Pasha stands out. She turns the old stories upside down. I never thought I would work with a personal trainer. But Pasha is different...and I decided I'm worth the investment to meet my wellness goals as an entrepreneur and mother in my mid-40s! I came to Pasha with some injuries (shoulder issues and SI Joint Dysfunction) and a desire to get stronger and to find relief from chronic stress. I was feeling frustrated because although I live a pretty active life, I have not been able to stick to a strength training routine at home. I don't have time to drive the 30 minutes to the gym (and do not enjoy myself in these settings). Pasha worked with me one-on-one to develop a sensible, fun, and customized program that I could stick to in the comfort of my own HOME . She is incredibly encouraging, highly intuitive, and wise. I feel so nurtured and supported in her presence. She has helped me see just how active I already am, and has helped me celebrate in a new way. Rather than beating myself up about what I'm NOT doing, I'm focusing on what I AM doing. This mindset shift has allowed me to look forward to my exercises, and I naturally want to keep going and see how strong I can get. I've had sessions in the studio, but also a Zoom video session where I felt like she was right in my home with me! The whole session was recorded too. Amazing! So during those times that I can't drive to the studio, I can Zoom with Pasha and stay on track. I highly recommend working with Pasha. She has also just launched an amazing program: ROAR with LAUGHTER"

A chilly Saturday afternoon was perfect for stepping through this yoga studio's door. The lobby area was clean and well organized. Coat hooks and cubbies for belongings, curtained off changing stalls and benches for readying for practice, and items for sale for any level yogi. The woman running the workshop was friendly and remembered my name from the facebook event page. Oddly enough this was comforting to know that she wanted to put faces and names together. I had done all the paperwork and payment online so she invited me to settle in where I felt comfortable. I found my spot near a wall located near the exit (I don't like he feeling of being surrounded) and made myself comfortable. I listened to the many people that were chatting and milling about. All runners of course, of all levels. I have always found comfort and familiarity with this clan of people, being brought up in a family that all ran and a dad that did marathons. What a great way to keep connections open during the cold months as a runner. As people settled in and squished in, the yoga instructor introduced herself and encouraged questions during the two hour workshop. She stated it would not be very "zen" as this was a time to explore how to help each person with their running and stretching. Yoga began and it was pretty apparent by the grunts and questions that their were many non-yogis present, but all were and felt welcomed to share this experience. As a group we learned many stretches we didn't realize was important to running nor did I know they existed. I found the two hours to fly by due to how intriguing and new a lot of it was. I again will say I look forward to going to some of their regular classes and maybe another workshop. The woman running this workshop was very knowledgable about all that we did and would use many stretches as a time to educate us on the stretch and how it affects us. I only hesitate on the workshop due to the amount of people she let join this workshop. She capped it at 25 I believe and this room just was not meant for that many. Maybe 20? I did a few stretches half way due to having to squish up to the wall and having a lady's mat around 6 inches from mine. At one point when doing a floor stretch, her leg hovered over my shoulder while I was laying down. Too close for comfort I will say.

The studio is located near Bow Street Market in Freeport, with plenty of parking. There is an extensive schedule with plenty of class options to fit your needs, and the classes are clearly labelled with useful descriptions to help you choose the best fit for you. Terry the owner is an excellent instructor, and I always learn something new in her classes. Great queuing, plenty of modifications offered both up and down, and an all around great community vibe. She is also a runner and offers runner specific classes. Well worth the drive up from Portland, or down from the coast. Easily the best yoga studio I've found in Southern Maine.

Moving from Texas, I have been on the search for a new yoga studio to call my home. Lila East End…read moreis a small studio where the mats face each other, you WILL be squeezed next to other people. In the middle, is a narrow path way for the instructor to pass through and to demonstrate. This is not your customary practice, but hey it's a new place so why not try something new? Came in to an "All Levels Yoga" with Chelsea. Chelsea, is an incredibly beautiful person inside and out. It's hard not to be mesmerized by her! However... this definitely felt more like a Beginners class. It is great if you're just starting or you've been out of practice for awhile. Chelsea has all the best intentions, but I tend to get lost (not mesmerized) by her verbiage. In yoga, a flow should be easy to follow just by closing your eyes and listening to what the instructor is saying. You follow through continuously, and that's what creates "The Flow". I've practiced for 9 years now, but for some odd reason, I WAS LOST. My feet were everywhere thinking this position was something new, when in reality, I'VE DONE WARRIOR POSES HUNDREDS OF TIMES. WHY COULDN'T SHE JUST SAY THAT. She ended class with everyone in Savasana... and proceeded to sing. I was definitely thrown off by that, but was strangely comforted by her soothing "Mom Voice" at the same time, And so, the search continues.

I was staying at The Press Hotel, about a 7-10 minute scenic stroll from here and decided to do a drop-in class at noon on a Thursday with Heather. The room is extremely inviting and comfy, with a perfect temperature (I dislike extremely warm rooms) and just enough natural light. Mats face each other, which I'm not used to, but it's definitely the way to optimize the long narrow space. Heather's class was playful, at times a bit more intense, but I'd say this is an all levels class, verging more on the gentle side. What I liked most about it was the departure from "typical" sun salutations. I get the idea that you can expect something a little different from class to class. Heather is an excellent instructor, kind and patient. If I lived in the area, I definitely would be a regular in her class. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to Portland so that I may return to this sweet spot!

Katey is so easy going and down to earth that I immediately relaxed after meeting her. She genuinely loves and cares about the wide variety of people who come to her studio, and after finding out I was new in town, she would recommend me an event each week that I could go to and meet people if I wanted to. Thanks to her I discovered the Alan Day Community Garden, where I enjoy caring for my garden plot and "sneaking" into the greenhouse to eat fresh peas, and I discovered a community at the Lights Out Gallery where I've made some incredible friends and had the honor of helping Pamela Anne Moulton work on some incredible larger than life sculptures, with the help of my little dog. Katey taught me it doesn't matter if you can't do any of the poses. Yoga is about getting in touch with yourself and appreciating the body and mind you have. I recommend Halls Pond Healing Arts to anyone who is interested in yoga, new in town, old in town, wants to try something new, or would appreciate adding an hour of relaxation to their week. She really is the benchmark for yoga greatness!
