A man outside said, 'sorry we are closed'.. Looking bewildered and mentioning the time (again 440p) we told him that we live an hour and a half away and that it was our wedding anniversary, and his response 'ohhhhh no'.. No explanation as to why he closed a full 20+ minutes early (he was already outside and getting into his truck) nor an offer to open up for the final 20 minutes; then he got in his truck and left. Will be reporting this to the Illinois Antique Association, as that's the shop guide we followed for the day. To keep this shop in your pamphlet is an immense disservice to those using it!

I've been to Stuff for Sale a number of times over the last couple of years and I would have to…read moreagree that "stuff for sale" is the best description of this spacious shop. You never really know what you're going to find wandering through here. Some items I've seen on previous visits include sheet music, accordions, furniture, jewelry, old farming memorabilia, dolls, dishes, and old periodicals. Trust me, though, that's just the tip of the iceberg. If you're from either of the coasts, you'll be delighted to find that prices here are substantially below what you'd see in many other parts of the country. If you're passing through the area on I-70 and you love antiques, do yourself a favor and stop. You might snag a bargain. It's also conveniently located by the Goodwill store, a good Mexican Restaurant (Los Amigos), and a Little Caesars. The negatives? Well, if you have extreme allergies, you might not like the dust - but that's a given when it comes to antique stores. Depending on when you're trying to stop in, you may also find it difficult to catch them when they're open. This isn't the Super Wal-Mart, and they're not around 24/7.

We were in Charleston, IL for a friend's wedding and had hours to kill so we hit every antique shop…read morewithin 10 miles. We started out at Persimmon Lane and blew our entire budget there. It was a waste and a let down to even hit the other stores because all we could think of was everything we coveted at Persimmon Lane that we preferred to spend our money on so we came back a second time at the end of the day and spent more than we budgeted for and have no regrets. If our car was larger, we would have bought even more. Now we have a reason to come down to Charleston again. We haven't found an antique shop this great in three years, and the owners are the nicest, most helpful people you will find anywhere in retail. If you love industrial antiques, you will not leave Persimmon Lane without something cool. We bought a complete transit with box, instructions, and even receipt from 1948. The original owner paid $100.00, and we paid $130.00 - 64 years later. We thought it was a reproduction, it was in such perfect shape. We bought two, identical load cells from a large scale for $40.00 each, and lastly, we bought a Tandy, computerized chess game for $15.00. We didn't have room in the car for a giant, handmade, wood pulley for $95.00 that would have made an amazing coffee table. There were railroad spikes 4 for $10.00. If I had a better imagination, I would have bought them too. Persimmon Lane has an etsy page (very limited selection from their shop) and a facebook page (lots of updated photos of new stock) so I think I'll be shopping online from them. My friend in Charleston will be getting a gift certificate from Persimmon Lane for Christmas, as he told me he shops there once a week. How I envy his access!

As…read morethey have sections to place your intended purchases up by the register we made multiple trips and had probably more than twenty or thirty items. To our disbelief, the owner asked my husband if he intended to pay for a red glass bowl that was in his pocket. Confused and deeply insulted, he emptied his pockets to prove her mistake and we left. To accuse someone of theft when they're making a marked effort to bring items up to the register seems odd. Why would we bother to place a hundred dollars or more worth of items by the register? Needless to say they not only lost the sale today but we won't be back and are not able to recommend this establishment to anyone.

We went to this place and found several items that we placed on the front desk throughout our time shopping. We had thirty or so items on the desk by the end of our time there. Upon checkout, the lady at the front desk accused me of shoplifting a bowl. I have never stolen anything in my life or been accused of stealing, and didn't really even know how to respond. If I were going to steal something, why would I put thirty items on the desk to pay for??? This made no sense u til I read reviews on several different platforms. Looks like I am not the only one to experience this from the people that own this shop. The people running this place are clowns. Do not go there!!! My wife and I left a Facebook review and they blocked us. That alone tells me they know they were wrong!!!
