Set in the sort of postcard picture-perfect village you thought didn't actually exist (although Llanasa, dating from the 6th century, was in fact a 'Best Kept Village' award winner in 2007) the 'Red Lion' is a converted farmhouse building, which has retained its period charm, and most of the interior fittings including the low wooden beams and the inglenook open fireplace (a great place to sit near, in the winter). Nice range of beers and wines, and the food is excellent either at your table in the front lounge, or you can opt for the designated dining area at the back. The place is always understandably busy (the public bar sounds 'lively' to say the least) but we've never failed to get a table or a meal whenever we've called in on the off-chance. If you want a quiet drink on your own with a newspaper, or a chat with a few friends, and in a genuinely charming and comfortable old pub this is the place. Plenty of parking space available opposite by the school for designated drivers, of course. read more
