I've been a regular client of Redge Salon since I moved to NYC back in 2017. I've tried a few other Japanese salons in the city, and I find that Redge is an excellent option in terms of quality and value. The staff here are welcoming and friendly. Before COVID, you would be able to enjoy a tea while having your hair cut, but this isn't happening right now. Would recommend coming to see any of their stylists, especially Emma. read more

I started going to Redge many years ago after my stylist of 10+ years started working there. When she left New York, I called Redge to get recommendations for a new stylist. Anil (the owner) provided me with several suggestions and also went a step further to let me know about two special promotions they were having so I wouldn't miss out on them. There's a lot of trust involved with any haircut and it can be quite unnerving to have your hair cut by someone you don't know -- but I trusted that Redge had great stylists, since I loved my former stylist so much, and they led me to Lisa! Lisa was amazing on all fronts! She took time to understand what I wanted, cut carefully and methodically, and did several "mirror checks" so I could see what was going to happen and how things looked before doing final trimming. Lisa was also consultative about what I was doing and ideas for what I might do next. In the end I chopped 8 inches and really LOVE my new cut -- thank you Lisa!!! Anil and Regina (salon co-owners) were so amazing in helping me get a last minute appointment (even as a first time patron) to get my hair cut and colored. They were both so accommodating, especially with my very inflexible work schedule and need to get it done soon. I saw Regina for a hair cut and color. They had me send in pictures which showed me they were invested in helping me get the look I wanted. Regina and I discussed my concerns and made a plan together. She was very meticulous with the service and I am very happy. My appointment was at the Annex (across from other location) and its a gorgeous location with lots of plants and exposed brick walls. There was lots of space and I felt safe covid-wise. We wore our masks for the entire appointment. I'll be here for any ensuing services and will be referring anybody who asks to Redge. I love the new Annex across the street from the Redge Salon! Emma did a beautiful job of cutting my hair along with a consultation with Saeko on a new natural hair color that gave my hair a shimmer and sheen like never before from a single process hair color in a brown tone. Saeko also did a cut and color for my husband at the same time and the color was healthier looking and shimmering than ever before and seemed to last longer and as always she does a wonderful job while at the same time both putting us at ease! There is a pure zen feeling of relaxation with a beautiful fig plant and ultrasonic mist and soft gold leaf drawer pulls and blonde wood that counteract the stress of the day and everyone wearing masks. read more

I'm so happy I followed you to Redge, from getting a haircut (my first time getting curtain bangs) from you last year to getting the subtle balyage I've been wanting for a couple years now!! I started going to this salon pre-pandemic at their previous location. I had seen multiple stylists & was always very happy. During the pandemic, I moved to Brooklyn and started going to a local stylist. Recently, I went back to Redge Annex, and I was so happy, I think I will continue to come back. The new location is very nice. The stylists are all very nice & knowledgeable. I recently had Bianca, and she transformed my hair. I was not enthusiastic about how a previous cut/color turned out from a different salon, and she understood the corrections I needed and that I needed reassurance as I was a little nervous. I'm one of those crazy people who gets anxious at haircuts lol. In 3 years of living in NYC, I've never gotten my hair cut here because it's either $200 or I just don't trust new people. I think I found my new spot! I came with longgggg one length hair and I got exactly what I wanted, some length off with long layers. I found this salon in the Asian Creative Network on Facebook and this place is an absolute gem. I got my hair bleached with a peek a boo hairstyle; my stylist Saeko was very gentle on my hair since I'm bleaching it for the first time, the process is so seamless that I barely felt any pain/burning when I got my hair bleached. When I moved to NYC 4-years ago, I knew it would be difficult to find a hairdresser I liked as much as the one I had been using for the previous 15-years. But I lucked out and found Koko at Redge Annex, in the East Village. Both the annex and the main location are just a few blocks apart. I was looking for a funky asymmetrical cut and some highlights. And since that cut, I've been going back to see Koko, ever since. My hair is thick and a bit wavy, and most of the time, other hair salons do a lousy job of texturing and thinning it out. Koko knows how to cut! And color. Highlights, balayage, ombré, etc. I've always been happy with what she does. The salon is great - cozy, and unpretentious. I'm just utterly shocked and disappointed. I brought in a photo and my hair looks nothing like the photo. I'm not even sure I got the stylist that I chose through their booking site. I really don't know who did my hair today but there's absolutely no sign of my hair being done by a professional. It's extremely choppy there's no finish to it. She just cut half of my hair in the front and called it bangs. She asked me what do I think of the cut. I'm like... I don't like it and I'm paying and going now... I don't want her to attempt to fix my hair. I just can't believe my experience is nothing like the experiences here on yelp. Did people who received not the best experience not write reviews? Amazing work by Regina who is in this location I believe only Wed, Thurs aNd Fridays. She listens to what you want and always is honest with her opinions and suggestions. She is usually spot on. The ONLY reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the fact that as far as color and cut she is truly a work of art... When it comes to the styling aspect I am not blown away. I only say this because I always leave there with totally flat hair. Perhaps I will mention something the next time. Worst hair color experience I've ever had. I asked Toshi for a dark brown color and he completely fried my hair with bleach and it is now so orange. My hair is completely destroyed. On top of that, I found Toshi very condescending and pushy. I am so upset about my hair. On top of that, he charged me so much. I told him that my hair color does not match the photo with the hair color I wanted and he completely denied it even though there was such a big difference. After he said he was done and I left, I noticed there was still a plastic on the back of my neck. He forgot to clean it up. So unprofessional. read more

