And then on Monday, I met Raegan and Brooklyn who work alongside Dr. Adam in the surgical room/suite. It seems to me, that both Raegan and Brooklyn are very skilled and sensitive people, because I was a wee bit nervous and excited at the same time. I liked the other dentist and put off finding a new one for awhile. A friend recommend Dr Sampson because he liked him so much. So I decided to give him a try. I got appointments the same week as I called so I was really happy about that! My appointment was for a checkup and teeth cleaning. I filled out the new patient paperwork and went right back for my appointment. I already knew that I needed a couple of crowns and I told Dr Sampson I wanted them done within the month because I was going out of the country. A few days later, I was back in the chair for my crowns. Dr. Sampson's assistant was quick and efficient and had me prepped for Dr Sampson in no time. Dr Sampson is very nice and was concerned about my comfort and made sure there was no pain involved. He really is very warm and caring. I forewarned the office that my daughter didn't like going to the dentist and that they needed to be prepared. The person who cleaned her teeth was super sweet and was so nice throughout the whole thing. No tears this time! All went well. Afterwards I asked her what she thought and she said she liked Dr Sampson's office better! Yay! Looks like we found a new dentist!

I made the appointment and I still didn't know who dialed the number. I got there I was shaking, shaking I mean scared. Dr. Vance looked at me he said I can see how scared you are with just exrays. I made it through with Dr. Vance and his beautiful nurse. And so my journey began. I had not been to a dentist not even to take someone for an appointment. Y'all I was to scared to cry. Dr. Vance I had never met anyone like him. My appointment was in the afternoon and for him to still be as wonderful as he was still just wonderful. And I can't remember the beautiful caring nurse name. She helped me so much. Y'all I knew this was going to be a long process. If Dr. Vance could see my fear and make me feel at ease for just pics of my rotted out teeth. I remember I was trying to get food and chewing and teeth breaking as I'm eating. Sooo many years of people staring at mumble nasty comments. My family didn't treat me no different. But I tried to distance my self from the staring and this kid I was working at a grocery store and I would hear his song all I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth. I suffered silently and I hated me because I was a coward and I wanted to be brave. But God say peace be still. He did not disappoint. I was super embarrassed, but Dr. Vance didn't judge me at all. What was even more shocking was that he was able to get started right away. I am happy that I found a dentist to restore my dental health back to where it should be. This is hands down Best Dentist in Birmingham. The hygienist was very informative and checked all boxes for cost and expenses that I needed as i inquired on certain issues. My cleaning was done with care and after she was done Dr Wiley came in and gave an additional check up. Both were professional and polite. I do recommend this place.

The goal was to find one that was in our insurance network, and also one close enough to allow for mid-workday visits w/out causing too much interruption of the day. So, out of the blue I settled on Valleydale Dental, and apparently my hands are magic b/c I hit the jackpot. The facilities are very easy to find and are very clean and modernly-furnished - the patient area is basically a wide-open space, with "rooms" as you would imagine them (with a flat-panel TV in each, allowing you to try to mentally escape the sounds of soft drilling), but with the 4th wall for the door not exactly there. (Hard to describe, but a very neat setup with privacy not an issue at all actually.) The staff - hygienists, receptionists - are all incredibly personable and down-to-earth, never giving the impression that your visit is an inconvenience to their work schedule (which unfortunately happens quite a bit at doctors' offices these days it seems). The actual DMD, Dr. Gonzalez, is as friendly as a doctor/dentist can be. The guy's got a ridiculous bedside manner, and makes you feel like you're just hanging out with a buddy, who happens to have his hand in your mouth. lol He's absolutely forthcoming about everything he's going to do and is doing, and is not pushy, dry, or nonchalant when it comes to identifying what he thinks next steps should be. He's quick yet thorough in his work, and truly appears to care about doing a great job and with the least amount of discomfort to the patient. Fantastic dentist - could not be happier with the choice. So, if you're looking for a good dentist in town, and are either on this side of town mostly, or don't mind the trek from wherever you are, I *highly* recommend this place. I'd give them 6 stars if I could, that's how impressed I am of the overall experience. This place will overcharge you. No transparent pricing. I have been charged 4 times and only once…read moredid I get a receipt - not even a detailed receipt of what I paid for. In 2 months they increased my bill estimate by $20 but didn't give me the printout of the updated plan amount. Also, the dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth stabbed my tongue with an implement so I yelled ouch! She also forgot to floss my bridge. I had to ask her. Billing acts as if you understand math without a calculator and if you ask questions about the plan, they make you feel like you're being cheap or something. Also, Dr. Gooch himself said we will do 2 cleanings, 4 hrs total. "You have a disease we will clean each quadrant an hour each". I didn't get it done right away because I had a slipped disc and when I went, I said I'm in some pain,. I might not be able to lie for 2 hours. This was supposed to be the first of two 2 hour appointments. Well guess what? The dental hygienist finished in 45 minutes. I paid $635 for 45 minutes! That's like $1,000/hr. The cleaning was supposed to take 4 hours total and it took 45 minutes! That means they're committing fraud - They are charging for a service that they did not provide. It is not a coincidence that they have a 3.8 rating here. I'm going to talk to the office manager and demand all itemized receipts, my records. They are literally overcharging me - more than the estimate I was shown.
