I have hip replacements and cannot walk up/down stairs. The staff only read the request upon check in. I did place this reservation in advance (10 days) to provide an easy check in process with providing advanced notice so that my needs/wants could have been considered. There is one single room designed as an "ADA Accessible" room at this property that is a single queen bed, non-smoking as of September 25, 2025. This location has a single front of house staff member on duty during our stay. The staff was friendly and seemed to have good customer service skills but a second staff member during breakfast would be in order. This location was very quiet considering it is one block off the freeway exit and one block from a truck stop on the other side of the hotel. We were in a two queen bed, non-smoking room. one of the bedspreads had two cigarette burns in it. (I wonder how these burns got there in a non-smoking room?!?!) Beds were about three feet off the ground, so if you are short, 5 feet 5 inches, like me it was a bit difficult getting in and out of bed. Beds are firm, not plush, with no way to adjust softness. Provided sheets were thin but comfortable. There is no onsite dining services, including room service. There is a Hardee's and Fairbault Family Restaurant within 0.3 miles of the location if you're interested.

Never again. Staff was friendly but everything was old and worn. Blanket was thin, bed lumpy,…read moretowels felt like sandpaper. Tv didn't work. They discovered they needed to order a part. Breakfast was DIY waffles or those tiny donuts. Out of coffee. I felt sorry for the poor woman behind the desk. She had to check people in and out, answer phones, tend to peoples requests, and keep breakfast stocked. Obviously short staffed. There HAS to be a better hotel in this city!

When I was checking in I was asked if I wanted a room on the lower floor or upper- I chose upper so I could avoid the noise of footsteps above me... little did I know there was no elevator so I had to carry all of my luggage up a flight of stairs. After entering the room I used the bathroom- which did not have a working exhaust fan. A bit later my daughter spilled some water on the floor- the white washcloth turned black from wiping it up. Not to mention there were very few bathroom linens to choose from. To end the night we were going to use the pool- there were a couple of girls in the pool when we entered who warned us that they just found a broken glass in the pool and we're trying to find help to clean it. My daughter was already disappointed in this experience but they still had a hot tub- the color of the water in the hot tub was completely yellowish/brownish so I had to tell her we were absolutely not going in there either. Had we not been completely exhausted already we would have left immediately, I had booked our stay for 2 nights but didn't even stay the second night because it was so bad. We woke up, definitely didn't even consider checking out the breakfast, and got the heck out of there. Since I booked on Expedia I didn't even bother trying to cancel the second night or get a refund- BAD

My bad? Clearly. Customer service at Boarders Inn? The worst I've ever encountered. Do yourself a favor and steer clear until they get things figured out.
