A fantastic little cafe with very friendly staff.
The bread is homemade (in fact, they have plans to open the 'Brief Encounter Bakery' to include their bread, shortbread, scones, cakes, truffles, jams, etc - and if you want to sample some of their stuff they have a stall on Wednesdays in Carnforth market) so the sandwiches and toasties, etc, are all lovely. Because of the small kitchen and the fact that everything is freshly prepared the food is a bit slow, especially if it is very busy, but as long as you aren't in a rush it is a lovely place to sit and chat or ponder as the 1940's music keeps your feet tapping.
The owners are making a real go of such a small place. In addition to the bakery, they do Jazz events during lunches and evenings, as well as opening for evening meals on Friday nights. They also hold meals at Christmas and Valentines, and if you want to book your own party they have done Wedding receptions, Anniversaries, Birthdays, Bussiness events, etc. In fact, the owners had their own wedding blessing there and invited all the regulars for a meal and celebration!
The location is a bit annoying as you have to park in the station car par which charges (if you have a disabled person with you though you can take your car to the back car pack which is for disabled and staff use only), and if coming from the Motorway follow signs for Carnforth Station or Carnforth Station Visitor's Center, but these things are hardly the cafe's fault!
As you can tell from the information we got the staff are happy to chat away about the film or Carnforth and anything you can't get off them the volunteers in the visitors center will be happy to help!
I hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did! read more
