When we moved to Michigan in 2014 to be near our physician son and his family and purchased a 10…read moreyear old house we used the insurance company that the bank we used were also an agent for. That was Westfield Ins. We gave them our home and vehicles. Premiums were set up on automatic pay. We paid over $50,000 over ten years without a single claim. We had only one small finder bender over the ten years. We recieved a letter last month informing us that they did an aerial inspection. When I called, they in fact came out to our rural property and flew a drone over our property and copied the vin number off my truck. The letter made three demands later increased the demands to 4. 1) Have a roofing company come out and give an estimate as to the life expectancy of the shingles. The roof is in excellent condition. No cupping, no dog ears and no missing shingles. We are 20 years into a 30 year roof. 2) Remove the commercial truck from the property. They didn't check, however they have insured the truck for 7 or 8 years. They accepted the truck as a private use truck. 3) Clean up around the barn. They expanded that to the entire property. We are zoned agriculture. 4) My 43 year old Physician son is on the title to the truck along with me. His income is in the high 6 figures. His home is valued at over $1.5 million. The secretary of states office told me they have never had an insurance company demands someone removed from title ownership. Frankly removing my son is to his benefit. His estate would not be tied to the liability. His name was on the title because he purchased the truck for me. Sec of States office thought the demand was an error until I showed them the email. Now the good part. I took both home and auto policies to a local broker. They too found the whole thing strange. They found our driving and homeowners record spotless. They were able to write our insurance needs for HALF of what we were paying with more coverage. Westfield put replacement value to our home at $395.000. Our new insurance company at $550,000. My 25 year old truck that I doubt I drive 10 miles per month had full coverage with rental car coverage, totally unnecessary. All Westfield did was to open a can of worms. They had it good. They were making over $6,000 per year from automatic payments and only had one small auto claim over a ten year period. I hope they miss our money.
