The one thing that I like about living in Preston is the number of authentic Asian restaurants…read moredotted along High Street. Ever since going to Hong Kong I have had a hankering for proper Chinese food. This isn't the food that you find at the Chinese stall in the food hall, but rather a restaurant owned and run by Chinese, and the worse their English, the more authentic the restaurant tends to be. Okay, it's not Hong Kong, but then again unless you are willing to put aside a week to travel there and back, these restaurants are probably the best that you are going to get. This certainly wasn't a bad restaurant. The staff were ever friendly, and it certainly seems popular, and they also have chop-sticks, which for me is an absolute must when it comes to eating Chinese food. The cool thing about these restaurants is that they have pictures of all the dishes, so you can just flick through the menu and point to the dish you want. However, be careful not to make the mistake that I made and point to the wrong one because you might end up with a meal that you don't particularly like. Oh, I better not forget, they also have pots of Chinese tea for $1.00 each, which is also pretty cool.

The clientele is mainly Preston locals and the destination diners. The menu is exactly the same and I am grateful for this. Over lunch and weeknights this place experiences the same peak hour rush as the city Noodle Kingdom but due to the suburban location of this restaurant theres a slightly more relaxed vibe. Its not unusual to see people waiting five deep in a queue for the freshly prepared dumplings and noodles. I've already detailed my fetish for their dumplings and the no 29 (beef/noodles) however you can add the no 94 (fried chicken/noodles) and beef skewers to the list. The beef skewers are a grilled/spiced cummin delight and great to chew on. Prices are cheap and the service is blunt, this place delivers consistently great food, however a word of warning, go easy on the chilli.

I know, I know, don't judge a book by its cover. I come here pretty often for Yum Cha and I usually enjoy my time here. They offer majority of your traditional dim sums and carts frequently pass by (this can depend on where you're sitting though). This place offers relatively good food, it's nothing extraordinary that you would remember- but its definitely enjoyable and satisfactory. I've been here for dinner too, but I find their Yum Cha to be better. It's not that their dinner is bad, it's just that it quite standard and average. In a suburb where one can find ample Chinese restaurants, average sometimes just isn't good enough. That said, if you have a large group- then this place could easily accommodate you. It has a large dining area with big round dining tables at the back. Overall I would suggest Imperial Kingdom only if it is local to you, I wouldn't go out of way to eat here- but if I'm in the area, I'm more than happy to.

The service was great our waiters helped us accommodate a disability within my family and recommended us some great dishes. However, the restaurant is upstairs and the elevator was broken, which made it difficult for us to get up. The food: -Seafood fried rice: Really flavorful, with generous portions of dried scallop and crab. The rice was cooked just right and the serving was big enough that for a party of 3, we had quite a bit leftover. -Snow pea leaves in garlic: A favorite vegetable of mine, and this was cooked in an amazing garlic-y soup!! Such a clean and delicious dish -Egg tofu: This was my first time having egg tofu and they were so silky and smooth. They look a bit like scallop and are served with a good amount of broccoli and mushrooms! Honestly really addicting. - Steamed trout: This fish was very pricey, but that's normal for a live fish dish. It was huge- definitely enough to serve a party of 5-6. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sauce paired amazingly with the mild trout flavor. Highly recommend if you're feeling like splurging! This place is also nice, quiet, and clean inside during dinnertime. Really amazing experience overall!
