My youngest really wanted to catch a shark so Captain Justin took us to a great spot and started throwing out bait trying to get some sharks in. We had so many! Several lemon sharks and nurse sharks and 1 bull shark. We reeled in 2 lemon sharks and 1 nurse shark. Captain Justin was so great helping us reel them in and cheering us on! I found Ana Banana through FishingBooker.com. A 4.9 out of 5…read morestars seemed like a no brainer. I checked online to make sure the company was legitimate and called to formally book the trip. We excitedly booked at the end of January for a trip at the beginning of June, making it clear to Capt. Joel that the goal was to catch a sailfish or marlin or something to write home about - a memory our graduate would carry with him for a lifetime. I understand it was a stretch goal, but we quickly realized when we arrived for our very expensive 6 hour deep sea charter ($1600 + $300 tip), that Capt. Joel and his first mate, Eric, only ever intended to bait for Mahi - prey which is plentiful without the "deep sea"journey. The entire trip was a search for Frigate birds - apparently the real fishing guides. The fishing lines may have actually been in the water for only 45 minutes to an hour of the entire trip. We fared some rough, stormy seas to catch some very mediocre baby Mahi - total of 3 caught in what ended up being a 7.5 hour trip - plus a lost sea dinghy that the 1st mate and captain felt was worth retrieving for their own personal gain while we were politely grinning and baring an awful experience of a hopeless fishing expedition. Unfortunately, we got to watch one Mahi filet slip out of the first mate's hands into the ocean when he was cleaning the fish. I have to say, I did feel bad for him being left in the pouring rain to clean our fish while our captain dismissed himself to the indoors. Thankfully the 1st mate's friend came along with an umbrella after 15 minutes or so. At least we had enough for the three of us to have a "cook your catch" dinner at Castaways, along with some Ana Banana consolation fishing shirts and hats to memorialize this unremarkable trip. We were so excited and then so Incredibly dissatisfied with this trip. Please do yourself a favor and skip this Captain and skipper.

I normally don't review but I thought this was worth it. I was told about Chasin' Tail Tours…read morethrough a friend who visited Key West, FL. I called Chasin' Tail Tours the day my girlfriend and I arrived. We arrived on a Wednesday and I asked the gentleman on the phone if he had availability to take me, my girlfriend and four others on Monday for a tour. The gentleman on the phone was very nice and accommodating. Turns out. I was speaking with the owner Rob. I told him I was not looking to fish. We just wanted to be on the water relaxing and soaking up the sun rays. ( since Chicago is freezing). Rob said, "no problem that's what we do, we'll do whatever you want" I asked Rob why the Chasin Tail name? He said, he takes people out to learn and catch lobsters" hence the Chasin' Tails name. We booked for Monday at noon till 6:00pm. He instructed us to bring any sandwiches , snacks and beverages that we might want. He will provide cooler, ice, and lots of bottled water. The six of us arrived at the boat and it was nice and spotless. Rob ( the owner) greeted us graciously and helped us bring on our snacks, sandwiches and lots of beer on the boat. Rob (the owner) ran down some protocols for the boat. Where the life vest were, in case of emergency , etc, etc. Rob (the owner) drove the boat and he seemed very familiar with the waters and made us feel very comfortable. He took us on the water and pointed out everything around Key West. Then we went to an island where there was a row of boats beached on it. We all hopped out , Rob (the owner) set up beach chairs and towels. ( he provided) We walked the island, swam in a lazy river ( no joke it was crazy cool) swung on a swing, and just relaxed. Rob was very relaxed too and let us stay for as long as we wanted. To be honestly we had so much fun, that time flew by. It was six o'clock and Rob said we should get going that there was one more stop we had to make. Even though it was past our time Rob took us to watch the sunset on the Ocean at 6:28pm. IT WAS AMAZING! Thank you Rob! I have to say this was one of the most relaxing things I have done. We didn't want to fish we all just wanted to relax and have fun and not think about the cold hard weather back in Chicago. Ready for this... We all booked him two days later to go lobster catching and snorkeling. Best adventure ever! But that's another review. Can't wait to go back to Key West and book with Chasin Tail Tours again. Seriously, everyone should experience your Tour. Well done Rob! Well done Chasin' Tail Tours! Thank you.

My family and I were in Cudjoe Key a few weeks ago and were happy to find a boat rental…read moreestablishment that had a boat available on a two-day notice. The proprietor or employee, unsure which, was very friendly and worked quickly to get us underway. But, I think the negatives outweighed the few positives. First, the place (a small office on the backside of a multi-use building) was difficult to find. When I did find it, no one was there although I was arriving about 30 mins. prior to my agreed upon rental time. The boat came in about 15 mins late and the Poseidon employee worked very hard to clean the boat, drive down the street to fill gas cans in order to fuel up the boat, and then complete the fueling process. We departed about 40 mins after the rental start time. To his credit, he allowed me to come back as late as an hour after the agreed upon rental period. The boat was a typical rental. It showed its years and usage. It also did not have a working marine radio and the tiny anchor struggled to keep us in one place when we stopped to swim. Most frustrating was the return of the boat and the email notification that I owed $60 for fuel. There was no one at the rental office when we returned. Some older gentleman who presumably knew the owner helped me dock the boat. When I later received an email informing me that I owed $60 for a quarter tank of fuel, I wrote back to the owner explaining that I could not understand the use of about 12 gallons of fuel costing $60 ($5 a gallon). At the time, fuel from the Shell station where he went to purchase fuel prior to my trip was about $2.80 a gallon. He sent me a copy of the contract I signed with a note on the bottom advising that gas would cost $60 per quarter tank. I've never paid that much for gas after a boat rental. I was a bit ticked off. Decent place, but wouldn't give it my business again.
