I only waited a couple minutes before Ashley Cafferty greeted me and walked me back to my exam room. Ashley and I went through my medical history, my transplant timeline and my relationship with the sun. I appreciate that she took in everything that I was throwing at her. She didn't rush me and everything that I had to tell her. Her attention was truly undivided. Ashley did a thorough exam of my skin. She checked every mole to make sure they weren't suspicious for anything concerning. We also went through my dry skin concerns and possible treatment options to help alleviate some of the dryness. It is quite the awkward situation, having someone you just barely met go through every inch of your body but Ashley made me feel comfortable the whole time. When I arrived, I sat in the waiting room for over 30 minutes with absolutely no communication. No one came out to acknowledge me, apologize for running late, or even let me know what was going on. I had to text just to find out if I was still going to be seen. Eventually I was told she was "cleaning," but never once did she step out to personally apologize or explain the delay. Since I work two jobs, I couldn't keep waiting indefinitely. I had already used my lunch break, driven to the appointment, and lost valuable work time. To accommodate her schedule, I agreed to come back the following morning after she assured me she would come in early specifically to treat me. Unfortunately, the communication issues continued. I called multiple times to confirm the appointment and continued receiving automated text responses instead of a phone call or confirmation from the office. After I expressed my frustration, I received an apology, but I was also told that "the few people who can't understand that don't belong in my chair anyway." That statement was disappointing because it completely missed the point. I wasn't upset that she was running behind--I was upset by the lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism. Being a solo provider is hard, and I truly respect anyone building a business. But customer service is part of running that business. When clients are taking time off work, using their gas, rearranging their schedules, and trusting someone with cosmetic procedures that cost hundreds of dollars, the least they deserve is timely communication and respect for their time. A simple "Hi, I'm so sorry I'm running behind. Thank you for your patience," would have changed this entire experience.
