In the year 2016, I filed bankruptcy because of a pending divorce. It was a high stress and…read moresickening time, especially knowing that I would have to sell my house because of my knowledge of what the other party was going to pursue. Also knowing it would be at least 2 years before I could try to purchase another home. I first met with the Oswalt law group but was dissatisfied with the attorney's demeanor. That attorney was adamant that without a doubt a Chapter 13 bankruptcy was my only option. I was ok with that but the demeanor that was put forth was unacceptable to me. It truly bothered me. The aforementioned experience led me to The Hindo Law Group. During my consultation, Attorney Ms. Jillian Hindo gave me high hopes because she stated that she believed my bankruptcy could possibly be a Chapter 7 instead of a Chapter 13. As she thought, she managed to have it mandated as a Chapter 7. This was great news!! The bankruptcy was successfully discharged months later and because it was a Chapter 7, I did not have the anticipated financial strain, considering if it would have been a Chapter 13. In November 2016, my mother passed away. I still miss her greatly. I received some monies from her estate approximately 6 months after her death. Since the estate money was distributed 6 months after my bankruptcy was discharged, I accepted the money. Several months later, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court determined that the estate money was theirs. I was knocked to my knees. That would mean I would have to pay back the money to them in a short period of time. How was I going come up with such loot?? To make matters worse, my house was now up for sale as part of the divorce. My former Attorney Jillian Hindo was now aware and she took all the matters of stress away from me and she wasn't even my attorney at time. Her diligence, resources, skills and abilities, as well as her creativity and years of experience surfaced for all to witness when she managed to satisfy the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, using all the laws that applied to my situation. She legally satisfied both parties. Wow!!! I s right!!! A couples months and 2 years later, I have purchased a ranch and am starting to live my retirement years in the company of a country/desert atmosphere. To summarize the entire nightmare this place wanted me to sign a stipulated judgment on a lawsuit…read morefiled by one of those debt buyers (who never attempted to contact me to advise they purchased) that had been dismissed 5 days prior! That reflects the zero effort put into my representation. When I had my initial meeting with them they summarized the same exact terms of the stipulations this was even after I gave him my financial profile as I'm retired living on Social Security with no additional income with both my income and bank account exempt from garnishing or levies. I was looking for a payment plan or settlement that included dismissal of this suit. I understand the representation was limited in scope & the attorney stated more than once the $796 I paid him was nothing & other firms would cost double for this but not to the point where there was zero effort in an attempt to negotiate which by the way per the retainer does include negotiating. Regardless of the back story the end result was this firm who was supposed to be representing me and my interests to some extent was pushing me on July 7th to sign a Stipulated Judgment on a case that had been dismissed on July 2nd. That's an enormous mistake.
