Video Game World has taken the crown as my favorite Retro Video Game shop in the Charlotte area. They have a little bit of everything, and I do mean everything. Also the staff is friendly and super knowledgeable even about obscure and foreign gaming products. I'm mostly a portable gamer, Vita, PSP, 3DS, Lynx and was happy to see they still had some Vita support here, unfortunately nothing that I didn't already have. However I did find a semi rare copy of Ultima Exodus for the NES. Ultima 3: Exodus for us C=64, Apple II and early MSDOS gamers. I also picked up a couple of Fallout Funko POP figures for the desk. I think the highlight of my visit here was seeing a working Vectrex. I wish I could have picked that beauty up, but alas I had to settle for a picture. One day I'll add one to the collection. There was a decent collection of N64 titles along one shelf with some Atari 2600 carts on the bottom row. Also in the case they they had an even better collection of N64 boxed games along with some of the more expensive Zelda's and Pokemon cartridges. Below that on the lower case shelf were some big ticket Sega Genesis titles as well. Their was also a case full of portable systems. Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, PSP and PSP GO, GameBoy SE, DS, etc... All competitively priced and cleaned up and looking great. So again, great place... I didn't even mention the modern stuff. Next time I'm in the Charlotte area this will be the first store that I visit.

This place is awesome. The guys here are honest. Great help and always have new items. Can't go wrong. Lot better than GameStop.

This place is great! Million times better than GameStop. Always helpful. Always have new items coming in and more importantly the guys honest. Come in and give this guy your business. They are genuine.

Cool selection, but doesn't matter if it's all scratched to hell. 3 times we had to return games because of them not working. They clearly don't check games and just buy whatever and smile at you as you buy worthless scratched up junk.

The place is pretty cool, but the prices are outlandish for a lot of the games and the staff was rude

Cheap games from every console right next to an arcade and ice cream store. What more could you ask for.

5 stars for not being GameStop. Nice place, I came here with my friend Brad after binging the last several seasons of Game of Thrones.

Pretty sweet store with lots of retro gaming available here if that's what your looking for. Prices weren't so bad.

They're upfront about all cost as a business should be and will often buy certain games for twice as much as Gamestop if they know it'll sell.

Super nice owner will help to find whatever you're looking for . I really recommend checking out…read morethe shop.

TheToysJustWannaHaveFun at Red Genesis…read more Red is a rad dude. I visited hid sweet little shop in Gastonia, NC this past holiday season, where I met the proprietor, Red. In business for ten months (if I remember details correctly), Red has a great thing going on, and I hope to visit and make some purchases again. The shop is cozy and not overflowing with a disorganized mess of toys, despite the fact he could probably squeeze more product in there. There are several display cases with some of my favorite toy lines, such as Exo-Squad, Masters of the Universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and so much more, with tons of great toys and action figures from the 1980s through today, and likely with some older vintage toys as well. He's got eclectic lines such as Germs (1988). There are packaged figures and loose figures bagged up, GI Joe, Star Wars, Marvel Legends, DC Superheroes, and so much more, to varying degrees of completeness. From what I could tell, prices are reasonable and competitive. Red has got video games and systems too. VHS! There are some good dollar comic books, which I partook in while also finding a fun LEGO insert catalog I missed out on during my "dark ages." There's a little free box where I got my Wizard of Oz-loving friend a great little Tin Man. I wanted to dig out one or two more things, but didn't want to be greedy, but there is some great stuff in there! I also witnessed Red being super awesome with a father and his young kid, finding some Captain America items to make that kid's day! That's some great service from someone who not only loves having this store, but also loves the sense of joy and wonder he can create within the community of collectors and players young and old. Heck, I called on a Tuesday (one of his closed days) and he answered to let me know his hours for the week--customer service can't exceed that quality! If you make it to the Charlotte, NC area, be sure to stop by Red Genesis, and consider dropping some green.
