I had a very frustrating and disappointing experience with Redwood Monroe regarding my move-out process and the charges that followed.
I provided my required 60-day notice to vacate. About 30 days into that notice, I changed my mind and spoke with management. I was told I could not rescind my notice but could remain on a month-to-month basis. Based on that information, I adjusted my plans and believed I had additional time to move.
However, about a week before my original move-out date, I was suddenly told that I could no longer stay month-to-month because another tenant was scheduled to move in. This completely contradicted what I had previously been told and left me scrambling to move with very little notice.
I complied and had everything moved out by March 7th, as instructed. When I attempted to return my keys around 1:30 PM that day, the office was closed--lights off and doors locked. Since it was a Friday, I had to wait until Monday (March 11th). When I returned, the office was again unattended, so I gave my keys to a maintenance staff member who completed a walk-through with me.
Despite doing everything I was told, I was later charged $700 in rent plus a month-to-month fee--for a period when I was no longer living in the unit. This makes no sense. I moved out by the required date, and any delay in key return was due to the office being closed during normal business hours.
To make matters worse, instead of acknowledging the office closure, management claims they were present that day--which is simply not accurate. This lack of transparency and accountability is extremely concerning.
Now this disputed balance has been sent to collections and is affecting my credit.
Overall, this experience reflects poor communication, inconsistent policies, and unfair billing practices. I strongly recommend that future residents get everything in writing and document all interactions with management. Be very cautious if you choose to live here. read more
