Comics, cards, figurines, Pops, Star Wars collectibles, Star Trek collectibles, Hot Wheels, etc. I would not have believed the huge stocks from the outside. Plus some oversized Star Wars items: R2D2, a Droid, and a diorama of Dogabah. These guys are fans first and retailers second. Had a nice conversation about comics and left them with information on checking out my collection and possible deals. They were friendly and knowledgeable and willing to help. Check them out! Just leave enough time to browse around and maybe find that one item you have been looking for.

I would like to share my LONG overdue thoughts on Infinity Gaming! They are located in the other…read moreside of the pawn shop building. Don't get confused, you have to walk around the other side from the parking lot because like many of the items they have for sale, they are a hidden gem. When we first came to take a look at the store, we accidentally walked into the pawn shop. I can start off by saying that this is the best game store in Hickory, even topping GameStop- ESPECIALLY with prices, but MOST DEFINITELY with the customer service and the sweet folks that own/work here. I have never had a disappointing experience. My 8 year old's birthday was last November, and I promised I'd take him to get a certain video game, but forgot my card at home. The KIND owners just let him keep it as a birthday gift! Granted, it was a really inexpensive game, BUT kindness goes a long way. It doesn't matter the price, it's the thought that counts. In this economy, it's hard to make money and I absolutely hate taking anything from a locally owned store, but they insisted and it warmed my heart! That kindness they showed towards my son got me, as a life long customer, as long as they are open- I will always shop here FIRST; Before checking any other store. They definitely made a little 8 year old VERY happy that day, and his mom too! When it comes to the items that they carry, they DO NOT disappoint. They have super old games and fairly new games FOR EVERY console, as well as consoles themselves, controllers, Funko... Really anything you need for your game room! But the best part is their (what I call) tiny console museum room! They have all kinds of vintage consoles on display in this room. It's a big dream of mine to collect 'em all one day for our game room! Now, we know just where to go to find what we need when we need it! XBOX + Playstation and their dinosaur predecessors, PC games, Gameboy, PSP, Wii, Switch, SNES/NES etc. They have it all, and they are WELL WORTH checking out before you go drop heaps of money at a retail chain. They had a lot of other really neat products too, including Asian food snacks. We made numerous purchases. The staff was super helpful super chill and the music was really good in the store. I saw them interact very gingerly with a young lady. Who had some slight social developmental issues. Class act Store all the way around. I only wish I lived closer... Player's Choice was ahead of its time and I'm not sure the City of High Point's population/economy was big nor "advanced" enough to sustain it. I think a store like Player's Choice was better-suited for bigger cities and metropolitan areas with larger gaming communities that had more disposable income. New and rare video games, consoles, and anime weren't cheap! Gaming can be an expensive hobby. I visited this Player's Choice store in High Point multiple times in the late 90s. My mom used to drive me over 30 minutes just to get to the flagship store in Winston-Salem on Robinhood Road: https://www.yelp.com/biz/game-on-winston-salem. However, around the time this location opened, circa 1998, I was old enough to drive. I'd either come here by myself or bring my friends. As high schoolers, we couldn't afford much here, but it was still fun to visit and browse. This location was only five minutes from our house so needless to say, I was very happy it opened. Player's Choice had game rental plans well before services like GameFly. I got some great deals on used anime OVAs on VHS. Even in the late 90s, I could tell this store was struggling. During my visits, business in the store couldn't compare to the business I saw at the Robinhood location. Across the country, video game shops like this have been closing in droves because the demand for physical media isn't what it used to be. The Robinhood store, which eventually changed its name to Game On, officially closed on January 4, 2020. This used to be the Staples shopping center, but Harbor Freight is now the anchor in Staples' old space. And today, a Boost Mobile store is where Player's Choice used to be. Thanks for the memories, Player's Choice of High Point. Gone, but never forgotten.
