please read Email I sent to Management Hello,…read more (Name) I'm reviewing the $1,450 labor charge for the recent water heater installation and need clarification before moving forward. I purchased the water heater myself, picked it up, and had it on-site prior to installation. Tank was drained and all lines disconnected and ready for easy swap. I also supplied all new water lines and the gas line, which your team used during the installation. The existing sediment trap on the gas line was reused. The existing drip pan was in place prior to installation, but it was broken during the process and replaced by your team. No expansion tank was previously installed, and none was added during this installation. The water shutoff valve was also not replaced. The TP vent line was cut new and replaced during the installation by your team. When I asked about replacing the water shutoff valve as it was obviously failing, I was told it would be considered an additional job with an extra charge. My understanding is that evaluating and replacing an aging or original water shutoff valve is typically included as part of a proper water heater installation, especially at this price point. I would like clarification on why this was treated as a separate, extra‑cost task rather than part of the standard installation process. I asked about the gas line as well which seemed old and an easy swap. If I would have changed these two valves price changed to $1,700 Additionally, I understand that your company uses flat‑rate pricing. However, flat‑rate pricing does not excuse refusing transparency. (If this was truly a flat-rate when I called they should have given me a ball park estimate. Before install began I asked if I would be able to get an itemized receipt because I need a clear break down of why it is so expensive. I was told I would receive a clear break down of all charges. (The invoice sent was not itemized. Now they refuse to break down charges) Reputable flat‑rate companies will still: * Explain what the flat rate includes * Break down labor vs. materials if asked * Justify the price with a clear scope of work Refusing to itemize is generally a tactic companies use when the price cannot be justified, and I want to ensure that is not the case here. Since the system was fully prepped, drained, and disconnected before your arrival, and since the only materials provided by your team were the replacement drip pan and the TP vent line, I am requesting an itemized breakdown of how the $1,450 labor charge (reduced to $1,305 after the discount) was calculated. Please include: * Labor hours and hourly rate * Any materials you provided (including the replacement drip pan and TP vent line) * Any code-required work performed * Explanation for treating the water shutoff valve replacement as an additional job with an extra charge Once I receive the full breakdown, I can review and determine next steps. Thank you, (Name)
