I have loved going to the Meadery ever since I was a child, and Redruth is one of the ones we always went to as it was most local.
It is themed in a medieval decor, with wooden tables with benches and the walls are decorated in coats of arms, armour, swords etc.
There are candles on the tables and the food is served on wooden plates and in wooden bowls. No cutlery is given unless either your dish requires it or you request it.
The signature dish is chicken in the rough, which is half a chicken cooked in a special oven with super tasty crispy skin. It is normally served with chips (although salad or half salad and half chips is an option) and the portions are big enough for large appetites!
There is a good choice on the menu including starters, mains and desserts (including vegetarian choices) and even copies of the menu are sold as people like them so much!
The other key thing they sell is mead, which is a honey liquor (the drink of love apparently!) and this can be bought to drink with your meal or in bottles to take away.
The waitresses are dressed like serving wenches and even used to go barefoot, but I don't think they are allowed to do that anymore!
A fantastic restaurant, pretty much my favourite place to eat out! read more
