It is a little pricey, but from what I could tell, everything is ethically sourced and the shopkeeper really knew her stuff (I asked her about smoky spice mixes and she spent a fair bit of time explaining types she could recommend and the differences between them).

This store has been here since the Centre opened in 1974 and is another family run business. There are over 150 loose items of a wide variety stocked here and many other items are on dislpay. Prices vary hugely, though: pittas are very good value, for example, but some other items are more expensive. But with such a wide range it is unlikely you won't be able to find what you want. The main downer - as others have said - is the staff, who vary from friendly to downright dismissive. The other particular gripe is the awkward queuing system, that means that on every visit, someone who has arrived later has ended up getting served before me.

The staff who work there are all extremely helpful and enthusiastic.I have been in there hundreds of times and I am always amazed at how friendly everybody is. They have also recently started up a 'Cheese Club' membership where members receive a seasonal selection of farmhouse cheeses either monthly or bi-monthly. We are massive fans of the goat's milk gouda and Villarejo manchego, as well as the bagels that Mike, the owner, picks up from the Bagel Shop on Brick Lane each morning.
