I had wanted braces for a while. Most people didn't notice, but I had mild issues on my top row of…read moreteeth and moderate crowding on the bottom. I went to several consultations over the years, but it was not until a few months ago that I decided to finally do something about it. On September 1, 2020, I went for a braces consultation here. I knew that Birmingham Orthodontics does same day braces so I had my teeth cleaned by my general dentist a couple weeks prior. At the consultation, I had X-rays, pictures, and an examination of my teeth. After that, the orthodontist told me I was a good candidate for braces. He also said I could get my braces same day, which I chose to do. I paid and then I got my braces on. It was an easy process. I was not in any pain during or after the braces being installed. I have been back twice since my braces were initially installed. Each time, the staff has taken precautions for Covid-19 and has been prompt and professional. When I ask questions, they have been answered. My treatment so far has been great! My teeth are moving well! I'm looking forward to this journey to straighter teeth. The orthodontist we had was a very nice older gentleman that takes the time to understand what is needed and quickly determines the path that is needed... and if you are ready, and they can fit you in they can put them on right after the initial consult. That is what we opted for... now as far as the "tune ups" every 6 weeks, these are pretty quick as well. My daughter is only back there for about 15 minutes. Now not knowing anything about braces as I never had the opportunity as a child. Needless to say braces are a lot of work as well to maintain. My daughter was not fully prepared but is finally getting the idea. I will say do your research on additional items you need. Like little brushes for "in between tooth paste brushing. Also listen very close to the instruction, these are not a suggestion but mandatory. If you do not take care of these they can actually damage your teeth... all of this information is give. To once the braces are on. As far as cost... yeah it is kinda expensive, but if you need to you can finance them... All in all we are really happy with this place, and I would recommend anyone here to get their teeth straightened.

My 6-year-old and 10-year-old do not like their dental appointments, but today, they were put at ease. Dare I say, they will probably not be apprehensive of their follow-up in the Fall. The lobby caters to kids of all ages. There are tablets mounted on the walls with games that kids will like, a tv playing children's programming, and toys the smaller kids would enjoy. The office even has WiFi so us parents have something to enjoy. When my kids went to the back, Dr. Crawford-McKendall and her assistant made sure to explain what they were doing each step of the way. They also talked to the kids about the importance of brushing and flossing in a kid-friendly, positive way. The doctor also explained any concerns she had to me and told me what I steps I can help the kids take to ensure they continue to have great teeth. I'll definitely bring my boys back and I highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a pediatric dentist for their children.

Several years ago, Dr. Tucker retired and sold the practice to another dentist. It seems like the practice changed hands a few times, as I felt like I saw a different dentist every visit for a while. While I was in college, I got some new retainers made by Dr. Tucker to help with grinding teeth at night, etc. The invisalign machine came with 4 sets of these retainers. I took two of the sets home with me, and the staff assured me that they would keep the other two sets safe for when I needed them down the road. As I was in college at the time, moving around a lot, I agreed that that sounded like the safer option. After Dr. Tucker's departure, I inquired about by retainers, and the new staff informed me that anything they had kept for anybody was gone, and nobody knows where it went. No clue who - if anybody - is at fault here, but it's upsetting to me that something of mine, that was not cheap, was lost. In addition to the retainers, I found myself getting contrary advice about the types of fillings that Dr. Tucker did. I got some silver fillings, which Dr. Tucker assured me were the better option as they would last longer, about 20 years. Now, maybe 4 years later, I'm hearing that I need to redo these fillings. The people here are great! Appointments run very smoothly, everything is very comfortable. Due to this string of events, I have decided to seek dental work elsewhere, and get a fresh perspective on the silver fillings.

We are new parents with a child that checked all…read morethe boxes for a tongue-tie yet went undiagnosed by several hospital professionals for 3 or so weeks. Other tongue-tie specialists were "booked" and were giving several weeks minimum before we could get an initial appointment! As a parent with a child in pain - this is a brutal thought! Dr. Baxter reserves appointment times for parents in these sort of emergency situations. He cares deeply and has HIGH integrity with his patients while also exhibiting strong leadership skills with his staff. The entire office experience from start to finish is one of compassionate care. I always had enough time to comfort and nurse my little one before and after my appointment in a private room away from everything. I could easily access our medical records at any time and all my questions were acknowledged and answered. oh, I almost forgot. We received a phone call the afternoon after our tongue-tie surgery from Dr. Baxter himself checking-in on our child's status and he gave us insights and alleviated any fears about post-op procedures. We also could text a phone number at any time, as needed. The next morning a friend reached out to his dental office, Birmingham Smiles, and I was provided emergency care within a few hrs. My distress was obvious, but all staff were warmly special and helped to de-stress me. Excellent, and expedient care was provided by Mary and Dr Nolan.
