But inside it's quite a 'local' place; it's the kind of place that doesn't seem overly friendly with strangers. This behaviour always baffles me with a pub. When I used to manage a wine bar, you welcomed new blood around the bar because you'd get fed up talking to the same old people! No messing around in this place either, as it's well known as the watering hole of all the local police! But nevertheless, the beers good, the views are great, they have a full bar and plenty of comfortable seats. It's the kind of pub you can quite easily relax in and enjoy the crossword of a good book. It's not a party place!

I like the fact that they support the community around the area by buying their Beer and Produce locally whenever possible. Records date an Alehouse here right back to the 13th century and the interior decor reflects how the building has grown through the centuries.Lots of Oak beams and stone floors add buckets of character. You can choose one of the quiet corners for privacy or park up in one of the larger open areas and banter away or, weather permitting, take a table outside. Called in for lunch the other day and the menu, although not extensive, has everything for feeding all tastes from a wake-up morning coffee (open at 11am) to a refreshing pint of ale and home baked pie, or spend an easy evening with a fondue and some warm torn bread washed down with a pint of locally brewed traditional free house Cask Ale. They also have an excellent choice of Wines should you fancy a change. Once you have had your fill then ease down that food and drink by taking a riverside country walk!! The scenery is stunning. The great thing about 'The Boat' is that is a place for all seasons. When the weather is warm you can sit alongside the river and watch folk fishing for Trout, Salmon and Eel and may even catch a glimpse of the Otters who live on the opposite bank. The staff is wonderfully warm and welcoming, with excellent food to back it up. A combination of traditional pub food and higher-end "gastro-pub" fare, you really can't go wrong here. And the portions are impressive-- beware if you're ordering a starter and main. You may not have room for their excellent desserts! Ample seating inside and out-- can't wait for warmer weather to sit outside at the picnic tables alongside the River Dee. The best inside seating is in the original building as opposed to the more modern conservatory (though it depends on your taste). Bookings are not necessary, but if you want a seat by the fire, definitely call ahead!

Let me say right up front that we caught them on a short staffed night. Wait times for food were insanely long. It was 45 minutes before we even saw our appetizers. But once we got the food, I forgave them. It was that good. The Carne platter for the table was a hit. I particularly enjoyed the lamb koftas. Everyone loved their meals. I highly enjoyed the fish and chips. My wife enjoyed the goat cheese pizza. Despite the long wait, the meal wound up being memorable.

It was a shame it wasn't we've never been on Sundays when they do a sunday roast 2 courses for under £9. I've been told the carved roast beef is rather special. Maybe next time perhaps. It's also a rather puddingtastic place serving up some decent sweet offerings. On the menu they have Toffee Apple Pie or Clotted Cream Cheesecake, Chocolate & Vanilla Sundae or Warm Chocolate Brownie, Lemon Meringue Pie or Melting Chocolate Fondant, White Chocolate & Mascarpone Cheesecake and Sticky Toffee Pudding. The drink prices are pretty normal really, rather reasonable and food-wise it actually has an award-winning chef at the helm. The restaurant is kind of separate but it's still perfectly acceptable to grab a few beverages and take them through with you. There's plenty of choice and everyone is well catered for, including vegetarians, plus the desserts are really something else and everything is truly homemade. Lunchtime special offers also come much appreciated.

Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.