I needed an updo FAST, because I was rushing and running late to my best friends wedding as her bridesmaid! (I have a tendency to procrastinate, oyvey). Redge Annex (and the regular Redge salon, though I prefer the Annex because it's smaller and adorable-r) is my go-to salon. I've had my hair cut by several people, and although they vary in skill, I generally leave satisfied. The hairdressers rotate between locations so call to see where your preferred one is. Everyone I've encountered is super sweet and welcoming. I had a cut yesterday by Regina, who is outstanding. She clearly understands hair, and it shows in her meticulous work. She gave me one of the best cuts of my life, and she's patient and friendly to boot. Definitely try to catch her at the Annex. Cuts are around $60-$70 for medium-long length hair, though it varies depending on what you get. Reasonable for a good cut. read more

She worked with me in trying to acheive what I was after without damaging my hair even more. I did not have to pay for this appointment, but I did tip since she did spend a good amount of time on my hair. I did not mind, I think this is fair. If I could love this hair salon, my hair stylist Emi and my friend who reccomended me this place any more, I would. You know the satisfaction that you get when you eat a good meal or when you watch a good movie or when the dress from your favorite store fits you like it was made for you? Well, I never got that feeling ever when I got my haircut from any place for last dizillion times until I found Redge Annex and my stylist Emi. Emi takes 1.5 hours to the least to give you a haircut. Compared to the expensive/unsatisfactory places in the city, Redge Annex is affordable when it comes to the quality of service you get here. I haven't been to a Salon beside Redge Annex that gives you a 15 min head, neck and shoulder massage on top of the hair massage, shampoo and conditioner. Their stylist are very experienced, skilled and communicative. They inspect you hair, they explain to you every move they are going to take with your hair and they give you a great haircut. I love Regina! I followed her from her original Redge store on 10th St. btwn 1st Ave and Ave A. The annex is a relatively new location to attract more foot traffic to her booming business. Regina works wonders with my hair. She's very interesting to watch and she works her magic on my thick and uncompromising hair. She's such a perfectionist and I feel like she somehow sees every strand of hair and coaxes it into working for her. This is a great little salon! It's tiny and peaceful, a reasonable price, and Koko does a GREAT job cutting my hair. I only cut my hair 2-3 times a year and it always grows out nicely. I also love that they're quick (but NOT rushed). I hate sitting in salons for hours and they're good about getting you out within an hour. It's takes a while to book an appointment, so make sure to do so in advance. They're even open on Sundays! read more

Tomoko, who is at Redge Annex now, has been cutting my hair for over a decade. This is the third salon that I have followed her to. Needless to say, I am a big big fan. She works with your hair type and gives you great advice and pointers on styling. For instance, my hair is naturally wavy but not in the direction I would like..... Really pleased with my short, straight haircut (which most haircutters easily butcher), the undercut action at the back, and the pre-cut shampoo and massage. It looks like she really read my hair. This time, I got my haircut by Yuka. I've gotten my hair cut by Redge and Emi, and today, Yuka. Five stars for this salon should be assumed, bc everyone here is the real deal. Yuka spent some time asking me what I was aiming for and gave me exactly what I asked for. My hair is damaged from chemical straightening, and it looked messy from a previous bad haircut from another salon several months ago, and she fixed the mess. I really should make the effort to come to Redge rather than be lazy and go somewhere closer to just get a sub par haircut. I am growing out my hair and it was previously cut in choppy layers. She gave me a trim and cut soft layers around the front to make my face look smaller. She also cut my hair to grow out nicely and gave me great advice afterwards about styling, product application and when to get my hair cut again. Thanks Yuka! read more
