Based on the reviews of John and his company across platforms, I expected to have a very positive experience. I used Red Hammer Contracting over the summer after purchasing my first home. After a nightmare contractor experience to begin, I was confident when I then hired Red Hammer I would be in good hands. While things started off well, they quickly declined and I was left with half finished projects yet I was out the full amount as if everything was fully completed and correct. Towards the end everything was rushed, so things weren't completed to the quality you'd expect for the price and some other items were simply not completed. I was told I would be reached out to when there was additional time to finish items, but never was. This left me having to find someone else to redo and/or complete some of the work which is extremely disappointing and a significant financial strain for a first time home buyer. read more

We lucked up and found one of the BEST contractors on thumbs up! John is very professional, knowledgeable, detail oriented and courteous. We hired his company to install Pergo flooring and they knocked it out the box ! From here on, John is my go to contractor when my husband is getting overwhelmed. Nothing but praise for John and crew. He remodeled our kitchen, gutting it, leveling the floor and walls, installing cabinets, plumbing, electricity, a window, fixed the ceiling, and put laminate in the kitchen and bedrooms. He was pleasant and easy to work with, knowledgable, strong (helpful!), creative, and committed to get everything perfect. We used IKEA cabinets, and John custom-fit them and added some personal touches. We were pleased with our decision to go with John rather than using the IKEA contractors, as our house had a lot of special issues the IKEA contractors would not have dealt with. John did the whole job in 15 days and was extremely considerate-- leaving things in a way we could live with and getting us cooking again as soon as possible. He also responded to emails and texts promptly so we were never left wondering what was going on. He earned every penny of the cost, and tried to keep costs down throughout the project. If only all contractors were like John at Red Hammer Contracting. He is downright the best contractor I've ever worked with. From the first call to the day he finished I knew he was the right choice. He was not only responsive from the start he kept his word and stayed on the estimated price. We had a major month long project (that would have taken most contractors much longer) that included removing wallpaper, painting, hardwood floors, full kitchen remodel and many many odds and ends. Everything was done and was just amazing. Anytime he found issues that were impossible to know beforehand (termite damage) he explained what he found and how to fix it along with very reasonable costs. If you want an honest, hardworking with superb craftsmanship, then you've found your guy. He has great subcontractors as well and he made sure firsthand they stayed on target. My family has used John and his team for two projects and we wouldn't use anyone else. Red Hammer completely finished our large basement and the process and quality of the work was outstanding. John offered suggestions along the way and it made a big difference. Much of the work needed to be done while we were at work and our kids and babysitter were at home and we felt totally comfortable with John in the house too. Hire John! I have several properties that have been renovated, I've worked with many contractors, and John is without a doubt the best. He is organized, meticulous, communicative, and a problem solver. When he runs into an issue (and for any large project, there is always something!), he presents the problem, options to fix it and potential costs. Trust me when I say it is SO hard to find contractors who do this! John helped finish a duplex after I initially hired a GC who left a half finished mess on my hands. It was tedious work to uncover all of the issues the previous GC left, but John tackled it with a positive attitude and got us to the finish line!
