Home Bistro - Example of a bundled meal. The fontina cheese sauce is good, the brussel sprouts were my favorite :)

A letdown. I ordered the Top 10 Favorites for my Mom for Christmas. When she was hospitalized…read moreshortly thereafter I stayed at her house and tried a few. Because I am a pescatarian I tried the tofu meal and the Mediterranean cod. I have a very hard time believing that the braised tofu is a top choice among your customers. It was the worst tofu I have ever had. Spongy, dry, flavorless. The cod was passable but certainly not gourmet quality. I cooked the risotto exactly as package directions said, the inside was still frozen. So I reheated in microwave but the rest of the meal was now cold. So reheated that in the microwave. Now the cod was overdone. These were very expensive meals and not any better than grocery store variety frozen food.

So far I have eaten two of the meals included in the package I ordered -- Mediterranean Chicken with Artichoke Sauce and the Orzo with Peccorino Superbowl. Let's just say I am seriously underwhelmed. The superbowl came not in a bowl but in a plastic bag with instructions that referred to leaving the lid on while cooking. Huh? The chicken was fairly tasty, but the meal came in 4 different boiling bags, each with its own timeline, so it wasn't exactly easy to prepare. The boiled french fries had a consistency about what you would expect. For this price I could have had a pretty nice meal at a lot of restaurants. I cannot imagine why this company is still in business.

DineWise is a meal preparation service that has been providing both gourmet and nutritional meals…read moreto customers for over 45 years. They have a longstanding reputation of quality prepared meals and certainly have no lack of meal options, providing an array of choices to mix and match, or choose a standard type of meal. This company may have the largest prepared meal menu in the country, including easy-to-shop categories such as beef, poultry, Italian, seafood, and breakfast. They also have a full holiday menu. I highly recommend you subscribe to their newsletter, like I do, because they offer some amazing special offers for registered members. I purchased a gourmet meal package of nine meals for $159.99. With my email discount, I saved $48, making the cost of the package $111.99, and $12.44 per meal. I felt like a happy customer before I tasted anything. My first meal was the Blackened Catfish with Roasted Red Potatoes and Seasoned Carrots. I just love your American catfish; it is truly a treat to experience, and it doesn't have to be fried to taste delicious. The blackened seasoning is nothing short of the perfect match to this white meat fish. The Roasted Red Potatoes will always be a little better if you toss them on a skillet for a few seconds, but they are still very good. I would have preferred a green vegetable instead of carrots, but they were good, and still had a crunchy texture. I should have bought a case of these amazing prepared meals for $12.44. Next I had the Beef Sirloin Steak with Morel Sauce, a Risotto Rice Cake, and the Corn and Red Pepper Asparagus. This meal normally sells for $21, so it was a great value at $12.44. This is a real piece of steal cooked to a perfect medium rare, which allows you some room to reheat it without drying it out. It may be a sirloin, but it cuts and eats like a filet mignon. The Morel Mushroom Sauce is a perfect complement too. The Risotto Rice Cake is not creamy like a typical Risotto, but the flavors are there, and it makes a wonderful side. The Asparagus is infused with a very flavorful sherry vinaigrette. My taste buds went around the plate, bite after bite, saying, "Wow this is good." The flavor profiles of the meal components are outstanding. Well done Chef! In my opinion, the goal of cooking American comfort food is consistency, and not to re-invent the wheel. This Beef Stuffed Pepper falls right into that category. If your Mum made them for you, chances are you will appreciate the homemade culinary skill that went into the preparation of this meal. The meat is delicious, and the rice is perfectly proportioned to the size of the entree. The pepper isn't mushy, and retains a crunchy texture that makes this meal a winner in my book. The rice side dish might be the most flavorful rice dish on their menu, and I'm pretty sure it only appears in this dish. The string beans with little wedges of almonds make for a nice texture. This is a great value at $12.44. I received two of these meals in my package.

Last night I didn'feel like cooking so I made the Brioche crusted chicken breast…read moredinner.....delicious, even my picky husband likrd it. The chicken breast breading tasted terrific with just the right amount of seasonings and the chicken was nice and tender. The green beans were slightly sift but the flavoring was very good. Finally the Spainish rice was quite tasty and nicely done, not mushy. I don't expect perfection with premade mail order meals but this one was very good. I admit there were some Home Bistro meals that were just okay and even one meal that I threw out. It just depends on the meal, how it's cooked, and your tastes. Overall I was quite impressed with this meal.

My brother has always wanted to try this place, but we never had a chance to actually step foot inside the Library Cafe. As the name suggests, the restaurant sits at the site of the old town library, and the bar area has tall shelves and a rolling ladder to pay homage to the name. To maximize the restaurant week menu, three of us tried different appetizers. The ahi tuna taco was the best of the lot- crispy shell and nicely prepared tuna filling. The Thai calamari was a little too overcooked and the sweet sauce was cloying. I didn't get to try too much of the French onion soup because my dad almost inhaled it whole, but it was gooey and comforting. I had the honey-soy glazed salmon with broccolini. The salmon was a little dry, but the glaze and cashew went well with it. Maybe a touch of spice could have improved the dish. The broccolini was nicely textured and not too bitter. My mom's fish and chips were underwhelming, though the not-proper "chips" were well fried and seasoned. It was not served with vinegar either. My brother had the Buddha bowl which he enjoyed and felt was a good health conscious option. I did love that they allowed my dad -- who was not feeling too well-- to order just an entree while the rest of the table had the restaurant week menu. I know some restaurants require all members of the table to order off the prix fixe menu sometimes. He had the burger, which was cooked very precisely to medium-rare. We did have dessert though we were stuffed at this point. The sticky toffee pudding cake was lovely, moist, and so decadent without being overly heavy. I ordered the wild berry cheesecake, and while the clearly house made berry compote was a nice touch, it was just a little underwhelming next to the sticky toffee pudding. Overall, we had a good time at the Library Cafe, and though service was a little slow due to sudden rush of diners, it was a fun little weekday dinner. I did see signs for their happy hour, which I'd love to try-- especially their cocktails named after writers!

Never went to a bar that needed a rolling ladder to access the top shelves. The high ceilings ( believe it was a renovated library ) even allowed for a small sailboat to be displayed above the main entrance foyer. Shout out to the staff. We were immediately welcomed by the bartender and informed we could sit anywhere rather than wait to be seated. Our server Annie was exceptional: welcoming, friendly and attentive with some appreciative suggestions from the menu. The menu, excluding the St Patrick's March Menu, was your typical American bar pub food fare: appetizers, sandwiches, burgers and limited entrees. Started off with the onions soup which was cheesy but light on onion slices but very good. Passed on the St Pats March Menu ( except for the Guinness beer ) and stuck with sandwich options. The sandwiches came with a side ( other sides available with an up charge). The sliced steak sandwich, roast beef French Dip sandwich and classic burger were all cooked to perfection and served with either a salad or waffle fries. The Library features an extensive cocktail menu with creative names of famous authors and even novels. In addition there is a separate open air event area ( above and overlooking the restaurant floor ) for private events or parties. Overall a great place to grab a drink and enjoy some good food that's reasonably priced. Definitely will be back when in the area again. One note Street parking is limited but there are municipal parking lots nearby.
