What is more I was made to feel it was my fault when I was doing nothing wrong. Heartbreaking.

So many teachers to choose from, recently I've been taking Jepoy's Beg Hip Hop on Friday nights and they've been so fun! I plan to take others! Each class is $25 unless there's a special guest, and you can book the class online or do a drop in when you're there (They accept Venmo on site!) I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. Parking is pretty easy on Fri nights, but I can't speak for the other days, as it is located in the city. They also have spring performance workshops, which I plan to do in the future! The main studio space WAS HUGE! So much space to dance and I was pleasantly surprised! The class itself was PACKED but I was able to find my way to the front/middle area! I do follow City Dance on Instagram in order to keep myself updated on instructors and classes offered! I can't wait to come back to try other genres. Growing up I was heavily involved in colorguard/winterguard where it was very contemporary/ballet technique focused. Since moving away for college and doing adult things, I forgot about my love for dance. Thank the dance angels I found Alonzo King LINES. I was twiddling my thumbs on class pass and found this spot and signed up for the Contemporary Fusion class with Jenelle. Love love loved it! Jenelle was the sweetest and grooviest instructor and she made all people of all experience feel welcomed. It was such a nice class to ease into dance. They give wonderful instruction, keep an eye on our form and yet still make class fun. Magnolia is the administrative manager and manages registrations, organization and helps keep us organized with our classes a makeups. We had no experience and had no clue how to move our feet even if we tried. We decided to take some beginner group classes with Erin to start out in the hopes it would give us some rhythm. The group classes were great! Erin was such a great teacher. She starts off with the basic steps in the first class and adds more and more each week so people with our experience level can learn the dance. After a few group lessons we signed up for private lessons to choreograph our actual first dance. We took about 8 lessons to really get it down and the day of, we killed it. We could not get anymore compliments on our dance and it was all thanks to Erin. Erin really put in the time to choreograph a dance for us that included a grand entrance, intro and of course a final dip. She made sure understood and were comfortable with the steps and really taught us how to dance together. Ms. Revel is extremely well trained and a former professional dancer, but also realizes that not everyone is going to become a professional dancer. We took a total of 5 dance lessons and we are so happy with the results. Our successful first dance would not have been possible without Genevieve's guidance, patience, and incredible choreography. She started by teaching us the basic fundamental dance steps (ie. rumba, foxtrot, single time swing) and then pieced the steps into a choreographed dance to the song we chose (Harvest Moon by Neil Young). She taught us how to transition from one step to another and provided us with tips on how to be more aligned with each other. This was the first time we've taken dance lessons since we were kids, but Genevieve made us feel comfortable and put us at ease! After every session, she would email us notes so we could review each lesson and practice at home. I highly recommend taking dance lessons with Genevieve, whether it's for your wedding or just for fun! My partner and I really enjoyed our time with Genevieve and are so thankful for her support and guidance. We look forward to further lessons with her in the future! On her first day, she reported to me that the jazz teacher (Isabela) did not allow the students to take bathroom breaks. She was also unnecessarily mean and said to one of the students she didn't care that they were tired. I wrote an e-mail addressing my concerns, and for some odd reason this same teacher was extra rude to my daughter the next day. She made my daughter do extra warm up reps although my daughter said her back was hurting from practice the day prior. At some point during class, she grabbed my daughter's arm very harshly. All the students in that class agreed that this teacher was unfair and unkind. My daughter refused to go back to dance camp and we had 2 days left of paid camp. Management refused to reimburse me and made excuses for this type of abusive/unprofessional behavior for this particular teacher. All other staff members were very nice. I can make a bigger deal about this matter by filing a complaint with the BBB or even take them to civil court. But I've decided to write my first review on Yelp just to forewarn other parents.
