My goodness! If I had a name for perfection for Japanese Straightening in California, it would be Jeff! I am so happy I've met a hair stylist who works with so much care and hard work. He knows what he is doing and you can see that by the way he works with your hair. From the way he even washes your hair to fixing dead ends, he makes it look so easy. With my long hair he finished at a fast pace with precision. I was shocked that we finished in less than 4 hours!!!!! Other salons can take up to 6 hours for my hair. The price is very reasonable, he gave me coffee for free, and the treats are free as well. With his 20 years of experience you won't be disappointed with the end result. read more

Ref salon is the absolute best in Yoko straightening. I have been doing it for 18 years and just found them in Beverly hills again since Yoko salon has been closed. In addition, most everyone takes 5 hours but to take 3 hours with this result was beyond my expectation. I would go back for certain. Sara read more

I am a LONG TIME customer and BIG FAN of this salon. Ryuji (pardon me if I'm mis-spelling his name), the owner, is AWESOME! He's super nice, professional, friendly, and his work is great!!! I go to him for everything: the Japanese straightening and my hair cuts. Also, REF salon is always so pleasant to go to, neat, clean and spacious. A little pricy! but can't complain. All is good, Thanks Jeff! read more

I've been getting my hair straightened with Ryuji for almost 20 years now, and I would never trust my hair with anyone else but him. I drive over an hour each way for him and I don't like driving. He is seriously that good and it's so worth it. If you are looking for a master of all things hair, Ryuji is your guy! read more

Ok you are caught in between, you have the genetic makeup of all parts on planet earth, you hold the flags of the United Nations , got the curls from the motherland and the waves and silky strands from your European ancestors, results are Frizz Cittyyyyyy. Ryuji gave me hope to grow my hair again. I was about to chop it off because I got tired of having to maintain it , blow dry it everyday!!! Oh my God this is a game changer! Wait... wake up, shower and go?! Huh ? That was only in my dreams! Beware no parking anywhere!!!! Crazy Beverly Hills , it's the republic :) Parking structure next to the salon charges $20 bucks. I just pretended it was part of the treatment I received. The process takes about three hours with two washing sessions, two product applications and two stying sessions. I had a great conversation with Ryuji :) Fun amazing individual and very professional too . Will be back definitely with longer stronger hair , Thank you Ryuji !!!! read more

I've been coming to Jeff for Japanese straightening for 5 years now and the condition of my hair has drastically improved ever since. It is shinier, appears healthier, has grown tremendously (for someone with really curly and frizzy hair) and is more disciplined. Hair straightening and re-texturing products can seem a bit intimidating and outright scary sometimes when you hear about other people's horror stories. If you've been looking into getting this done, you needn't look any further. Jeff and the other stylists at Ref Salon know exactly what they're doing. They are professional, punctual, attentive, detail-oriented and knowledgeable. Plus, they get the entire thing done pretty quickly with the help of their assistants, who are also very professional and nice. All around excellent experience. read more

I can't dream of going anywhere else! I have been going to Jeff for years now. Went to Ref Salon for the first time. Highly recommend this place and highly recommend Jeff. I would give more stars if I could. read more

I've been coming to Jeff for my hair straightening for about 7 years, ever since he was at the Yuko salon. I drive up from San Diego because Jeff is the only person I trust with my Yuko. I'm a perfectionist and very hard to please, and have loved Jeff's work since my very first visit. He is talented and professional and actually cares about keeping your hair healthy. My hair not only looks great but is also healthier now thanks to Jeff and his attention to detail. Would highly recommend him! read more

I've been going here for a year now, I believe. I get my touch ups every 6 months for Japanese straightening. It's burns a huge hole in my wallet but its so worth it. I have super super curly hair but Ryuji makes it very sleek, manageable, shiny, and thin. I also have super long hair and touch ups and straightening don't take as long as I thought. He also makes me feel comfortable with anything to talk about, and always offers you drinks throughout the 4 hour process (which isn't bad amount of time). The bathroom is very clean. My hair is much more healthier than when I used to get relaxers. It also doesn't frizz up at all in humid conditions. And if it gets wet, it'll dry very straight. Just need heat on my relaxed ends. Seriously consider it. The prices are cheaper than the salons that charge thousands e_e. I can't see anyone else doing my hair, because he knows what he's doing and manages my hair type with care. It takes alot to find a trusty hair stylist who knows your needs. PS sorry I never tip (broken heart) But my gratitude is in my heart for the hard work you guys do. I also like that the salon is quite private. There's nothing more annoying and awkward than seeing people walk past the salon window staring at your hair in this big goopy mess. So that adds to my comfort as well. They will pamper you. The towels keep you very dry, even if your hair is past your back. I've had issues at other salons where my clothes would be soaked because of the towels being a problem. The chairs are very comfortable. Other salons I have to strain my neck to keep it upright for the stylist. I never get burns on my scalp, like a relaxer would. If you want straight healthy hair with zero effort to maintain, get Japanese straightening. My hair is much healthier compared to my ends. I thought it was just a gimmick, but it really is a huge difference regardless of how curly your hair is. My hair is much healthier too because I use less heat with this straightening treatment. I can continue to grow it even more long! It's worth the drive. Keep up the good work and thanks for taking care of my hair, it's my comfort blanket. read more

I have been a client of Ryuji for 12 years. He is the most professional, lovely stylist who does a++++++++ straightening and haircutting for me. He is perfectionist, makes you feel completely comfortable and his work is always impeccable. It's a treat to come here and spend a few hours. There is no one in this city who can compare to the straightening technique he uses. You will flip out at how amazing your hair looks when you leave! read more

RYUJI is amazing! I have had my hair straightened at other salons, but he does the best job by far! I had breakage from other stylist, but never an issue since I started coming here! I drive up from San Diego and it is worth it! read more

I've been getting Yuko on my hair since c. 2001-02. A few weeks ago Ryugi did my hair for the first time with his assistant. I am blown away and so grateful, thankful and appreciative of their talent, professionalism and competence with my hair. These 2 truly know how to work together and in such sync. My hair has never looked better. I've had stylists take 7-8 hours to do my hair but together these 2 did my hair in 3 hours! Because I live overseas scheduling can be a problem. I needed to change my appointment at the last minute a couple times as well as make my appointment at the last minute. I couldn't have been accommodated better. Because I was the last customer that day, Ryugi even offered to drive me to Beverly Center where I needed to go after my appointment. Now, that is service! My hair looks AMAZING and believe me, I've had a lot of straightening sessions to compare with and this is probably my best yet. I am beyond grateful for having found this salon and I plan to be a customer for life! read more
