This review is rather unfortunate, and it was difficult having to write it. Especially knowing that…read morewe've lived here for almost five years without incident. We have an impeccable history with paying our rent on time. There were even where we paid for multiple months. The town home we live in, is well very taken care of. There has been absolutely no updates made to the town home, outside of new windows that were put in for the entire complex. Nevertheless, we're still here and being modeled tenants. Within the last couple of months, a severe smoke smell has been lingering within our townhome unit. Our unit is an end unit, so quite naturally we asked the neighbor if they were smokers. The neighbors said they weren't and so we left it alone, with the hopes that things will get better. Unfortunately, it got no better. It's even more unfortunate when you're not a smoker. The smell consists of smoke as well as marijuana. By this time quite naturally we have had enough. We spoke with the property manager Nicole on 8/15/23. We shared our frustrations and concerns with Nicole. Nicole mentioned how she sent out a message of courtesy around smoking and she was hoping this would fix the issue however it did not. She did mention how neighbors are allowed to smoke in their home. We did not know this, and we take full responsibility for that. At the same time, It's one thing if a person smokes occasionally in their home; but it's another thing when the smell of the smoke impacts another tenants day-to-day living and them being able to focus and enjoy their home. Nicole mentioned that she didn't want to lose us as tenants and that she was open to suggestions that would help to remedy the issue. She even suggested moving into a different townhome if that would maybe solve the issue. She also mentioned that she'll send out another message around smoking. It was decided that we'll put some thought to it and then get back to her. Believe it or not, the smoke smell was strong and heavy again. We said forget it, let's go ahead and reach out to Nicole and see what the process would be to move into a different home and take our chances. We spoke with Nicole on 8/17/23, and when it was all said and done, she advised us that to move it to a different townhome, we would have to pay $600 and our rent would go all the way up to market rent. We're already paying almost $1100; yet the remedy to possibly resolve the smoking issue, is for us to be out of more money, and pay market rent of over $1200. We're left speechless.

Nicole the manager checked numerous times to make sure everything was fine. I greatly appreciate the care and follow up that Nicole and Juan showed. I have been a resident since February 2020 and I could not have found a better place to call home. Thank you Nicole and Juan for everything.

Rental Units DO NOT RENT OR REFER TO VILGAR PROPERTY…read moreMANAGEMENT LLC I do not understand how this company is still in business or being Licensed. Don't ever be afraid to complain about what is going on if you are paying for something that you are not receiving. I had to deal with lack of heat for several days last year and after complaining with no response we had to purchase a Heater to keep from freezing and causing further physical problems that I have disabilities from. They must be paying off the Building Department as I have contacted them on 3 separate occasions including the Director to see if Building is up to Code, and the problem is still not corrected nor have they been fined or issued Violations. They also don't have a Certificate of Occupancy for these Units. During the summer was no Ventilation due to no screens in windows and windows not staying up unless propped open with a heavy object. We've also had to deal with feral cats in building. Finally called Health Dept and was totally berated by Rosa the Health Department person I spoke to. All both departments do is call Liz and tell her there a complaint with no Investigations being done. Finally after waiting on a report which come to find out was never done I spoke to Director of Health and she came out immediately with Rosa and Nurse finding feces in attic, dirty cat litter in yard, window that was being left open so cats can get in and out, can of food and bowl where neighbor has been feeding these lice infested cats in the common area of building, mildew smell coming from basement and dampness. The only thing corrected was feces cleaned up in attic that Liz sent a picture to and no other health or building issues addressed. Mayor Copeland and Chief of Staff of East Chicago claim they care about us and our environment is lying as I have contacted them both in writing and calling office with no acknowledgement. If you do rent from this company realize that they consider basic appliances a PERK. If there are no appliances in unit you have to purchase your own. If there are appliances in unit you have to pay for repair or replacement even if they were broken when arrived to Unit. You pay for utilities which you have no control of who is using how much of what. Most Maintenance Complaints are canceled or signed off as being completed when they haven't been. The only relief given in Small Claims court is for a person to move!! The Manager when asked what temperature in apartment was when claimed the temperature was checked by maintenance claimed she didn't know but stated laughing "I know what I have it on in my house." Letting us know as she was warm she could care less what was going on others homes. Go to a higher Court. I'm letting people know because these buildings are like this with children living there. They are offering present Tenants a Finders Fee for getting new Residents. Please don't let money get family or friends set up for slum conditions that of course are hidden in the Videos they post and when they show you property by bring you in the front entry way. By the time you discover this you are locked into a 2 year Lease. I am a Senior, disabled, and of course low fixed income so moving again after only 9 months is ridiculous. NO, I am not asking for a handout and my Rent is current. I just want to warn people of this Management company and no help from Departments or Mayor that are supposed to have our wellbeing in their best interest. Ching Ching let the Cash Register Ring as the expense of others.
