Dont see lavender farms in the south. Cool to visit for something quick. Neat to pick.

I had a wonderful time at red oak. The owners were out and sharing all the information they have learned about growing lavender in Georgia. They want to see others become successful too. The day was perfect, the fields were beautiful. The best part is that you can go and just spend the day on the property and not spend a dime. It's a great day outting and time to rejuvenate yourself

The lavender my husband and I picked.

This is worth the stop if the lavender is in season and if your near. I agree with some of the other reviews. The farm is smaller. They have done a good job of making their home's property useful by growing lavender. I would suggest going when it is less crowded. I found the staff friendly and helpful.

We came to the "Lavender Festival" we saw advertised on a calendar of events in Georgia. Lavender is a wonderful, wonderful plant that smells amazing, but the farm was not what we were expecting. The entire farm was pretty small, and the "festival" was overrun (presumably with Atlantans like us); the staff were clearly not prepared for the crowd. The farm is cute, but I think they need to work on their logistics for next year - we waited almost 45 minutes in line and still didn't even make it into the store to buy their products! We paid our $5 each to pick small bouquets (which works out to .20 per stem) and left because of the lines to do anything else.

Rustic, charming, hand built tasting room with a sweet relaxation patio to take in the views and sip on some wine. Matt, one of the owners, was a great host, filling us in with the history of SAF, and his vision for the place. I really hope he and his family are successful. It's off the beaten path, but worth the visit. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is I'm not that big a fan of fruit/sweet wines, which is what they are known for. But, I will say that SAF offers many wines that appeased a moderate level of sweetness I can enjoy (I think there were 4 or 5 really sweet ones out of the 20 or so you could choose from). The Rosé Muscadine was something I could see myself enjoying on a hot afternoon by the pool, so bought a bottle. I also was pleasantly surprised by the Lemon Strawberry wine. They have tasting room in Helen also, but you won't get the same experience as the Alto location.

It ranges from pint to quart and gallon. The front desk admin saw we had a little one with us and advised which part of the field had lower berries for him to access. There were plenty of berries and I would highly recommend visiting this farm. There are two main shaded areas with chairs and benches. It also has a mini swing set and slide which was perfect for our almost 2 year old. They also offer water, soft drinks and some snacks for purchase. Definitely bring a sunhat and sunscreen when going on a sunny day. Also the ground can be wet so stick with closed toe shoes too. Tip: check their Facebook page to see if they are open before heading out as they may not open due to over picking.

Easy parking and inside the store we were ok with the quart sized box. The friendly folks reminded us to bend the long branches to get at the top for larger and juiciest blueberries. We see families enjoying their time at the Cool Springs Blueberry Farm. The picking was a bit of an exercise as the blueberry plants were in rows on grassy and sloping grounds. The container is filled, and we are taking ours home. We were glad we came.

It stated they had 5 food different vendors and also hot dog and burgers on the weekends. What they did not specify was that you had to pay for admission ($22 on Sunday) to get into the area where the food vendors were my husband and I just wanted to buy apples and have lunch and not do the whole pick your own apples and all the rides for kids. So just a heads up if you're looking for lunch, you have to pay to get in. The free area only has the burgers and hot dogs. We did end up getting apple pies and they had about 8 varieties of fill your bag apples that day. 1/4 peck for $6, not too bad! Pickled up some apple butters and preserved as well. Quick check out line, and nice cashiers.

Hillcrest Orchards at the very least needs to reinvest in their property. Perhaps at one time they were posh and polished but now, the attractions are run down and very dated. The entire property needs a facelift, paint and a good scrubbing. We enjoyed the pig races, of course, but the athletic area is worn down and pretty darn yucky. I think they can do so much better. Next year, we will return to BJ Reece!
